I'm not a big John Mayer fan and felt that a third Crossroads Guitar Festival appearance was unneccessary. However, his set with the Trio was one of the highlights of the 2010 Festival. Anyone who can make younger fans recognize and appreciate the Blues has value.

On a less cerebral note, I can see myself in the crowd at the beginning on the video! Woo hoo!

@slowhandnet I've never been a huge fan of him either. I can appreciate his guitar playing. He's definitely very talented, but I don't like him as much as other guitarists like Clapton, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, and others. I hate his voice too. It sounds too poppy.

Anyway, sometimes it sucks I don't live in the US. I would LOVE to see this live! Just have to wait for the DVD release, though.

@parisianUK ...on the contrary. i hear him loud and clear. he is a poor copy of a terrible and tone deaf bar band lead guitar spare part playing out of tune, with a crap, not dialed-in amp with bad, cliche' effects that only knows, at best, 4 1/2 bar chords in the 1st position. futhermore, he is a pretty boy poser that's more at home on the cover of a gossip rag, and talking trash and making a complete fool of himself, than sharing a stage with real talent. in my opinion.

@dennisl2008 you need to stop dude you are making yourself sound like an idiot. John Mayer is probably the greatest of our generation if not he is right up there at the top. You need to watch the entire Where the Light Is DVD at leat the John Mayer Trio set. It is incredible. Also in case you dont remember Crossroads 2007...there is def. a reason JM was on stage for the final performance with BB, Buddy, Eric, Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Jimmy Vaughan and they all stood back to let him solo.

When mediocrity is elevated to "greatest of our generation" ,"right up there", then the level of musicanship of 'your generation' of guitarists is truly exposed as a farce worthly to be mocked. And the only reason all "stood back" when he played was to get away from the stink of his mis-fretted clams, poor intontation, greasy stolen phrasing, wrong pickup selection, bad riffs, runs, and out of tune whole note bends. Can't string together a 5 chorus solo if his life depended on it.

Buddy Guy plays with him all the time and Eric Clapton has came out and spoke about his talent. EC says that these are all guys he respects as people and musicians this isnt a talent show its a fund raiser to raise money for a good cause. JM deserves to be there if you dont think so thats your opinion but i can tell you have clearly never given his music a shot.
