I know its easy to say this now..but I always thought Roy Jones Jr. was one of the more overrated boxers of our time. He never beat anyone worthy of mentioning besides Hopkins before his prime. His greatest accomplishment was beating John Ruiz for the WBA Heavyweight Title....John Ruiz! Jim Lampley summed it up best, if the object of the game is to win as many fights as you can win, make as much money as you can, and take the least amount of risk as possible, then he is the greatest of all time
THIS WAS THE LAST great performance ofroys career...this was the best roy loked since returning frm hw..now he is sad getting ko by loser russians in 10 round fights.i dont know why he ishurting his legacy..he must be broke cuz why is he still fighhting bums and losing..not to mention he is breeding pitulls and selling them for 15oo...he is hurting
@sixfouimpala yeah he deserve that ass whopping, this is history cause is very hard that an ex Heavyweight champion beat an ex welterweight champion very very hard roy is the best. Now I wanna see Wladimir Klitschko vs Manny Pacquiao :D
yeah it really was...may favorite fighter of all time....he made the most mundane shit look exciting....and the best reflexes to ever step into the ring
@Beatbyawhiteboy It sure was such a shame hes still fighting especially after another K.O to LEBEDEV yet he just cant seem to let it go....fighting on 10 december at cruiserweight which he looks in bad shape at...1 of my favourite fighters ever...
Why are you getting butt-hurt? Jones would of embarrassed Felix even if they fought in their primes lmao. Danny Green? The bum who got KTFO against Antonio Tarver?
@Chunklake Hardly butt hurt at all. Just all teh show boating when your opponent is more shot than you is just unnecessary. Heck he did it against Omar Sheika.
Would he have done the same against a prime Trinidad, most likely, but inthis fight, he's just trying to delude his fans and more importantly, himself. Hell, he's still deluding himself
Oh while I care not for Danny Green, at least he wasn't KTFO in the first round unlike someone...
You just contradicted yourself. You talked about a prime Trinidad against Roy Jones, and then you talk about Green vs Roy Jones (even though Jones was far beyond his prime). I do agree though, Roy can be over the top sometimes with his flamboyance. It's boxing though, and this is a way of him entertaining the fans.

i do amateurboxing , and in my opinion there are no 'bums ' . bums are bums because the topathletes [ freaks of nature ] make em look like bums . any so called bum will still knock your local pub empty without getting hit .
Jones undulated like a stripper in the ring, making a complete fool out of himself. It's hard to believe such a child-like mind could occupy the body of a grown man. But nobody ever accused Jones of being a rocket scientist.

@commonsensrules i like your username. that quote you quoted is funny. if it were true i would agree. roy jones is my favorite fighter, but even trying to discuss who is the greatest of all time is dumb. they're wayyy too many variables. as for his opposition, no one can fight A grade fighters their whole career. there is going to be "bums" looking for a paycheck and tough journey men. every single boxer in history has fought "bums". that is fact.
," no one can fight A grade fighters their whole career. there is going to be "bums" looking for a paycheck and tough journey men. every single boxer in history has fought "bums". that is fact."
You are spot on here. Look, Roy Jones had unbelievable talent and i'm not syaing he couldn't have been one of the greats. What i'm saying is he missed(for whatever reason)his oppourtunity.
In his prime, Jones beats everyone he lost to and alot of quality names to boot.
@commonsensrules When Jones moved back to light heavyweight to face Tarver, he shed all muscle. Hopkins is ancient in ring years. What people need to understand is each fighter has their specific prime. Prime isn't decided by age. It's decided by how well you have taken care of your body and your mental toughness. Hopkins never smoked or drank alcohol or any drugs. That's why he is able to fight still.
@universe112 Exactly. Joe Louis had a "bum of the month" club for years and people still say he's one of the best of all time. All fighters have had to deal with that, especially early on in their careers.

Roy Jones Jr. (USA) was robbed of Olympic gold in SEOUL on 10/2/88. FRANKie FredeRICKs (NAM) won 1992 Olympic men’s 100m silver medal in track, his 10.02 time mirroring his 10/2 b’day (1967). FRANKie JAY ALLiSON: in the “No Mas” ep. of “Without A Trace”, his name in opening credits after Jack Malone (Anthony LaPaglia) evokes a famous boxing stunt with: “...biting somebody’s ear off”. Roy Jones Jr. is native to eSCAMbia Co., FL, while boxer Evander Holyfield is from bordering eSCAMbia Co., AL
@universe112 There have been allegations that he over-taped his hands. In one of his fights, I can't recall which, his hand-wraps were challenged before the bout began and he was forced to re-tape them. Like Margarito, others wondered if he did that sort of thing in all his bouts. So the allegation has sorta' stuck and it's been around ever since.
Crea fama y héchate a dormir.
This fight was fought at super middle weight if I remember rightly. It wouldn't surprise me if Trinidad would still have been too small one division lower though.
Felix Trinidad still has a more respectable career. Has been in much more meaningful fights. Jones might have alot of wins, no real value to that. Roy Jones was a great all around athlete in his prime tho.
@ocasio81 Bullshit!!! Felix has a more respectable career in YOUR eyes only!! Just say...I like Felix better than Roy and your comment will be respected more!!
@brotherhood302 And Roy has a better career in your eyes? How many undefeated champions has he beat? How many gold medalists has he beat? Im not going to talk negative about Roy because I am a fan. However, resumes dont come close to being compared.
No matter in what time frame they had faced each other Jones would still beat Trinidad EVERY TIME. If they faced each other in the early thousands 2000-2003 Trinidad would have gotten Knocked out by Jones much sooner. Trinidad was too big for Welter and too small for Middleweight. At least against guys like Jones and Hopkins. No matter what year Jones would kill Trinidad.
the only reason jones is still fighting is because he is in serious debt to the irs and he's only fighting to pay it off. He actually has a fight coming up against danny santiago.
Why is everyone acting as if jones was all that against Trinidad ??The problem wit this fight was not that jones was better is just the fact that trinidad was way beyond his fighting weight wich was 147-54 not 175. jones literaly walked right through the smaller man punches.
@DRCsyntax yea man but still,he got older but u can see his punches are very fast, sometimes reminds me of jones at old times and his reflexes aint bad man
Anybody else notice Arthur Mercante Jr's prefight instructions "Good Evening Felix, Tito"??? Roy should have said "Yo! What about me? Ya'll musta forgot!"
@cartagenaucme - Unlike your example, I will continue to speak respectfully to you. You are in error, because Margarito was caught with Paris Plaster. Second error is that you don't seem to understand that a tape over gauze wrap technique makes a concrete plaster cast. Either way you slice it, my boxing icon cheated and then got waxed my the very men I feared he would try to face (Hopkins & Roy). Nice talking the sweet science with you.
Can someone expalin to me why Roy Jones was still fighting at this point. Both these fighters are washed up. it must be the fame because i hope its not because they need the money. if that is the case thats a shame.
fixed fight. trinidad just wantd a paycheck and don king knows how to make a fight. he laughed all the way to the bank. both guys were done by this point. shit like this ruins boxing
This is a bullshit fight that should have happened 5 years before this. At this point Jones was roided up and came off the HW title win againt Ruiz then the two matches against Tarver. Trinidad came out of retirement after being exposed by Hopkins. Both were past their prime here although Jones would have KO's him quicker when they were in their prime
@cartagenaucme In an interview with Bernard Fernandez of Philly.com, Hopkins said, "If you put on tape, then gauze, then tape, then gauze, it's like a [plaster] cast. It's like being hit with a baseball bat. I'm giving out some secrets here, but you can dip your hands in ice water and that tape will, like, marinate and become harder. But it's only cheating if you get caught." --- DO YOUR RESEARCH KID
@honorablecbm So tito got caught with the same thing as margarito? he was putting tape over the knuckles/ he didn't have a cast on his hand dick! TAPE AND GAUSE IS NOT PLASTER DICKHEAD!! DO UR RESEARCH!!
Nice talking the sweet science with you.
this is a bullshit fight tito was clearly smaller than roy. roy is one cocky bitch. it was great when roy got his ass handed to him by tarver. that bitch was twitching on the canvas and shit, looked like he was doing the funky chicken.
@chukenotothebone Every boxer is cocky, what you think they go in fights against the worlds best boxers and say "well ima try my hardest but if i dont win i tried my best!"...
@justentime77 I totally agree, but Tito(who was also one of the best) was no way near his prime either and was way out of his natural weight division. To me this fight was beyond pointless, but money talks
@AlexiusMoore I think Tito was a great fighter, but not one of the best in my opinion. He shined against guy's like Mayorga and Compas, but struggled with more difficult contention. True, at the time Roy and Bernard were a bit bigger and stronger opponents, but Oscar clearly had the fight well in hand (Overall Punches landed, Hard Shots, Jabs) and chose to coast the last few rounds. I hated the fact that he did that and was glad that they punished him on the cards. Roy in his prime was the best!
@justentime77 he shined against mayorga??? wtf are you talking about . and de la hoya lost the fight. trinidad wanted a rematch but de la hoya didnt. so shut the fuck up bum!
@rotatech Well, he knocked Mayorga out in the eighth round dumb ass and look at the punch stat's when Oscar fought Tito! Oscar had that fight in the bag and tried to coast in the last three rounds for a unanimous decision. Learn boxing for half a second moron.
@justentime77 lol yeah oscar won the fight thats why they gave it to trinidad. cant change the results can you ?? lol fuking dumbass i box and if possible watch the fight all over again
@Khaos969 lol yeah okay, because he has beat so many great fighters. Jones best wins were against a very green young Hopkins and an outta shape James Toney. Roy was very great, but more like top 30 then G.O.A.T.
@JMDinamitaMarquez Toney was out of shape? and Hopkins was young? is that how you downplay Jones wins...first of all Hopkins is 5 years older then Jones dummy, and Toney was in great shape it was the biggest fight of his career he was undefeated and didnt win a round.. Jones is undoubtably the most natural talented boxer off all time..middleweight to heavyweight champ.. name me any boxer Light heavyweight or below that would beat a prime Roy Jones..
@Khaos969 Hahaha what poor arguments. Roy Jones in my view is p4p king. I wasn't impressed with this fight, simply because Tito had been out of the ring for so long. Roy Jones in his prime was unbeatable. His only loss of the 90's was a DQ against Montell Griffin, but later avenged it in a 1st round KO. He went 4 years where no fighter could go the distance. The man was brilliant, talented, super super fast, power in both hands. He is the definition of p4p King.
@universe112 man you gotta do some research your boy ducked alot of prime fighters he fought styles that made his style look better once he got a fighter who wanted to fight as an inn fighter which is how you beat an out fighter,he got rocked so hard he quit!
@justentime77 you right roy jones should've retire he's career is a done deal he got knocked out by 3 white boys...felix trinidad did the right thing,,,now it's time to give the new generation a chance,,,mayweather and pacman is whats popping right now,,,once they retire boxing is dead,,,MMA and UFC is taking over
Trinidad is like a deer in the headlights when he's being out boxed. OVERRATED

@racecar504 I've never been a fan of Trinidad. Inform me on his cheating.
universe112 5 months ago
@universe112 There have been allegations that he over-taped his hands. In one of his fights, I can't recall which, his hand-wraps were challenged before the bout began and he was forced to re-tape them. Like Margarito, others wondered if he did that sort of thing in all his bouts. So the allegation has sorta' stuck and it's been around ever since.

Crea fama y héchate a dormir.

This fight was fought at super middle weight if I remember rightly. It wouldn't surprise me if Trinidad would still have been too small one division lower though.
DwiteTheSpriteKnight 5 months ago
Felix Trinidad still has a more respectable career. Has been in much more meaningful fights. Jones might have alot of wins, no real value to that. Roy Jones was a great all around athlete in his prime tho.
ocasio81 5 months ago
@ocasio81 Bullshit!!! Felix has a more respectable career in YOUR eyes only!! Just say...I like Felix better than Roy and your comment will be respected more!!
brotherhood302 5 months ago
@brotherhood302 And Roy has a better career in your eyes? How many undefeated champions has he beat? How many gold medalists has he beat? Im not going to talk negative about Roy because I am a fan. However, resumes dont come close to being compared.
ocasio81 5 months ago
No matter in what time frame they had faced each other Jones would still beat Trinidad EVERY TIME. If they faced each other in the early thousands 2000-2003 Trinidad would have gotten Knocked out by Jones much sooner. Trinidad was too big for Welter and too small for Middleweight. At least against guys like Jones and Hopkins. No matter what year Jones would kill Trinidad.

bad fight for trinidad roy jones is too strong for him.. bad comeback
wesbonn 5 months ago
the only reason jones is still fighting is because he is in serious debt to the irs and he's only fighting to pay it off. He actually has a fight coming up against danny santiago.
Steelerfan44 5 months ago
Why is everyone acting as if jones was all that against Trinidad ??The problem wit this fight was not that jones was better is just the fact that trinidad was way beyond his fighting weight wich was 147-54 not 175. jones literaly walked right through the smaller man punches.
2r3notgoodas1 5 months ago
Joke of a fight that should have happened 5 years earlier.

Both these fighters are washed up. it must be the fame because i hope its not because they need the money. if that is the case thats a shame.

trinidad looked fat and slow for this fight he wasent the trinidada that ko'd vargas thats his best fight in my opinion..

fixed fight. trinidad just wantd a paycheck and don king knows how to make a fight. he laughed all the way to the bank. both guys were done by this point. shit like this ruins boxing
eamon0008 6 months ago
This is a bullshit fight that should have happened 5 years before this. At this point Jones was roided up and came off the HW title win againt Ruiz then the two matches against Tarver. Trinidad came out of retirement after being exposed by Hopkins. Both were past their prime here although Jones would have KO's him quicker when they were in their prime

Anyone recall when Hopkins cornerman found illegal wraps on Tito (plaster) before the fight? I loved watching Tito until that discovered...
honorablecbm 7 months ago
@honorablecbm plaster was never discovered dick do ur research!!
cartagenaucme 6 months ago
@cartagenaucme In an interview with Bernard Fernandez of Philly.com, Hopkins said, "If you put on tape, then gauze, then tape, then gauze, it's like a [plaster] cast. It's like being hit with a baseball bat. I'm giving out some secrets here, but you can dip your hands in ice water and that tape will, like, marinate and become harder. But it's only cheating if you get caught." --- DO YOUR RESEARCH KID
honorablecbm 6 months ago
@honorablecbm So tito got caught with the same thing as margarito? he was putting tape over the knuckles/ he didn't have a cast on his hand dick! TAPE AND GAUSE IS NOT PLASTER DICKHEAD!! DO UR RESEARCH!!

Jones in his prime (and this fight wasn't during his prime) was one of THE best to ever lace em' up!
justentime77 8 months ago
@justentime77 I totally agree, but Tito(who was also one of the best) was no way near his prime either and was way out of his natural weight division. To me this fight was beyond pointless, but money talks
AlexiusMoore 8 months ago
@AlexiusMoore I think Tito was a great fighter, but not one of the best in my opinion. He shined against guy's like Mayorga and Compas, but struggled with more difficult contention. True, at the time Roy and Bernard were a bit bigger and stronger opponents, but Oscar clearly had the fight well in hand (Overall Punches landed, Hard Shots, Jabs) and chose to coast the last few rounds. I hated the fact that he did that and was glad that they punished him on the cards. Roy in his prime was the best!
justentime77 8 months ago
@justentime77 he shined against mayorga??? wtf are you talking about . and de la hoya lost the fight. trinidad wanted a rematch but de la hoya didnt. so shut the fuck up bum!
rotatech 8 months ago
@rotatech Well, he knocked Mayorga out in the eighth round dumb ass and look at the punch stat's when Oscar fought Tito! Oscar had that fight in the bag and tried to coast in the last three rounds for a unanimous decision. Learn boxing for half a second moron.
justentime77 8 months ago
@justentime77 lol yeah oscar won the fight thats why they gave it to trinidad. cant change the results can you ?? lol fuking dumbass i box and if possible watch the fight all over again

@justentime77 No.. jones should of retired after he beat JOHN RUIZ
preoxwhygen2007 4 months ago
@preoxwhygen2007 True, I thought this fight was earlier in his career then it was. After Ruiz it was a steady fall from grace.....
justentime77 4 months ago
@preoxwhygen2007 thats what I always thought... he wouldve been called the greatest of all time ..
Khaos969 4 months ago
@Khaos969 lol yeah okay, because he has beat so many great fighters. Jones best wins were against a very green young Hopkins and an outta shape James Toney. Roy was very great, but more like top 30 then G.O.A.T.
JMDinamitaMarquez 4 months ago
@JMDinamitaMarquez Toney was out of shape? and Hopkins was young? is that how you downplay Jones wins...first of all Hopkins is 5 years older then Jones dummy, and Toney was in great shape it was the biggest fight of his career he was undefeated and didnt win a round.. Jones is undoubtably the most natural talented boxer off all time..middleweight to heavyweight champ.. name me any boxer Light heavyweight or below that would beat a prime Roy Jones..
Khaos969 4 months ago
@Khaos969 Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, SRR, I can all day with this if you'd like?
JMDinamitaMarquez 4 months ago
@Khaos969 Hahaha what poor arguments. Roy Jones in my view is p4p king. I wasn't impressed with this fight, simply because Tito had been out of the ring for so long. Roy Jones in his prime was unbeatable. His only loss of the 90's was a DQ against Montell Griffin, but later avenged it in a 1st round KO. He went 4 years where no fighter could go the distance. The man was brilliant, talented, super super fast, power in both hands. He is the definition of p4p King.
universe112 4 months ago
@universe112 man you gotta do some research your boy ducked alot of prime fighters he fought styles that made his style look better once he got a fighter who wanted to fight as an inn fighter which is how you beat an out fighter,he got rocked so hard he quit!
dru713281 4 months ago
@justentime77 you right roy jones should've retire he's career is a done deal he got knocked out by 3 white boys...felix trinidad did the right thing,,,now it's time to give the new generation a chance,,,mayweather and pacman is whats popping right now,,,once they retire boxing is dead,,,MMA and UFC is taking over
