  • Okay, I'm pretty sure (not 100% though) that The Slap was created for the same type of people who think slapping an unruly child is the equivalent of genocide. Listening to the author talk I'm feeling confident that it's actually reverse cultural imperialism from a PC zombie who can no longer discern empathy from fake self-righteous indignation.

  • What a great honest speaker Chris Tsiolkas is. I found this a fascinating interview, a little lengthy yes, but insightful and straight up.

  • What an embarrassment Tsiolkas is. It's obvious from the sudden jumps in continuity that even this lengthy interview had to be heavily edited to remove the moments when he went blank or just couldn't finish a thought. And no wonder: "The Slap" - foul-mouthed and filthy-minded - has no thought process running through it at all. This is not the real Australia which Tsiolkas is merely passively lamenting: it's the real Tsiolkas - and a very revealing tour of the mental squalor he lives in, at that.

  • @LewisSlotkin Wow, you just come across as being bitter.

  • The selfish comments are true. We're not the worse then other countries but we are getting pretty bad lately. I don't think the characters are people that are that common in Australia. As the interviewer says 'they are despicable'

Also he knows nothing about the younger generation. Its different for my generation (born in 1980's) for many of the issues. True about the racism though.

  • WHAT! Okay before I bitch please note: you need to read this book. It is very thought provoking. Having said that I hated it! I've lived in Sydney all my life and I can tell you I only know one group of people like those in his books and I've been avoiding them like the plague. The rest of us do not need drugs and alcohol to survive. We do not like the snobs in his books or lie and cheat to our partners. I think this man has some serious issues.

  • Give this guy an American accent and change a few words here and there and he could be talking about the US. A lot of what he says about his country I've said about mine. I can totally understand what he's saying.

  • Thank you sooo much for this interview clip!! Love it
