what....the...fuck...was....that? that was the weirdest and creepiest thing ive ever seen. no offence but you totaly ruined that song. and i dont get why you were crying the whole time..ya that was just very disturbing and i wish i hadnt watch it.
@NaamaJimi There's nothing to get. Speaking the lyrics in a soft voice and playing almost unrelated footage with bad acting hardly adds to the song. Too many Tori fans trying to explain how she turned this sick, twisted song into a masterpiece.
I get what she was trying at, but she failed. This video and her singing/talking sucks. Lame
@NaamaJimi what's not to get? eminem kills his wife and him and his super young daughter get rid of the body. some chick sang it and played up the creepy factor even more than he did
"there's a place called Heaven and a place called Hell. There's a place called Prison and a place called Jail. And daddah is probably on his way to all of them except one...."
@SayThose3WordsForMe Of course it's ''cringy'', don't you know the lyrics of this song? He's envisioning his wife's death, going with his daughter to dispose the body! If you don't think that's disturbing, then you must think nothing is.
@bookcreator Yes I know the lyrics to the song! By cringy I meant its embarrassing to watch. I dont find this disturbing because its just a song.. An excellent song, but the point is that it didnt happen so whats so disturbing? I mean I know where you're coming from but that's the way I think.. Also I think up things that are so much more disturbing than this.. Sooo..
@T0MMM0 DUDE really? she should kill herself over THAT? really? Take a Valium or something. The beauty of great muscians like Tori Amos and Eminem is that they can take the same song and essentially have it represent two entirely different genres. Please attempt some diversity in your life - or at least your musical tastes. Really!
When i was about six years old, my mom was driving me too the beach, she had just gotten the cd that this is on, and played this song. i cried. i was so terrifyed of this song. im just looking it up now, and im still terrifyed...
This is the only scenario where I would actually understand Eminem's characters actions from "97 Bonnie and Clyde". Amos seems like a real pain in the ass.
This is such an amazing video. THANK YOU, Ms. Amos, for turning Eminem's misogynistic tripe and turning it into something both beautiful and useful (i.e. as a critique of chauvinistic music).
@MidnightNeverCome how is this a critique of chauvinist music? I agree that this video turned the song into something else, but I was going to say "crap."
@jerrygarfield012 It shows that the original song is actually quite horrific, despite its intentionally comedic tone. By portraying Eminem's work as what it is - gleeful misogyny - Amos has created something far better than anything any "gangsta rapper" has ever done. How on Earth is it "crap"?
All this is is her trying to leach off Eminem's artistic genius and failing miserably. She even admitted she thought the song was brilliant. Too bad her imbecilic fans are so utterly clueless.
@EmceeNolan Explain Eminem's artistic genius. Arbitrary assertions don't make you intelligent or convincing.
She never said the song was good, only that she felt empathy for the character of the man, while believing that the woman needed a voice, too.
Calling her fans (including me) stupid doesn't make you right. Grow up.
Finally, you obviously don't know what a cover is. Different voice, different melody, etc., but same words. Get over yourself and stop being so rude without provocation.
@MidnightNeverCome Yes, it's a "cover"...so how the hell is she making any sort of "point?" You're inventing things that aren't there.
As for Eminem's artistic genius; this is the sequel to Kim, even though he released them in reverse-chronological order. The songs fit together seamlessly...the significance to the ending of 97 Bonnie and Clyde revealed in "Kim." Both songs feature vivid narration...to the point where "Kim" has inspired several youtube user-created videos.
@EmceeNolan Couple that with Eminem's frequent incorporation of multi-syllabic rhyming and black comedy and you have brilliant artistry. He makes it seem effortless.
@MidnightNeverCome Um, how so, idiot? By repeating word-for-word what Eminem said? She did absolutely nothing with it, other than say it in her annoying voice over a different instrumental.
Revisited the song after listening to Sinead's sinister take on Ode to Billie Joe this and it holds up after 9 years. Fabulous. Thanks for making this.
The video wasnt really that great but her Audio was Excellent, and I really liked how it seemed like she was talking about herself in the third person.. Bravo! Clever Girl

I replied to your comment earlier this week but I'm not sure you got because I don't see it here. For one I like the fact that we have differences in opinon and I'm not offended in anyway. Now Mr. or Ms. pablocatwalk you don't do homework win your just throwing out an idea. Secondly if she feels that pepole are dancing with blood on her sneakers she should have simply spoke out and gave her opinion are contacted eminiem thru their mutual lawyer and told him so. This was for album buzz period.
@SpaceMagician I think you missed the point. It is creepy to write a song fantasizing about killing your wife and kidnapping your daughter. I mean, I dont necessarily mind, there's catharsis to be found in that, but dont tell me it aint creepy. Really, in the end, I almost consider this the real version of the song... or at least the more honest one. The version that strips it naked, and shows it for what it is. I may not agree with Amos politics for recording it, but I admire it none the less.
@RomeoCo I feel that to be a one-hundred percent misconception. In my opinion, you think that because you don't like the original song. (That's what I'm hearing.) The subject matter is creepy, but you could say that about anything when it's said as creepily as she said it. Even if she sang a lullaby, it'd be super creepy, hell creepier. It's honestly pissing me off that everyone is mistaking this (unoriginal) vocal molestation for artistic ingenuity.
@SpaceMagician I don't mind the original... as I said, it's cathartic. And yes, if Tori sang any song like this it would be creepy, that doesn't invalidate my point. There are interviews where she states her intent with this song.
@RomeoCo And she intended to show how creepy it really is? First, I think that does, (for the most part), invalidate your point. Like I said, I could barely listen to the lyrics through her creepy voice. Second, I am actually insulted now that she just essentially ruined the song for the sake of exposing it. I feel, for some odd reason, angry, literally enraged, that she RUINED possibly my favorite song of all time, and people justify it! I feel it's like justifying rape.
@RomeoCo She raped the original. She ruined it, killed it. And she killed my experience listening to it. And I feel like killing myself. "Now it's double homicide and suicide with no note!" :D
@sickofwaitingtables It is about domestic violence. I don't shake my ass but I assume you were just saying that to bastardize the people who enjoy this song, without realizing it's meaning. I am perfectly aware of the nature and content of the song and I enjoy it as a poem. But all that Tori did was actually distract me from the lyrics because of the ridiculous tone she used to recite them. I understand the logic behind this remake, but I find it flawed by her obvious passion regarding misogyny.
@RomeoCo On a more serious note though, if that's all you have to say, then I assume you understand everything else I said? The reason I brought up rape is because I am so enraged at this the more I learn of it. At first, I thought it was just creepy. Now, I am learning that it was to expose the song for what it really is. It's not the song, it's her goddamn voice! She didn't even say it as it was meant to be said. In other words, I understood the creepiness when Eminem sang it, and I liked it!
@SpaceMagician The whole album was her covering of misogynistic songs. While I may not mind this song (I find it interesting, it would be to much to say I like it) it's not a very good album. Her cover of Heart of Gold (no idea why thats even on an album about misogyny) is absolutely terrible. I wouldnt say she raped ether this song or Heart of Gold, that would imply the other ones are made lesser by it. They're just kind of... well. Bad. And thats really about it.
@RomeoCo Oh, I see. So while you don't like it, you do justify it's purpose? (Not sarcasm, by the way. I do understand.) I still think it's terrible. The only reason I don't agree with her is because she just put on a molester-y voice. She didn't really accentuate any misogynistic aspects of the song. I understand in the original why it is creepy, and I even thought it was kind of sweet. If it was "offensive" to her, she should go on The O'Reilly factor and complain. I'm still pretty enraged.
@SpaceMagician I'm not so sure Tori Amos would be welcome on the O'Reilly Factor.
Listen, here's the thing. It's a song. Regardless of the politics or resoning behind it, its a song. There's bad covers of a lot of songs I love out there, made for all sorts of reasons. If Smash Mouth (a band I hate) makes a cover of The Clashes Lost in a Super Market (A song I love) for a movie soundtrack, the motivation is obviously money. But you know... so what? It's a song and doesn't matter in the end.
@RomeoCo I think I know what you mean about her on The O'Reilly factor. Bill just always complains about rappers. I got you, and I am much less mad than before. I think it's terrible and insulting, but she has the right to do or say (virtually) whatever she likes, and that's fine. In fact, good for her. I wasn't even that mad before, I was more... passionate about explaining the song's faults. Looking back, nothing you said was wrong in my opinion. I more misunderstood amidst the acerbity.
Why are you doing a creepy version of this song

Neither would a Tori fan understand what's so impressive about Eminem.

@RomeoCo Oh, and thanks. By the way, I hate Smash Mouth too, and this whole page of comments is our little back-and-forth, haha!
