@ashleymaeprough That isn't entirely true. Some dollmakers didn't mark their dolls, or marked their dolls with numbers. Kammer & Reinhardt and Jumeau are examples.
Thank you! I found and bought this doll in a thrift store for $5 and I really love her. I do not normally buy dolls but there was just something about her that I couldn't walk away from. I have been looking for any information on her. I thought she might be a reproduction of an older doll. It doesn't matter, I still love her.
someone bought me one thinking it was an antique, paid about $100. for it, I asked my friend if she kept the recicpt and told her she had gotten taken badly. She threw it out and the store stood by their word as it "really" was an old doll worth well more than $100. she paid them.. It ended up being tossed in the trash. as a rule (my rule-my opinion)..if it's porcelain and not mark by a well know maker, it's trash.
My grandmother brought one of these dolls across the country with her in a covered wagon. Why she was riding in a covered wagon in 1995 I will never know!!!
I have been looking for this doll everywhere. My twin sister and I had one of the original dolls each when we were little & when the family split the dolls got lost. We are coming up on 40th birthday this year and I would love to give my sister one as a present (and buy one for me also). Does anyone know where I can purchase these dolls? I live in Australia and the doll has tremendous sentimental value. If anyone can help me plz contact me here as I will check this page regularly. Thankyou
@ceemaree....have u checked ebay?? there are tons on there, sometimes look under "antique porcelain doll"..."old doll".."doll brown dress" as a key word. Hope you can find one as she pops up quite a bit here in the states.
That was neat. I have never seen so many in one place! I have about twenty...I just cannot leave her languishing in a thrift store or flea market if I see her! I did a couple cool makeovers too.
The name WALDA came from the term when people saw the doll they said, "What A Lovely Doll...Antique?" And then of course the stories were made up about it belonging to their grandmother's mother etc. It is all seriously documented on the Ebay discussion doll board over the years. There is a lot of misinformation about these dolls in the "anyone can say anything online" sort. Still, an interesting collection. My 84yo mother has one with the hat, but it sure isn't any antique. I know.....
Such serious music! So for everyone who thinks Grandma brought these dolls across the country in a covered wagon, I hereby thank MMB for proving otherwise!
I believe a Walda doll makes at least one cameo in the recent film, "The Woman in Black".

I have a True Walda. Blonde hair, long brown dress. I also have a very creepy looking Walda with glass eyes and a musical chair.
