It takes alot of patience and love and time to teach a parrot to trust you and more to listen to you to immiate. I support your work and totally find abusive what people say to put you down! All power to you and your wonderful parrots!! KEEP up the great work! I used to breed cockaitels and lovebirds and rescue parrots and gave up that hobby because of what people said; I was a crazy bird lady, now I'm lost without my loves.

Kia is a Yellow Nape Amazon (YNA), they, along with African Greys are amoung the best talkers in the parrot kingdom. Greys are more sensitive, thoughtful and introspective, whereas YNA's are more boisterious, funloving and L-0-U-D. Parrots can live upwards of 80 years and they can be QUITE MESSY, trust me. It is a lifetime committment (see next comment)

for a lifetime friend, a parrot companion. Do LOTS of research on the internet & read books, but don't go by the books written in the 70's. Use current info from at least the 90's or closer to this millenium. Sally Blanchard writes great articles/books and has good advice but there's lots more. Ck out Barron's Guide to Companion Parrot behavior by Mattie Sue Athen, written in 1999. She's got lots of good info, too. Read more info before deciding. I generalized.
