It's nice that you gave the game another try. The game IS influenced by Zelda, but it's definitely not just like Zelda.
The only true thing that is exactly like Zelda is the hearts, having 3 power ups with your main weapon, and the name entry screen.
Zelda was a great game, and Startropics was made by it, they're both top down games, which is why they're so a like. It would be like saying every top down is a rip off of zelda, or RPGs are a rip off of the first RPG. They're the same genre.

Just because a game is a clone of another doesn't make it good or bad. Star Tropics is a clone of Zelda and it's bad. Perfect Dark is a clone of Goldeneye and it's really good.

Zelda however did go on to become the greatest series of all time, so it established a huge fanbase that went back to play zelda. But you can't say its a clone just cause it uses the same elements (except for the bats...). Video games at that time were like that, and Zelda delivered well. Look at Star Tropics for what it is, rather than comparing it to Zelda.

huh? Allot of games back in the day switched graphic styles, Zelda 2, Blaster Master, Guardian Legend, etc. It was a way to add variety. Also, the game is not hard, most of the video you showed of you getting ganked by the monkeys and the octopus boss reveal how little strategy you employ. The game may not have perfect controls, but they are more than adequate. Don't blame the game for being challenging, that's the point!
Just an example BTW, there is a snowman in a room to the left of the Octopus boss, you can use this to freeze him and then spam yoyo him to death fairly easily. If you would have spent just a little more time exploring you would have discovered this solution. Of course, you could just learn his pattern and time your jumps which also isn't hard, it just takes a little effort.

The game was made by nintendo, so they are gonna make the game built around the concept of zelda. Also here's an example of the the same situation: Rare made both goldeneye and perfect dark, rare was so sucessful with goldeneye that they made perfect dark and clone of goldeneye, I mean, the MAPS in perfect dark are just skins of those found in goldeneye, and you know what? Both games kicked ass just like startropics and zelda.

This guy reviews with FAR too much subjectivisim, rather than an objective standpoint and context from which era of video games it existed in.
For it's time, it offered great action adventure, using the same/similar mechanics and gameplay from Zelda II, however that was the "game engine" it borrowed from, not so different from today. It's old technology only allowed but so much to be modified, hence the large resemblences to say, Zelda II.
While I don't feel propelled to share my take on any of the other complaints, I am urged to say that "the change in graphic styles" is actually a completely regular feature in many games, especially on the NES.
It differentiates the levels (or more "in-depth" locations in a game) and the hub. If you have a bone to pick with this feature in this game, then you should also have one with games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Zelda II (both somewhat different, but with the same general mechanic).
Seeing as Nintendo made both Zelda and StarTropics, they had every right to reuse enemies. And maybe they liked the registration screen from Zelda so decided to use it in StarTropics. The technology was there, so why not?
I have actually played this game. I agree with everything he said in the first review. He didn't have to revisit this game he was right the first time. Complaining about Startropics´ difficulty is pretty rediculous. The game is fairly easy in the beginning, and gets gradually harder towards the end, that´s excactly what a game should do. It´s supposed to be really hard, only experts are meant to be able to beat it.
star tropics is awesome. it has the same idea as zelda, but can you blame them? the zelda formula obviously works. many other games that used the zelda format were clearly bad, but this one actually pulled it off.

Personally, I got completely addicted to Startropics. Once you get the hang of how the badguys and puzzles work, you realize how great of a game it is.
It provides the perfect amount of pace and challenge, and playing the game through is super-rewarding.

Wow! An intelligent response from a Zelda fan! Most of the time it's just "OMG you suck! Lol." While I haven't beaten any Zelda game (I suck at gaming) I've played many of them for hours and hours, and I know enough about them to have a full opinion on them.
Not Twilight Princess, but most reviews of that game say that it's pretty much like every other Zelda game out there, so I didn't even bother. The wolf thing seems gimicky to me as well.

I said that the series sucked, not Twilight Princess. I've played enough Zelda to say that the series sucks, in my opinion. Since most reviews state that Twilight Princess is similar to most Zelda games, I passed it by because I don't like any other game in the series, minus the original. Another example: I don't like High School Musical. I've seen the first one, and pieces of the second. I hated every second of both that I've seen, so I passed by on 3, because most say it's similar to 1+2.
I was one of those people who didn't like Zelda:TP. I thought it was too dark and overall not that fun to play. I truly loved Wind Waker...I think that was the best zelda game in a LONG time.
Heh, I liked that one too. I also LOVE Phantom Hourglass. Truly groundbreaking. How can you not like twilight princess? It's boring when all you have to do is save the princess all the time :). I like to go fishing in TP because of the fun of it. Then I go bulblin bashing.
The graphical style. I like WW but it gets alot of points off for the stupid Graphical style. Twilight Princess is just as awesome but doesn't have that stupid Cartoony Style so it gets my second best Zelda game spot. Wind Waker is my fifth favorite(after the original and link to the Past(OoT is number one for me)
i played it for such a long time and i thought im close to be done but one of my friends told me i didnt even get half way through the game. i just beat Dodongo Cavern, one with all the magma and the boss rolls around and ur suppose to throw bomb in his mouth.
I almost died at the end of this video. By the end I had tears in my eyes because I was laughing so hard. :) <3

Complaining about Startropics´ difficulty is pretty rediculous. The game is fairly easy in the beginning, and gets gradually harder towards the end, that´s excactly what a game should do. It´s supposed to be really hard, only experts are meant to be able to beat it.

star tropics is awesome. it has the same idea as zelda, but can you blame them? the zelda formula obviously works. many other games that used the zelda format were clearly bad, but this one actually pulled it off.
ya, its hard as fuck, but if you cant handle a hard game, then you shouldnt be playing an nes in the first place.

you should of talked about how in the original you need to take a piece of paper from the manual and put it in water so you could find out this number so you could advance further into the game and how in the vc version if you go to the manual it lets you do it also

Personally, I got completely addicted to Startropics. Once you get the hang of how the badguys and puzzles work, you realize how great of a game it is.
It provides the perfect amount of pace and challenge, and playing the game through is super-rewarding.
$5 very well spent.

Not Twilight Princess, but most reviews of that game say that it's pretty much like every other Zelda game out there, so I didn't even bother. The wolf thing seems gimicky to me as well.

I said that the series sucked, not Twilight Princess. I've played enough Zelda to say that the series sucks, in my opinion. Since most reviews state that Twilight Princess is similar to most Zelda games, I passed it by because I don't like any other game in the series, minus the original. Another example: I don't like High School Musical. I've seen the first one, and pieces of the second. I hated every second of both that I've seen, so I passed by on 3, because most say it's similar to 1+2.

I was one of those people who didn't like Zelda:TP. I thought it was too dark and overall not that fun to play. I truly loved Wind Waker...I think that was the best zelda game in a LONG time.

Heh, I liked that one too. I also LOVE Phantom Hourglass. Truly groundbreaking. How can you not like twilight princess? It's boring when all you have to do is save the princess all the time :). I like to go fishing in TP because of the fun of it. Then I go bulblin bashing.

The graphical style. I like WW but it gets alot of points off for the stupid Graphical style. Twilight Princess is just as awesome but doesn't have that stupid Cartoony Style so it gets my second best Zelda game spot. Wind Waker is my fifth favorite(after the original and link to the Past(OoT is number one for me)

i played it for such a long time and i thought im close to be done but one of my friends told me i didnt even get half way through the game. i just beat Dodongo Cavern, one with all the magma and the boss rolls around and ur suppose to throw bomb in his mouth.
