On this date in 1971 {Feb. 13th} "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peak at No. 6 and spent 12 weeks in the Top 100...
Was ranked No. 53 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1971 chart...
It would reached No. 1 on the Canadian Singles chart, No. 6 in France, and No. 9 in Australia...
It would be the 2nd of 3 straight records to make the Top 10; started with "I Think I Love You" {#1}, this one, & finally "I'll Meet You Halfway" {#9}...
Amazing how few of his (David Cassidy) hits are even played on radio stations or on 'Classic' stations. He/they sold millions of records in the 70's yet you hear more from groups that sold 1/2 of what they did, weird
I've always wanted to rip-off this song, completely change the lyrics etc., but this song has a perfect bridge. If Lennon had written this song, your mind would melt waiting for Macca & Harrison hitting the mike on the chorus.
For some reason I always thought that fountain shot with the sunlight at the end was a pretty shot. Looked as if they filmed that in the morning at like 8 am.
Most of the songs that were on The Partridge Family were great. This one I have on LP, CD and 45 RPM. Some of the 45's have picture sleeves. This one and "Together We're Better" were my top PF favorites!
The part where David Cassidy begins talking always scares me slightly and makes me laugh, but I still enjoy the song anyway. The first time I was listening to this song and that part came on, I was startled.
@stripedsockscat That was a fashionable thing in pop songs of the 60s to the early 70s..the Righteous Bros "Your My Soul.." , Elvis "Are You Lonesome Tonight" ..then George Strait did it in "You Look So Good In Love"...most artists claimed this is very uncomfortable to do and it's easy to see why...it treads a fine line between coming off as true emotional involvement vs sounding ridiculous...it requires a certain theatrical skill that most singers don't have..
Even The partridge Family makes Music ... better than today's "music" ... :-(

Oh so many Sunday mornings learning the new Partridge Family (and Osmond) album...waking up my parents!
The one person who dislikes (what's up with that?) must like Brady Bunch better.

David Cassidy did not want to talk in the song and you can detect the resentment when he does ..he was pissed to be force to do it

@Randystmarks it's funny though, I remember laughing as a kid when I heard that bit :D

@Randystmarks I never heard that story before. He does sound mad now that you mention it. Like he's about to kill someone or something.
