  • what's interesting is that in QTtA the snitch used to be a snidget, a little golden bird. But it was changed to a flying ball because the snidgets could die.

    /nerd

  • i so want a fez

  • Over 200 Quidtich clubs....Oh for fucks sake, what a sad life people lead.

  • I nearly didn't notice Alan in this episode, Lee took the spotlight of stupidity ;D

  • pushes the pigeon's head down while pulling a fake head out and throws it back into his other hand while releasing the head of the real pigeon. it's obvious the second time you watch this

  • my god his laugh is absolutely horrible...

  • Harry concentrated in Binns' class!

  • Daniel's laugh is so awkward it made me look away..

    "Ahe! Ahe! Ahehhhheh!"

  • @monokulm

At least it sounds more natural than Stephen's laugh at 32:48 -32:51 . I mean, I love that laugh because of how bizarre it is, but I'll be damned if I know how someone can laugh naturally like that.

  • Its a bloody marshmallow

  • Stephen Fry has said it saddens him that one of his QI guests insisted on knowing the questions in advance. Does anyone know who? I'm wondering if it's Daniel Radcliffe. He knew "too much" about the earliest trick.

  • @irondogon Fry said that it was one of the regular guests and Radcliffe has only been on it the once so it couldn't have been.

  • @irondogon

I'm pretty sure that it's John Sessions that demands to know the questions in advance. Radcliff likely had a tutor on set that made lessons relevant to his work.

  • @lesterclaypool1

I always thought it was Clive Anderson.

  • @JimmySteller

I thought that it was, too, when I read the original comment by Stephen but conversation threads related to the show, and a few of the comments in them come from seemingly reliable sources, strongly suggest Sessions. I'd rather it were Clive Anderson, just for the simple fact that I can't stomach the man, but I just haven't found the evidence that points to him that I have for John Sessions.

  • @lesterclaypool1

NickFromFulham was convinced that it was Jimmy Carr, considering how he seems to get hecklers to feed him jokes during his stand up.

  • @Lamporre

I'll try to find the follow up twitter feeds that basically point to Sessions, without libeling Fry, and post them here when I get the time.

I still wish that it had been Clive Anderson. I just can't stand the man lol.

  • @lesterclaypool1

I honestly don't mind Clive Anderson that much. He's informative, and he provides an interesting balance to any episode he's in. He takes the game more seriously as opposed to the others more focus on being funny. Sure he can be stuffy sometimes, but he's less brash and opinionated than, say, Jeremy Clarkson.

  • Catching the snitch gives the team 150 points and ends the game and the team that catch the snitch usually win

  • i fucking hate lee mack !

  • and they say he slept through History of Magic ;-)

  • @klstehn I love you for this.

  • Omg. daniel radcliffe.

  • I got my last advent calendar at 13

  • Daniel's saying that catching the snitch is an automatic win because that's how it works in the films. In the books, however, the snitch grants you 150 points, and ends the game. The film said automatic win, because it nearly always was, but if you were losing by 160 points or more, the snitch won't do you muchh good.

  • anyone else want to pull out your gun and shoot the screen hillbilly style when radcliffe first appeared?

  • i thought catching the snitch was 150 points, not automated win?

  • @smudzi you are right also catching the snitch ends the game.it isnt the automatic win, i have seen this episode a million times and its the first time i caught this error.

  • the snitch doesn't grant you an instant win it is worth a 150 points. ask me anything on harry potter i wil know, i am reading the order of the pheonix for the 31st time :))

  • @liddiLOL

    What was Dumbledore's favorite color?

  • @ChainX It was never mentioned in the books or the films. I know his favourite jam was raspberry

  • @slightlyinsaneFTW

You know, if you're going to gloat over how much useless information you've memorized, you would think you would have MORE information than just that which is available to absolutely anyone who has ever read the books or seen the movies. Pretty lame, dude.

  • @ChainX I wasn't gloating

  • @slightlyinsaneFTW

    Yes. Yes you were.

  • @liddiLOL Only the 31st? ...Actually, I've got no clue how many times I've read it. I'm a quick reader (e.g. OotP takes me 2 hours), so I kinda lose count. But I know pretty much everything about HP as well :D

  • @slightlyinsaneFTW i think we would get along well xx

  • @liddiLOL Maybe. Which of my comments were you replying to there?

  • @slightlyinsaneFTW and im 11 years old

  • @liddiLOL ... i laughed my ass off

  • that ending was amazing

  • Awwww, poor Daniel sounded so nervous when he gave his first answer about the first magic trick... makes me want to give him a hug at tell him everything will be OK.

  • I WANT TO KNOW HOW HE DID AN OX?!?!??! the goose and duck were all well and good but he said he did an Ox too? HOW? lol

  • finally someone put a stop to the harry potter movies once and for all.

  • Haha... Was Graham's "Oh I see!" on purpose??

    x

  • Guyball

  • @RazorBeams hate to be picky but it's actually 150 points for catching the snitch, not 300

  • @RazorBeams: which means that unless the other team has a 31 goal lead, the team that catches the snitch wins. So for all but a very few edge cases, the team that gets it wins. (And if the other team did have a 31 goal lead, why would you catch the snitch? I'd just follow it until my team had caught up a couple goals, *then* catch it.)

  • Omg hes wearing a fez, omg hes wearing a fez (if you dont know what im talking about long at charlieissocoollike and look at the big bang 2)

  • You don't win automatically when you catch the Snitch. The game just ends and you get 300 points.

  • i know people who call non harry potter fans muggle, thanks to qi thats going to take on a whole other meaning

  • harry

  • love alan davis

was laughing so hard when they were messing around as kids

  • could not stop laughing,

    Ceiling!!!

  • Harry always was the smartest of the golden trio

  • Loving a bit of DanRad.

  • I'd really like to know how they did those tricks.

  • @treediaphragm especially the decapitation of a bull??? I'd love to see that!

  • i love that daniel puts his xmas cracker hat on :D lol

  • daniel needs to make more apperances hes awesome lol

  • Lee's opening joke was hilarious and was unappreciated!

  • OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have watched this episode 3 time couse of him XD

  • I love how they were completely baffled at how Radcliffe answered that first question perfectly at the beginning. xD He's apparently quite bright. : )

  • J.K. Rowling called Dumbledore that because she knew the origins of the word and could imagine him humming to himself a lot, like a bee.

  • @animals4eva Aha. Aha. Aha. Stop looking for meaningless thumbs up by insulting people just because they're famous and then justifying it with a bad joke. It's worse than trolling.

  • 18:45 Stephen would know that word after voicing Pocoyo wouldn't he

  • Wow that "i before e" thing went on for way too long, it was hilarious how stupid they all are......

  • Lee Mack is one of the funniest guys ever. What a legend.

  • For one of the world's most popular and successful actors (and apparently some kind of extremely well-educated memory expert) Daniel Radcliffe is so nervous to be on TV!

  • I really don't like Lee Mack (particularly on this show) but he's awfully good a getting Fry riled up.

    Successful troll is successful.

  • I don't like Lee on this show, because every other guest, including alan, is funny but also is quite interesting

they all have something interesting they know or can tell. Lee dosent, his aggressive humour just...isnt right for this show

  • @MANofINACTION

The entire english language is a loan from the past with a modification.

  • Harry Potter does not know the rules of Quidditch... my my.

  • @MANofINACTION lighten up a bit. its comedy.

  • Stephen Fry in a fez. Fezzes are cool.

  • People from the north were ruthlessly killed! >:-[

    >.>

    < :- 0

  • ... He killed Daniel Radcliff! That's wonderful!

  • Comment removed

  • "it'll be on youtube before you can speak..'' LOL guess Fry was right :)

  • oh god what a funny group!!!!

  • stephen fry is wearing a fez.

    fez's are cool.

  • One person didn't get picked for their Quidditch team

  • It's funny Alan doesn't know more of these just from having done Jonathan Creek.

  • Thx for uploading all these. I don't know whether they'll ever be available on DVD/Blu-ray/other. I haven't been able to find any beyond the 3rd series.

  • Now do it with an ox!

  • Just saying... at 18:00, Well, catching the snitch only gets you 250 points, so if you are behind by more than that, you'll still loose. Doesn't Daniel remember the Quidditch World Cup Finals?!!?

  • @nrg800 No. in the world cup they won by catching the snitch even though they were behind in points. It's what Fred and George bet and they won against i forgot who.

  • @killerjoe2525 i remember hearing that in quidditch catching the snitch ended the game and awarding the team 150 points so they could still lose

  • @nrg800 150 points.

  • Seriously, someone explain to me how those tricks at the end worked?!

  • On that bombshell is Jeremy Clarkson's sign off! Plagiarism!

  • The truth is that small kids probably will find this very disturbing.

  • love lee and alan turning into unattentive little school boys, and stephen's cunning plan to get their attention again

  • Daniel was stuttering and babbling like a hogwarts first year for a bit there. I guess headmaster fry just has that effect on people

  • @9clawtiger

Actually I thought Radcliffe made a great guest on QI. He should come back a few more times.

  • @JimmySteller I agree he did well. It looked like he was shaking with nerves at the beginnng, too. Bless.

  • @JimmySteller well he would come back if he hadnt been killed by graham norton at ther end lol

  • @JimmySteller He kinda looks and moves like he is on cocaine xD

  • @PrivateAckbar lmao .. can I ask why you seem to have a small dislike of Daniel Radcliffe :L

  • FUCK YOU RADCLIFFE!

  • it's one thing that daniel doesn't seem to know the fact that the snitch gives 150 points, not automatic win, but stephen reads the audio books! he should know too! other than that, great show! :D love stephen's "are you incapable of rational thought!?" xD

  • @Appletosser Although, from what I recall, not having read the series in 4-5 years, isn't it rare that the Snitch catcher doesn't win, even in pro Quidditch?

  • @eddievhfan1984 very true. the team catching the snitch would have to be under by more than 15 goals to loose and to build up a lead like that the winning team would have to be extremely good and the loosing team quite bad. however in the goblet of fire Krum catches the snitch, but the Irish team wins.

  • not being funny but he did say that in the films you win the match when the seeker catches the snitch it's different in the films to the books. I LOVE the ceiling joke :L

  • Lee Mack needs to shut up, like now. He iritates me.

  • All these big (bigoted, more like) men are making Dan feel such a schoolboy. Well, alright, he is a kid, but that's no reason for being so patronizing. Not cool (except Stephen, of course).

  • @jcgalad I think that's welcome to these sort of shows the regular way. I thought they were being rude too, and I was surprised at Stephen for steamrolling Dan like that especially early in the show. But what can you expect from Lee Mack? And Allan was kinda quiet today...

Anyway, Dan had the advantage of a lot of special guest stars on QI, having some of the questions tailored specifically to them, so they'll have a chance to talk with everyone else stumped.

  • @jcgalad They are?

  • Fezs are cool :D

  • Wrong Daniel! Catching the snitch ends the game but gives 150 points, so you don't necessarily win.

  • @Bumblybee256 have you read the book or was that made but, The snich gives you 150 points and ends the game.

  • @dim432 Yes, I've read it. See the quidditch world cup for example- Krum catches the snitch but bulgaria still lose because ireland were too far ahead. Ah, I'm such a nerd.

  • okay, am i the only one that wants to see dan on nevermind the buzzcocks? i think it would be pretty funny.

  • I really wish I knew what Alan was writing from 28:10 - 28:27

  • Wow! Stephens outfit... cool! I like it!

  • 'knock knock'

    'Who's there?'

    'To...'

    'To who?'

    'To whom surely'

AHAHA I bet Stephen did write it

  • I get how he did the birds - train a bird to trust you, tuck its' head back and pull in a bit of stretchy stuff that you had hidden in your hand, but how it would work with an ox???

  • @verticalsmurf yeah me too. i don't get that? how could you hide the oxes head?

  • Daniel Ratcliff seems so nervous..

  • awww if only he'd pick up Radcliffe's head XD

  • So...they kill off Harry Potter, and then wishes us a merry christmas? That´s nice, I guess...

  • Radcliffe...that was...unexpected...

  • Hah, Dan actually got the Quidditch rules wrong. Catching the snitch gives you 150 points, not an automatic victory. It's just that the other team is rarely more than 150 points in the lead!

  • @Yzzyc I noticed the same! There is a game in the books where that happens (or was there even few?) but I guess it's not in the films.

  • How did they do that thing with Daniel's head? That baffles me...

  • @spongeyruler It's not just Daniels head falling, it's his whole body, we just can't see it. The trick is that when the blade falls, it releases a spring or something that is holding up the platform Daniel is laying on. So when the blade drops, simultaneously Daniel drops too to the floor level. It also possible that the blade does actually telescope too so it actually never "goes through" the neck. (I hope you get what I mean, I'm not native English speaker and really don't know magic words.)

  • Why does England get all the good shows, and good comedians, and sexy actors?

  • @spongeyruler not england britain england is one country in the uk and alot of the guests are from scotland and wales and the republic of ireland too

  • @spongeyruler As an apology for their shit politicians.

  • @spongeyruler -cough cough- Alan Rickman, you mean? :-)

  • @Ruffian123Forever Don't even get me started on him! But yes, he's definitely one of the top! XD

  • Yeah, Stepheb is rather sexy ain't he?

  • Yeah, Stephen is rather sexy ain't he?

  • @spongeyruler

I was with you till sexy actors

  • Bless, Daniel seems somewhat nervous/excited, which doesn't surprise me, I know I would be in the presence of such experienced comedy folk. It's quite endearing.

  • I'm sure it's been pointed out before, but the snitch only gives the equivalent of (I think) 15 of the other ball's goals. in the series, a team caught the snitch, but lost the match.

  • Alan's Boogie Nights gag had me in hysterics.

  • Ethanol + Methanol = 0 doesn't it?

  • @lennic95 no actually they're both distillates of the alcohol production process, and are in fact both kinds of alcohol, it's just that methanol is far more poisonous in the human system then ethanol. (ethanol is actually poisonous, but only just enough to get us looped. thank god for that)

  • @EirosNevermore Oh OK. I just saw that on House: a guy drank some copier fluid (which I think is printer ink) and House gave him some whisky and said something like "the methanol in the copier fluid will combine with the ethanol and you'll just pee it out". (I have very good memory, sorry for the freaky autistic moment :D )

  • @lennic95 hahah, no it's cool. I love that show, though i didn't see that episode...

but to be honest it kind of sounds like t.v. medicine quackery, you know?

but whatever, it's an interesting idea, and lets be honest, i could be wrong. though i'm sure the internet could clear this up for us.

(also glad that at least somewhere on the internet isn't chock full of giant squids of anger, hahah. dftba!)

  • @EirosNevermore Very likely, but I would have thought that on a TV show they'd try to avoid feeding nonsense like that. I mean I've learn't loads of things from House and I'm wondering if my head is filled with bull! haha

I'll ask my Dad, he's a scientist and stuff so he might know :D

  • @lennic95 good luck with the dad thing =)

i'm sure they generally try to get things right, but for that one, can you just imagine some guy on the production team going "oh yeah, no this is how it works", and everyone just going with it cause it sounds stupid enough to be true? or at least just one of those snarky things house would say, hahah.

as far as i know, the most important thing i've ever learned from house is that IT'S NEVER LUPUS! bahahah

  • @EirosNevermore Haha! And there's always a problem with the white count!

If you look up denatured alcohol it says that it just makes it more poisonous (it's what my dad sent me).

Hey, I believed it, why wouldn't americans? lol

  • Lol the joke is done so badly you can see he knot in the elastic band and everything! XD

  • CEILING!!!

  • I don't watch a lot of British TV (I'm Canadian) so I had never seen Graham Norton before, and the only time I'd heard him referenced is when Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have mocked him on their XFM radio show, but I quite liked him here

  • Somebody's been paying attention in History of Magic.

  • Why did they even bring up "horse ball" when it's just the french version of Pato, which has been played for centuries. Why not just mention Pato? That would be like bringing up Canadian football as an example of gridiron football instead of mentioning American football :/

  • I before E except for when it's not.

  • Daniel, what are you talking about? Tsk tsk tsk.. If you catch the Snitch you automatically get 150 points, but that does not guarantee a victory.. That's what happened in the World Cup - Krum caught the Snitch, but Ireland still had more points and won the match.

  • graham norton always stumbles on the answers without realizing. remember graham number? and now, sailors!

  • Thank you soooo very much for the upload!!! I love QI and Stephen Fry!!

  • Oh no, Daniel was wrong, catching the Snitch, doesn't make that team automatically win, it stops the game and gives the catchers team 150 points. Which under certain conditions wouldn't help the team win (if they were 160 points under.

  • @ATyger It's pretty obvious why Radcliffe doesn't know all that much about Quidditch. Unlike the nerds who know these things, he is busy having a life.

  • @EliCross Lol, clearly because going to college, supporting a wife and children means that I can't possibly take note about something I read about. It's not my fault that he can't take more pride in what he spend almost a decade in doing. Don't get me wrong I could care less if he got it right or wrong, but some people (not you of course), might want to know the actual rules, instead of listening incorrectly to someone who should rightfully know them.

  • Best Christmas gift ever!

  • thank you for the upload :p)

  • I got the tinselitus joke in my Christmas cracker, two days after watching this.

  • Dan Radcliffe always surprises me. He's funny (great on Extras!) and seems like he's pretty intelligent too. Loved the Stephen/Lee bits. Thanks ever so much for the upload!

    Question: What's an advent calendar?
