These people in this competition are not even singing in their native language. When are americans asked to sing in chinese, or spanish or german or Italian ? Only in opera. It is important to sing in their native language; however, one of the most important purpose or goal of a singing competition is to find someone who have skill, passion in singing.

Sorry, I thought Mariah Carey and Brenda K. Starr both did better justice to the song than her. She sounds pretty dang pretentious and superficial. Her vocals effectively marred the song. And the whistle register, or the dubbing as 'Chinese Mariah Carey'? Obviously Mariah Carey does it best. It's her thing, alongside the powerful belting and all. This is absolute rubbish. Miles away from where MC stands be it 90's or today.

I think many people have forgotten this video clip was taken when she entered a singing competition 5 years ago. Just like any singing contest, contestants take time to mature into idols. Just watch american idol, especially parts when simon never fails to mention that the contestants need to find there individuality. She has definitely matured into a great singer over the last 5 years. In asia i would rate her second best for ballads. First is of cause Misia. Mariah is the number 1 of all time.

I like her gifted talent of singing. However, I can't stop thinking that she's just IMITATING other female vocals' styles and even VOICE. In this case, you'll find it not too hard that her LIVE singing is almost same with Mariah Carrey's RECORDED version.

Besides Jane's version is NOT that great compared to original. It's not because she's got bad voice or skills. It's just her attitude. She need to find her OWN WAY and sing every songs by hers. To those comparing her to Maria I'd say her technique is not as polished as Mariah's but her voice is better than Mariah's, From a true vocal standpoint Mariah's voice is busted and raspy due to improper training technique. Any vocal coach will tell you the same thing. Jane's voice actually retains it's clarity and so it's technically better.

Well, I've listened to Mariah's rendition of this song...and just by listening to Jane's, I can immediately tell that both are quite similar, in terms of style and texture. I may not be as professional as the judge, but I do have very sensitive hearing.
Still, it doesn't make me think any less of Jane. I think she is a very great singer. It's just this song that I don't particularly like as much as the others she's done.
