this version is definitely better than the album version. that beat haunting beat and beths beautiful voice a match made in heaven. you can hear the hip hop in this song
The filming is well done, and I realize it is a performance by a large number of people, but it would be great to have more shots of the singer. She is so expressive and magnetic, vocally and visually. I'm wowed.
Man, they're awesome.. She sounds the same as on the old cds I had of them. Which is awesome since so mayn pop acts so like crap when they sing live vs the studio

@Ktmzqw lmao at your understanding of "Thrid" being 'too much.' That album had no flow, just mechanical beats, which, when done right, can be very good. Unfortunately for Portishead, mechanical music isn't their forte. The splash from the turd coming out of my anus and hitting the water makes a more interesting abstract sound than Portishead's "Third." That's fine, though... you keep on thinking your small brain is deep for liking it. Ciao, fag
Ive had this DVD for close to 10 years and love it as much now as I did back then. I love it when a group plays a live show and the music is many times better live than on the album. Plus its a little more gritty in the delivery. It was an excellent performance and I bet the crowd can still remember it to this day as one of the best shows theyve seen.
It's a really cool genre. Even though Portishead, Massive Attack and Tricky are all quite different, there is a very pleasant quality in all of there music.
agreed. portishead is a very powerful band. you need powerful speakers to play them or you'll break your cheap ones trying. esp considering this recording was done with an entire orchestra.. you need to put more money in to your sound system buddy.
@PoeticallyIlliterate: excuse me??? my sound system is fine, as i recall i said this sounds great, and being on youtube, your not going to get primo quality sound cause its streaming, but i own this live performance on cd, as well as the studio album.
ok, i can see where you agree with me, but what do you mean when you say "you need to put more money in to your sound system buddy." seems as if your implying that my premium quality monitors and my speaker set up (which im not going to get into detail with) isnt good enough, but you really have no clue what kind of money i have put into my sound system or if its really that great...
oh wait, you must be talking about chuck... yeah, he does need to put more money into his sound system... lol.. i apologize for the confusion/mixup. lol... how embarrassing.
agreed.... quite possibly the only live album i enjoy better than the studio album. its a great performance for sure, half day closing was AMAZING on this cd (PNYC).
Massive Attack seems to be the median between all of the original trip-hoppers. I know Tricky was once a member of Massive Attack, and they still collaborate occasionally, but from what I have read, it seems like Portishead and Tricky have no direct connection.
True!! and agree with ya, Tricky have some background from portishead alredy, Massive attack made sth with them too! But with Bjork and Miss Tori Amos, would be sth amaizing!!
yo man, the only other place ive heard that sample on was mushroom jazz 3 by mark farina on a song called "collage" by urban backcountry. lemme know if thats it
Is it possible a live band can sound like 320 kbps mp3 song out from a cd ? She must take a reward for her voice capabilities or else we are missing something in this pop crap we got into!
I've always wondered on such occasions what does the orchestra's members feel about the music who isn't the usual classics they used to play... do they enjoy? do they like it? or are they above it.
Above this? No way! I am a classical violinist, and I would kill, maim and pillage to have an opportunity to be part of something like this. On the other hand, for this particular concert, the notes themselves are not difficult for an advanced player. But that does not mean it isn't challenging.
let them, you sound like someone who chooses his music just on the fact if it's not pop or special. if those people get the same feeling from that as you get from this, its their choice, some people just dont feel the need to go deep into music
It's sick to see them live...alot of instruments and all playing so simple but it works so well together...i think simplicity is a good key to music their super good at what their doing and it works!
