I am sorry to state that this technique didn't work for me.The screen remained blank .Still confused and looking for a solution to activate it.

i have 3g 3.1.2 mb model and it turns off itself suddenly while doing something,or even without doing something

(at night i sleep its on, and in the morning its off)

 and i cannot turn it back on , unless i put on the charger or i connect to a computer!

@the147break Looks like your battery is dead. It's probally got overheated or something. May be caused if you had lightning near your home, while charging your Iphone ect. The battery can no longer hold power, you will have to buy a new battery..

Mines not doing it right. When i turn it on it comes up with a emergency screen even though my sim card is in there and a picture of a USB cable and itunes =/
