Yo dude..what course is this.....loving the feedback man......experienced myself but you know what.....always good to improve and learn.......like to do this course methinks..:-)
@Wolfie99 Thanks! This is the Deep & Soulful Pro Producer course in Logic. If you want to find out more, the link to the course is in the description above.
at what db should my mixdown end upp being? i have heard that it should be at -6db but that makes my tracks volume end upp very low even after mastering, what is the right volume in the mixdown if you want the track as loud as possible?
My first official single just released (produced in Logic), "Don't Disguise What's Inside" you can hear it for free on my youtube page, a download link will be posted on the sidebar as soon as it's uploaded on iTunes & Amazon in the next 24 hours.. If you're not interested in buying even feedback would be helpful.. thanks :)!
Don't get me wrong, it is a great track. But doesn't Nick remove WAY to many lows? He removed frequencies on certain instruments which almost always require some lows. Can you please explain me why this is good for the tracks energy? Other than that, great example of how to analyse a mix.
@dsmaster92 You really want to be cutting as many low frequencies out as possible as it is an area of the mix that quickly becomes 'muddy'. In general it is the kick and bass that provides much of a track's punch and energy... too many low frequencies competing with them will prevent them from cutting through the mix properly.
@dsmaster92 I agree with this somewhat. I've found that cutting to much effects the sound too much. I don't run a school or anything, but I've found that if you cut right before the point of sound destruction, then shelf the rest makes it all sit in better. More like piecing together a puzzle. For example, on a mid range synth you may cut at 100Hz to keep the sound character, then low self the rest and reduce around 3 to 6dB at 250Hz, that way you don't ruin character, but reduce the mud.
@OfficialWillEP Yeah, this is the best way to do it indeed. But back in the days I used to remove way too many lows, always resulting in very sharp sounding tracks, almost hurting the ears. And since that day I'm very careful with removing too many low frequencies. I always use the multimeter in logic and the analyser in the Channel EQ to check the lows of all the instruments. And if certain frequencies collide, I solve that with good panning, and wide mixing.
amazing quality heard when the P.B.O. guy tweaked it, will obviously like to know stuff to do and always keep in mind to produce great sounding tracks. and of course nice piece of music, loved it.
amazing quality heard when the P.B.O. guy tweaked it, will obviously like to know stuff to do and always keep in mind to produce great sounding tracks.
Its a really nice track, well produced but you were right about the kick and the bass, the second bassline you used sounded much better and didnt clash as much, did you change the sound or did you bump it up an octave, the reason i ask is because this is a problem i am having with one of my tracks at the moment, no matter what i do the kick and the bass are clashing, also what kick sample is that, sounds a bit like a 909 but doesnt sound quite so harsh
@tarik3488 I would suggest doing some research into sample packs. Check out some production forums and magazines and see if there is a pack that suits your needs. Otherwise have a go a sampling some sounds yourself, chopping them out of your favourite house tracks.
@tarik3488 I think they have one for minimal and tech house too, but I'm not 100% sure... But you can use the samples in any of those for any genre. I use the house samples from dubstep for example
@vekygt glad you like the track so much. This track is owned by one of the students from our courses. As of yet, there is nowhere to buy or download this track but please continue to check out our tutorials and maybe you'll be making better tracks than this one soon:)
Hey Mr.Pointblank! I was pleased by the songs that your students have produced! would you be kind enough to watch my latest upload and give me a quick review!? Thanks! have an awesometacular day!
Can anyone instruct me on how to make the deep stab sound used in this song? I see that it is the ES2 and know the auto-filter is involved, but if someone can help me with the settings or the original patch used, that would be really helpful! I've been trying to get that sound for a while but I think I'm just not approaching it correctly.
We cover NYC bus compression in the Deep/Soulful course and also the Mixing Dance Music course. You can find full course details through the link in the info section (top right).
Any plans about a Cubase course like this? It would be great also for PC users... I think a lite (and cheaper) version of this course, made of tutorial videos like this (maybe explaining more in depth the mixing techniques), could be a good starting point for producers using different platforms and it would be very appreciated too. There's no Windows support for these Logic versions, and this prevents a lot of people from joining the course... (me included). Anyway, great stuff!!!
We do online cubase courses too. Have a look at the course brochure on our website and you'll find them.
It goes into more depth on topics like mixing and uses this same unique system of feedback where you get weekly personalised video analysing your projects from a pro producer.
@pointblankonline Yeah, but since I make electronic music, I'd like something like Mixing Dance Music, a more focused 4 weeks course... no plans for that?
Unfortunately at the moment there are no immediate plans for a Mixing Dance Music Course in Cubase however if we see sufficient demand it is certainly something we will consider.
Thanks for the feedback. We keep a note of comments such as these to inform future course development.
@LukeysBB Hi mate, if you go to the pointblank online Cubase forum they are looking for people interested in a cubase version of this course. ........FYI i am not affiliated with them i would be keen to do such a course myself...cheers
Nick is definately releasing his music now. We are not sure whether this track is out or not though. The best way to find out would be to contact him through his myspace.
I'm from Chicago, Birthplace of house. Man this track is very nice. Lemme get a 320 of this and I'll get it in the mix and get ya name out. We producers gotta help each other out. Good job mate!!!
