we witnessed big boss's beginnings but not solid snake's.......kojima should remake the first two original games into 1 with an expanded story. since we all know big boss was the bad guy here, the original should be a 1 or 2 hour prologue like the virtuous mission in snake eater and the rest would be a remake of this.
XD That note that goes off every time the Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake logo finishes animating on the main menu always startles the shit out of me. Yet another reason why this game is so awesome, methinks. :3 It always gets your attention, this series.
@filipeflower03 Oh...I didnt get to where it showed it colored I just watched some of it...But It kind of looks like metal gear because It has the laser and the satelite....and the railgun but it looks like it shoots rpgs now that I look at it...
"Zanzibar Land forms a military government... ...and starts invading nearby countries. It also raids [Nuclear Arms for Disposal] storage sites around the world... ...and becomes the world's only nuclear power."
Ohhhh wait until Metal Gear Solid comes out and you'll see just how untrue that last statement really is (HINT: Zanzibar Land was NOT the sole nuclear power even back then. In fact, by 1998 or 2003, there was still 20,000 nukes in the world.)
After playing Peace Walker, I can only imagine the dramatic and terrorist-like "kidnapping" of Kio Marv actually just Big Boss using the Fulton recovery system on him and hearing him go "Whoo-hooo-hoooo!" :P
So Solid Snake is the main caracter back even in this game? and Gray fox is there to? how many of the Caracters from the Metal Gear Solid series is here? Metal Gear Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Solid: Portable ops Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the patriots Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Metal Gear Solid: Rising COOL!!!
You do know that this "army" in zanzibar land is the one that naked snake or big boss made in portable ops. when solid snake kills big boss zero recovers his body and puts him in a sort of a comma by some nanomachines. In the ending of mgs4 big boss says that solid snake defeats him twice, so im just saying that this game along with mg1 had an important part in the story of mgs.
@BLUErobotman Actually I rarely hear about MG1, the only thing you hear about it is "Outer Heaven" But your right, we need a remake of the first 2 metal gears
We should petition to Kojima to remake Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake in full 3D, a soundtrack by Harry Gregson Williams, full voice-acting from the likes of David Hayter, Richard Doyle, etc. Who cares if it would be a two-disc game, it'd be epic. Then the title can be something like "Metal Gear Solid: Origins". This of course, with no unneccessary retcons. Just updated.
I really hope this is the big PS3 exclusive Kojima is planning to reveal at TGS 2010.. that'd make my damn MONTH!
They need to remake this game baaaaaaadly. . .I think it could be the best in the series. . .Solid Snake vs. Big Boss. . .fighting Gray Fox bare handed in a minefield. I mean, the way MGS4 ended, it kinda opens the door for that epic fight once more.
apparently, kojima said that snakes saga ends at mgs4. and he will make the sagas of raiden and liquds sagas, because liquid was a solider in the army in the 90s so a game might be made about that
MSX 2 computer was 8 Bits. But by far the best 8 Bits computer/console available. Several games have graphics on the level of 16 bit machines (but it wasnt capable of moving as many sprites, parallax scroll, such smooth scroll as Genesis, SNES or Amiga)

what happend to the good days when kojima made games because he loved them nt for money the onli reason rising is comin is for money mgs pw is gna b graet bu imagine it on ps3 please kojima !!!!!
Konami is getting well known for thier Rebirth series...So either they could make a Metal Gear Rebirth that takes place between 2 and Solid and use just a slightly graphically update engine, or just as well a complete MGS4 engine update on Metal Gear 1 and 2 he he...That would be too awesome. I imagaine if Hideo and his boys redid the first two it would be mind numbingly awesome beyond belief.
@SnakeHiggins I think Kojima will just take a break after Rising, because he's done alot for the Metal Gear series. Personally, i would love to see a remake of MG1 and 2, plus a mission plot between MG2 and Solid. I think it should be done somewhat like Acid, but excluding the card battle nonsense. Also, if the plot between 2 and Solid is considered, there should be a non-Metal Gear boss with the Metal Gear capabilities
@SnakeHiggins Personally, I think we are going to see a concept where Solid Snake is young and training at the age of 17 (as in the manual) which leads into Metal Gear 1.
Then Kojima will remake MG1 and 2 perhaps, it's so overdue now as long as he can resist getting a hard-on over over 60 min cutscenes.
Next game from the team is ZOE3 though so you'll have to wait a while. Not sure if it's being announced at E3 or not though yet.
IDK about MGS2 but they did remake MGS1. Look for "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes". It's MGS1 with MGS2's graphics and controls. Looks much better TBH.
@TheEndlessWarlock don't say that pal, Twin Snakes is a GOD AWFUL remake of MGS1.
sure it had the MGS2 engine and updated graphics but it didn't have the original cast of voice actors, and the cut scenes are really retarded, but most of all... the soundtrack is fucking terrible compared to the original masterpiece.
its the one MGS game that everyone wants to ferget about.
@TheEndlessWarlock to each his own l guess, l just think its an insult to the original game. Especially those over-the-top cut scenes, they take away the atmosphere.
@1shoryuken It did have the same voice actors. Reportedly, Hayter himself gave away half his pay check for that to happen. Only difference is the Ninja/Gray Fox: the actor who played him also played the Darpa Chief and didn't want to do both roles again.
@SnakeHiggins Or Konami could stop forcing Hideo to stop milking the shit out of Metal Gear. They own the right to the series. He's publically said he wanted to stop after 2 but, they said they'd go on without him. So he stayed. Metal Gear is dry the man can make other gamers. He's got plenty more movies he can still ideas from. Since ever single game he's made has been based of a movie and re tweaked.
I just beat this game last weekend.... wow. I never thought anything would top MGS for me. Solid Snake is truly the best game in the franchise and I hope Kojima makes a proper Metal Gear 3. I think if they got Yoji Shinkawa to hand-draw the characters and generate a superb story and they'll have an instant hit. There's so much material to work with between MG2 and MGS... I would even be willing to retcon Metal Gear Solid for a true sequel- never thought I'd say that. Make it happen Hideo!
P.S. "The Theme of Solid Snake" would obviously be mandatory in a sequel. The fact that Snake has a theme song like that (and MG2 in general) reaffirmed that he is my favorite character- even over Big Boss! AGGHHHH I love this game!
Did The First one Tie in to any story line at all (other than the whole Outer Heaven thing) i know there is some difference between MG for NES and MSX :( this seems to be the missing peices of the MSG Storyline...
and was MSX anything special in the US, i heard about it once some time ago but not like your Commodores and Apples
The first one had a lot of plot holes because the developers probably had no idea there would be sequels. Overall though MG1 lays the foundation for the future metal gear games. It's the first time you meet Gray Fox, and helps clarify (along with MG2) why *spoiler* snake pulled his gun out on him at the end of MGS4. Without the originals one could not possibly understand what a tough, crazy bastard Big Boss really is.
I thought Fox and Snake knew eachother before Operation Intrude N313. But yea, also explains how Snake knew Big Boss was his father, and how he'd kill him. If you played the first MGS without knowing the other two existed, it'll make more sense if you played the two. Atleast it made more for me. So uhh, yea, for the remakes is just like ya set.
@LPdreamcaster9 old comment and this has nothing to do with anything... but similarly to not knowing about a sequel, it's why they called the games final fantasy that because they thought each would be the last one... after 13 i think they should fucking stop calling it that... but then again i hate it too... im sorry, you don't even know who the fuck i am, but i had to let that one out of me.
Well, actually you can argue that in Metal Gear Solid that whole thing about Zanzibar Land being the only nation with nuclear weapons when Snake is talking with Baker and he mentions something to the effect that he thought the threat of nuclear war was gone with the turn of the millienium but Baker corrects him and says nuclear war is still a threat. So you can argue that the point was never brought up in latter games.
You can see a detailed summary of both Metal Gear 1 and 2 on Metal Gear Solid 1 in the Demo Theather mode on the Previous Missions option. It's a very nice read.
I agree, MGS4 was continuing MGS2's storyline so it was bound to be "out there". MGS had a storyline grounded in reality for the most part as well imo.
Depends, Liquids plans in MGS1 were simple and therefore looked sensical but actually it was very far fetched. Solidus' plan was a little weird yet it was very possible, nuking the atmoshpere to create an EMP is a very realistic scenario. Also Liquids plans in MGS4 are very sensical considering the universe and setting of MGS2/4.
And I honestly couldn't care less for realism in MGS, it's a fictive universe even if some parts could be possible in ours.
True, it's only a video game, but having some realism draws the player into the world better imo. I think that's what attracted me to the MG series; sneaking, real-world setting etc.
Halo sucks compared to Metal Gear! Oh wait, shh there's a Metal Gear in my yard *outside "God dammit don't pee on my yard, Get out of here just go!" Metal Gear runs off*
I have this on MGS 3: Subsistance... and it's pretty good, but HARD.
My word out to Hideo Kojima: "Thank You for re-releasing Metal Gear and MG2: Solid Snake on the games' 2nd disk, thanks for giving us the opportunity to finally play these."
so i've got myself an emulator called the bluemsx and I figured out how to start the game. The only problem was that it was in japanese. So, is there anyone who's able to give me a link to a translated version of the games?
good i wish they would remake the 1st 2 games like they did with MGS i think that would be awesome..but actually make em better instead of kinda jacking up like the GC version of MGS
@bwgary snake eater has my fav gameplay i thought there wasnt enough sneaking in mgs4 while msg3 was about surviving the next hour and was more fun you could catch animals and you had to fix your wounds yourself just felt more indepth then number 4 which i found to be more streamlined for the xbox generation
@twinturboteen18 I'm playing MGS: Peacewalker right now for the PSP. It is by far the hardest MG game I've ever played. There game engine is similar to that of MGS4, but the PSP's controls aren't suited for it.

It's the first time you meet Gray Fox, and helps clarify (along with MG2) why *spoiler* snake pulled his gun out on him at the end of MGS4. Without the originals one could not possibly understand what a tough, crazy bastard Big Boss really is.

@LPdreamcaster9
GeekyHan714 1 year ago
@LPdreamcaster9 old comment and this has nothing to do with anything... but similarly to not knowing about a sequel, it's why they called the games final fantasy that because they thought each would be the last one... after 13 i think they should fucking stop calling it that... but then again i hate it too... im sorry, you don't even know who the fuck i am, but i had to let that one out of me.

Is nt that video so speedly. I think 1 part with weapons in metal gear must be slowly.
nabulcar2613 2 years ago
Well, actually you can argue that in Metal Gear Solid that whole thing about Zanzibar Land being the only nation with nuclear weapons when Snake is talking with Baker and he mentions something to the effect that he thought the threat of nuclear war was gone with the turn of the millienium but Baker corrects him and says nuclear war is still a threat. So you can argue that the point was never brought up in latter games.

To the guy that posted the vid:
You can see a detailed summary of both Metal Gear 1 and 2 on Metal Gear Solid 1 in the Demo Theather mode on the Previous Missions option. It's a very nice read.

I love "Zanzibar Breeze", the track that plays during the 2nd intro.

The best metal gear game if we only talk from the story.

why does snake look scared in the codec messages?
xxEvilOrgasmxx 2 years ago
A lot of MGS fans say that Metal Gear 2 is better than MGS4 story-wise. I don't get it.
ClickForOutkast 2 years ago
MG:SN had a very believable scenario imo, more so than MGS4:GOTP.
ReverseFunk 2 years ago
Well, everything became surreal with MGS2.
Of course MG had a more believable scenario, becauase it wasn't that full of fiction and 'japanese' storytelling.
Or are you talking about something else?
ClickForOutkast 2 years ago
I agree, MGS4 was continuing MGS2's storyline so it was bound to be "out there". MGS had a storyline grounded in reality for the most part as well imo.
ReverseFunk 2 years ago
Depends, Liquids plans in MGS1 were simple and therefore looked sensical but actually it was very far fetched. Solidus' plan was a little weird yet it was very possible, nuking the atmoshpere to create an EMP is a very realistic scenario. Also Liquids plans in MGS4 are very sensical considering the universe and setting of MGS2/4.
And I honestly couldn't care less for realism in MGS, it's a fictive universe even if some parts could be possible in ours.
ClickForOutkast 2 years ago
True, it's only a video game, but having some realism draws the player into the world better imo. I think that's what attracted me to the MG series; sneaking, real-world setting etc.
ReverseFunk 2 years ago
Well, MGS has real-world setting too, it's just futuristic and sometimes a little crazy. (Psycho Mantis, Vamp, Cobra Unit etc.).

You mean the one where there's a prisoner behind the wall? That's a tapping code.
Use frequency "140.82", three digits before Roy Campbell's frequency of 140.85.

RandomReviewer272 2 years ago
lol now all he needs to do is remake those 2 for the 360 or ps3 or w.e, make it just as fun as all the rest ;D
crust207 2 years ago
I'd like to see a 3-D remake of these games - it would be awesome, just to see what it would be like. :D
iainmacdonaldTV 2 years ago
me too dude, maybe someday, who knows
DTNenforcer 2 years ago
Well, it won't ever be Kojima-approved.
He's against remakes...
So, a fan project perhaps.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes.
Look it up.
Anyway, the theme is awesome!

He had nothing to do with Twin Snakes, only that he gave permission.

good i wish they would remake the 1st 2 games like they did with MGS i think that would be awesome..but actually make em better instead of kinda jacking up like the GC version of MGS
crust207 2 years ago
This is one of the best intros out of the whole series. I think MGS3: Snake Eater is the absolute best though.
bwgary 2 years ago 6
@bwgary snake eater has my fav gameplay i thought there wasnt enough sneaking in mgs4 while msg3 was about surviving the next hour and was more fun you could catch animals and you had to fix your wounds yourself just felt more indepth then number 4 which i found to be more streamlined for the xbox generation
twinturboteen18 1 year ago
@twinturboteen18 I'm playing MGS: Peacewalker right now for the PSP. It is by far the hardest MG game I've ever played. There game engine is similar to that of MGS4, but the PSP's controls aren't suited for it.
bwgary 1 year ago
was the music originally at this speed? i think its a little slower in the PS2 version
Ronsky89 2 years ago
the version year heard probably is 12.5% slower (50/60hz difference) a strange side effect from old computers.
