Can someone give me the chapter and verse number where it says not to use foul language? Also I am a Christian, I jus don't see where it says profanity is a sin. Sure it says do not swear, but if you read the rest of the verse, it clearly means do not make promises or oaths. Also when I think of it, we use substitutes for that foul language, but wouldn't they mean the same thing? For instance, thee word "ass" in modern times is referred to a curse times, but go back years ago and it having a bad meaning wouldnt have been heard of. Can someone give me the chapter and verse number where it says not to use foul language? Also I am a Christian, I jus don't see where it says profanity is a sin. Sure it says do not swear, but if you read the rest of the verse, it clearly means do not make promises or oaths. Also when I think of it, we use substitutes for that foul language, but wouldn't they mean the same thing? I'm not trying to come up with excuses to sin, I would just like to learn where it says no profanity. Praise Him!

Luke 6:45: "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” If your heart is overflowing with evil, your mouth will overflow from evilness in the form of cursing and swearing. I hope this verse has made it clear enough

@nojosmith it's not in the bible, it says to keep your words sweet, not to hate. If you sweat at someone, even replacing the words, in anger it's a sin, but it's totally accepted, when replace with a less "harsh" word. That's wrong, I believe it's ok to emphasize your sentences or conjugate, using "profanity" as long as theres no malice, hate, or degrading.

We are supposed to be, as 1 Peter 2:5 says, "a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." Cursing is unholy language. You do wrong with the knowledge that you're doing wrong, and you do it anyway. Read the Bible and see the holiness of God displayed. God's character tells you that cursing is unholy language and unacceptable to a holy God, so whether or not the Bible says "don't curse" in so many words, God's character says DON'T CURSE! it's UNHOLY!

@realmusic74 Who determines what "foul" language is? The Bible sure doesn't, so who's to say what unholy language is? Last time I checked if I said "she has a fat ass" in church, I'd be looked down upon, but if I was reading the Bible where it has the word 'ass' in it, it's okay. So my point is, is it the word that's foul, or is the intent of the word foul? You see, any word can be foul, as long as the intent behind it is foul. I think cursing in the Bible is different than today's "cursing".
