he didnt cross the channel, he fell the distance. go from land to land THEN it will be historic(as in take off and landing, not drop and chute). but as of now, all i see is a skydiver with a wing on his back.
he was not doing a buzz ligthtyear "falling with style", he was not wearing a kite suit. if there was no projection method he wouldnt of been able to gain altidute, and the added wight of the the pack/wings etc would of made certain he did just and only fall. as he made it from one side of the channel to the other, he did certainly fly. so it WAS a historic moment, and a very cool one. im sure he'll only get more creative/ambitous, hats off to you mr Yves Rossy. awesome!
He ignited his engines at 5,600', and maintained an average altitude of about 6,100'. And, besides that, with the weight he was carrying and the efficiency of his wing, he would have needed something in the order of 12,000' altitude to make it across the channel.
Are you a 12 year old or are you really dumb? Think about it for a second before you start making statements. It isn't hard to figure out what the effect of a jet blast would be on your legs. You should try to take off from ground level with 4 jet engines pointed down and I'll hapily buy you a pair of wooden legs (asuming you still have a body to attach them to).
American commentators blah blah blah always ruin everything.

I hate heights and I would never go skydiving, but if I had that opportunity, I would definitely take it. It's totally worth the experience.

True-say! If the jumpjets could lift him off from stationary on the ground, that would be sick!

@crystalmath83 It was incredible because the man strapped jet powered wings to his back and flew in circles over open water.
