Oral B Professional home care hygiene kit. is what my ortho gave me witch is just an "Oral B professional triumph 800" or whatever and floss, timer (comes with toothbrush) and floss, mouthwash, and more it is awesome. and extra wax I believe
uggghhh:/ima get the ceramic braces tomorrow im just scared for wen they tighten the wire cuz that hurts and noooo @jason3259 u shuldnt get metal even when ur 14 cuz im 13 and it sux people r gunna call u brace face and if u get in a argument with sum one their gunna pik on ur braces and say sumthing like atleast i dnt have train tracks on my teeth lol and plus no guys/girls will like u,sum will but no u shuldnt
@SuperKellykell Metal braces aren't that bad. If people make fun of you its only because they are jealous or have low self esteem. Don't worry so much about that. When they tighten the wire it doesn't hurt all that bad honestly just for a few days. Take some tylenol or ib profen before you go.
I have really painful sores from my hooks. I have the Damon braces and I got them 2 days ago. Oddly, I can see changes already, LOL. But I think it might slow down and then start picking up again. I really need my mouth to toughen up because these sores are unbearable! I can stand the aching pain form these braces, but the sores??? My mouth is a living hell. The hooks actually dig inside my cheeks and impale them, so sometimes, I feel my cheeks being hooked onto them! Aggh! Worth it though! ahha
today i got the ceramic braces with the clarity and you can hardly see them they just kinda look a little bluish or grayish so yup i have the clarity too
@yovelaviv Thats great! I really like the ones I got because the wire can just pop in and you don't need ligs to hold the wire in. I hope you enjoy your experience! I'm getting my off in about week :)
wow....they gave you a lot of stuff....i didn't get nothing(sad)..lol....any way, i live in romania...so:-j... he he. and i am obsessed with brushing too....How look your teeth now?
@ramo15anos Thats ok every orthodontist is different in what they give or don't give. :) My teeth look great now! I am so happy I went ahead and got braces. Everything you go through is worth it.
im getting Clarity on the top front 6 n the rest r going 2 b those metal 1s with rubberbands....i'm kind of scared and excited....mostly nervous tho :(
i was kinda scared too and nervous but its really not as bad as you are imagining. at least it wasnt for me. you get used to it quite fast. and remember if the braces cause any raw spots use wax! it is your friend!!! :)
hey can u tell me wat u bought at 7.40, the great invention for the sore... i had ma braces on now for a week and i was doing ok the first day but the 3 days after all ma teeth were sore and the only thing i took was tylenol.. i didnt knoe abt this glyoxide and the other great invention.. im hoping ma next visit which will be a different one and i will ask ma orthodentist why she did not warn me about the sore and advice me to buy these meds... thanks amelia ur blog is very important
Are you talking about Oragel? It helps temporarily relieve pain when you get raw spots or canker sores. It is wonderful! You can get some at walmart, or any pharmacy store. Just ask a store clerk or pharmacist where to find it. The Glyoxide helps clean sores in the mouth kind of like when you gargle salt water. It speeds up the healing process. Hope this has helped!
I'm not sure he said I have about 6 to 8 months left of braces being on so I'm sure it'll be close to when they are about to come off. They just put in a new bottom wire about a week ago and it's moving along nicely.
It depends on which ones because they usually anchor the braces on with the back teeth. I'm sure they have ways of getting around that your best bet is to call the orthodontist and ask.
I have ceramic braces and it honestly just looks like a retainer. I eat spaghetti and pizza like everyday but they never stain and all I do is make sure to have water so that I can rinse it around while I'm eating. They're the same price as metal and just as effective. If you're at all concerned about looking like a braceface I would definitely HIGHLY recommend ceramic braces.
Yes I agree. I have had no problem with staining with my self ligating ceramic braces. Most often the staining is due to the rubber bands but usually a good brushing soon after will prevent that from happening. If it doesn't just go and get them changed at your orthodontist.
im getting braces september 3rd...umm.....should i get ceramic brace? ceramic braces are heavier and can break easier. but regular braces dont break as easier and there lighter....idk what ones to get!?!?!?!? plz help meee!
ceramic are more comfortable and if you get self ligating they move faster. but they are all about the same it just depends on your personal preference really. I was worried about ceramic braces breaking but I eat chips and hard candies with mine and have had no problem!
I'm getting my braces this Thursday, and I'm getting ceramic. My teeth are kinddaa yellow-ish? Because when I was little I barely brushed my teeth (ew i know) and I was wondering would it be obvious because my teeth are somewhat yellow? :/ I keep thinking that it will look like gunk on my teeth ... :(
It shouldn't, I didn't brush my teeth very well when I was younger either. The ceramic brackets aren't usually bright white and often have a kind of toothy white to them anyways so you should be fine :)
Okay, so I'm actually getting braces on Friday. It's actually not bad at all, my parents just notice the smallest flaw and nag me until they can bolt me into a dentist's chair and shove my mouth full of metal.
I was thinking about getting Invialign, but I'm not sure my dentist does that. My second choice is to get ceramic braces, and I was wondering if they have a wire-color choice. Silver stands out too much for me, and I want no one to notice I'm wearing braces. Do they have tooth color wire?
It sounds like you don't have a big problem with your teeth so thats good.
As far as wire-color choice as far as I know they do not. I know some orthodontist carry white coated metal wires but the white coating either stains or comes off most of the time. I asked my ortho about it and he said he didn't carry them for that exact reason(staining and chipping). Hope that helps!
The ligatures usually don't stain horribly bad unless you eat spaghetti sauce or something like curry. I have the self ligating brackets and they do not stain. If you do get ceramic without the self ligating brackets make sure you brush really good after each meal and use mouth wash. Sometimes you can get a light grey colored ligature that is not as easily stained. Talk to your orthodontist about your concern, maybe they have a solution for it. Hope this helps!
I'm almost 23 and got my ceramic braces put on this monday. I'm having some trouble eating and pretty bad headaches. I'm really happy to see other adults with braces, I was pretty upset when I found out I couldn't get invasalign. Thanks for sharing your experience online it really makes me feel better. I'm worried about my ligatures staining...I didn't know I could get the ceramic one's without.
The headaches and trouble eating will go away after some time. Just try to be patient. For me it was very hard because it was so uncomfortable. Remember, wax is your friend! Sometimes taking 5 minutes to purposely rest your jaw helps a lot too. Sometimes you tighten your jaw and don't even realize it so just a few minutes of relaxing it helps. Thank you for your kinds words! Don't worry too much about your ligatures staining, brushing reall good after every meal and also mouth wash.
If you do end up having any problems with the ligachures staining talk to your orthodontist about it and maybe they will have a solution for fixing it. :)
Yeah typically after they take your impressions you get spacers. BUT you usually only get spacers if there isnt enough space between the teeth they will be the anchors on.
Hi, I might get braces soon. Im only 11 and i want braces to get my teeth straight! Does it hurt to get them on? And have you got them tightend yet bucause thats what im really scared aboutt.. And when did the braces really start to hurt were you couldnt really eat McDonalds Chicken Nuggetss. Thanks plz right backk
Hi Dancer, It doesn't hurt to get your braces on. The spacers are a bit uncomfortable but not painful. I have gotten them tightened. It does make your head hurt and teeth sensitive to eat but it passes in usually a day or two. They started to hurt like the 3rd-5th day. Then it progressivly got better. For the first 2 weeks to a month you are going to go thru a lot of changes and some of them are uncomfortable but its nothing you can't handle. Don't be scared :) Use your wax. It's all worth it!
Thanks soooo much for ur help, i got spacers on last thusdayy and i get braces is 4 dayssss!!!! I'm really excitedd, and im not as scaredd anymoreee....thnxx again for ur helppp<33
The cuts on your cheeks? Yeah they eventually do. For about the first 2 to 4 weeks my mouth was pretty sensitive and I was so sure it would never get any better but it does! It helps to keep any raw spots or cuts clean so they heal faster and use wax! The wax helps with the pain and also allows your skin to heal. :)
And Also I forgot to mention. When your teeth are moving you will experience new raw spots and sometimes cuts(depending on if your wire cuts you). But it is nothing compared to when you are first getting used to the braces. You may be pretty sore at first but don't give up! It does get much much better!!
Well, it depends on what you want out of your orthodontic experience. If you get metal you can have colored ligatures. But if you get ceramic I would suggest getting self ligating brackets so that you don't have to worry about the ligatures staining.
@jason3259 sorry that I am just now responding. At 14 I probably would've went ahead and gotten the metal because its fun to change the colors of your bands. :)
Youre welcome. Before I got my braces on there wasn't much out there for me to get information on about this so I just thought I'd document my experience to help people in the same position.
Spacers do hurt...braces dont hurt in the same way.. atleast for me they didn't. It was more my cheeks and jaw getting used to it. But the good thing about all of this is the pain doesnt last for long!
COOL... ummm... im only 11 yrs. old turning to 12 and im not really sure of what i should get... either invisalign or ceramic... i hate braces!! so i want really really clear braces.. that u can't even see at all at any times.... so r there any clear braces for ceramic?? like a clear metal?
Theres no clear metal that I know of. They can however put a white arch wire so that it is less visable. But if you want total CLEAR then you need to go with invisalign. Invisalign is more expensive then metal or ceramic braces, though. Honestly whatever you do it won't matter much its all about the same in the long run! :)
i got my ceramic braces tightened today!! and im supposed to be having them for 3 more months, but surprisingly she said they would be coming off in 6 weeks exactly!!!!! yayyy, cant wait!! teeth move fast with ceramic!
They really do. I noticed that my teeth move much more efficiently with the ceramic then the metal that on are my bottom teeth. Congrats on your journey! :)
omg gly-OXIDE its like carbon diOXIDE as in oxygen in a compound... or hydrogen OXIDE (water... you know the source of all life along with the SUN.. as in SUN crean).
I heard that Ceramic braces don't work as well.....I have to pick really soon!! I don't know if my dentist is just saying they work the same as metal ones to get my money. Any advise?
The only REAL difference between metal and ceramic is the cosmetic part(ex.metal are easier to see). Ceramic are supposidly easier to chip/break than metal but I eat chips and some hard candies with my ceramic braces and have not chipped them at all. I think you just have to be careful and not get crazy while chewing. If you can choose your braces whether you get ceramic or metal get the self ligating kind because they move faster and are more comfortable. I'd get ceramic if I were you though!
You're welcome. :) I'm going to put up a new one here soon. My ortho said I'm going to have to wear mine for 18-24 months. But I think that is a generic time that they tell everybody. It really depends on how fast your teeth move and the individual person.
i am 19 also and getting the ceramic braces on tomorrow morning. this is my second time with braces but i am glad to see that there are other lovely people out there rocking the metal!
Wow 4 years? I bet you won't know what to do with yourself once they are off. Congratulations! :) I can't wait to see what my teeth will look like with the finished product.
I'm thinking about getting ceramic braces cuz I heard mixed reviews about invisalign :( One question, do you feel like it's hard to talk w/the braces on? I sing, so anything that affects my voice scares me....
At first it's different talking. I never really had a problem with any lisps or anything like that BUT you do have to put a little more effort into talking and singing just because the braces feel weird on your lips. I sing a couple times a week and it doesn't really effect your singing voice at all. What did you hear about invisalign?
PPle were sayin it cost way too much and they don't tell you that they shave part of your back teeth to fit the aligners. Also, some people were having problems w/the fitting of the aligners :/ No thanks, I'll stick to what guarantees to work. Keep up the update vids and let me know how you're doin' with the braces.
im thinking of posting my experience with braces too, but i havent gotten around to it yet. Ive got the type of braces you have, but mine arent cermaic, there metal. My ortho put my top braces on too, my bottom ones are going on next month. ive had them on for 2 mnths now. At first it was embarrasing, being 29 and all, but now im fine with them.
Its great that your making these blogs, i needed this info before i had mine put on.
Thank you! - Yeah I wonder if they are going to put the same brand of metal on the bottom of my teeth. The best thing to do is even if you are embarrassed embrace them because people will notice how you act about them more then the actual braces. Good attitude! :)
Walmart and bought "threader floss". It comes in a small box and the thread is individually packaged and at one end it is really stiff like a needle. It is wonderful!!! I also use a lot of flouride mouthwash so that my teeth will stay healthy. Good news is the sores do go away and your mouth gets used to the bands (anchors) in the back.
For some reason Youtube cut off the first part of my comment. I was trying to say that I used to use the regular floss and threader and after a while it got to be really frustrating. So I went to went to... (see above comment)
The regular floss and threader is pretty frustrating. I think after I use up the threaders that the ortho gave me I'm going to buy some of those threader floss you talk about.
I am getting ceramic but do they allowe you to get them on top and bottom. Some people I know had to get metal on bottom and ceramic on top.I am getting the Clarity SL self-ligating braces......from 3M Unitek.Any feedback?
Those are the same kind I have and I love them! They are more comfortable then the metal and move your teeth much faster. - Most of the time they dont allow you to get ceramic on the bottom because you need something stronger since ceramic are easier to chip. I have a friend who insisted their ortho put ceramic on the bottom and they did even tho they didnt like it. Just talk to your ortho and see what they are willing to do.
How much did the ceramic braces cost with insurance?!

If you can choose your braces whether you get ceramic or metal get the self ligating kind because they move faster and are more comfortable. I'd get ceramic if I were you though!

thanks for the vid...i'm getting braces too (im 19, so nt getting them that early either). how long r u gonna wear yours for?
adwoa237 3 years ago
You're welcome. :) I'm going to put up a new one here soon. My ortho said I'm going to have to wear mine for 18-24 months. But I think that is a generic time that they tell everybody. It really depends on how fast your teeth move and the individual person.

I'm thinking about getting ceramic braces cuz I heard mixed reviews about invisalign :( One question, do you feel like it's hard to talk w/the braces on? I sing, so anything that affects my voice scares me....
lenolivia 3 years ago
At first it's different talking. I never really had a problem with any lisps or anything like that BUT you do have to put a little more effort into talking and singing just because the braces feel weird on your lips. I sing a couple times a week and it doesn't really effect your singing voice at all. What did you hear about invisalign?
crimsonsmile07 3 years ago
PPle were sayin it cost way too much and they don't tell you that they shave part of your back teeth to fit the aligners. Also, some people were having problems w/the fitting of the aligners :/ No thanks, I'll stick to what guarantees to work. Keep up the update vids and let me know how you're doin' with the braces.

When in doubt do without. Thanks, I will be making an update soon. :)

im thinking of posting my experience with braces too, but i havent gotten around to it yet.

Hello, I get my braces put on October 7th.Right before my birthday. Are they really notcieable?
f0rlif3above 3 years ago
It depends on which kind you get. Are you getting ceramic or metal?
crimsonsmile07 3 years ago
I am getting ceramic but do they allowe you to get them on top and bottom. Some people I know had to get metal on bottom and ceramic on top.I am getting the Clarity SL self-ligating braces......from 3M Unitek.Any feedback?
f0rlif3above 3 years ago
Those are the same kind I have and I love them! They are more comfortable then the metal and move your teeth much faster. - Most of the time they dont allow you to get ceramic on the bottom because you need something stronger since ceramic are easier to chip. I have a friend who insisted their ortho put ceramic on the bottom and they did even tho they didnt like it. Just talk to your ortho and see what they are willing to do.
