Just think of Fritz Lang: In Germany he made masterworks like Metropolis, M or the Nibelungs but then he went to the USA and his movies became cheap commercial trash; so it was with Wolfgang Petersen, who made DAS BOOT (probably the best movie about submarine warfare) and then went to the USA and made this trash Troy (anything based on the Iliad deserves the same treatment as Peter Brook gave the Indian epic Mahabharata)!
