Conrad Veidt was one of the truly great actors, known today primarily for two pictures - Alexander Korda's "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940) and of course Michael Curtiz's "Casablanca" (1942).
On top of of his accomplished acting (often portraying despicable characters, the antithesis of his true self), he was also a great supporter of his adopted country, the U.K., in their war effort. Tragically, he died far too young at age fifty.
@stphnward Look for the DVD version from the UK. It was released last year and it contains some extra-scenes. And the quality of the picture and sound is terrific.
