This band combo works out so well! I mean FOB and anthrax are good at their own thing but together they meet somewhere inbetween where they make a really good alt rock band. I am so glad scott ian had the artistic fortitude to go forward with this band in spite of all those metal fans who wear their stereotypes on their sleeves and felt it was an attack on their fragile manufactured image. I'm sorry haters, good music is good music. get over yourselves.
I liked everything except the gutteral screaming... I like to understand the lyrics. If I want to be screamed at the charlie brown speaker from hell I will go to burger king.
This isn't heavy? Fuck yes it is! Just because they don't have 7 or 8 strings, don't use an ultra low tuning, and don't use constant repetitive breakdowns doesn't mean they aren't heavy. People who don't find this heavy have been brainwashed into this newer shit (because that's what it is... just horrible shit). When they actually hear something with TALENT in it, they can't process how amazing and how "heavy" it is. If you want that, go for Whitechapel. If you want amazing talent, stay here.
This is rock. Pure rock. There is nothing HEAVY about it. It's not metal so when you say heavy you're talking about the wrong genre. It's not The breakdown is about as heavy as the song got but remember it's THEIR music so who cares. Let the haters hate.
@dasnake101 I feel it's a bit of both. Definitely not metal, but the verses and bridge feel like hard rock, and then the chorus & some of the guitar rifts here and there feel like a lighter punk style. That's just my opinion.

Secondly Patrick Stump is an amazing Blue eyed soul vocalist, his voice suits funk, soul, R&B and others related to those genres, he's not a punk, metal or any other of those genre's singer, so you can't compare.
People of course are still going to hate him, but that's because of the genre divide.
What is it with everyone trying to compare different genres of music to each other?
This is sexy ass Rock 'n' Roll to the core with extremely talented musicians and a bitchin' vocalist, yes the drummer and one of the guitarists are from FOB (my favourite band...I'm going to get bitched slapped by many Youtube users for that) but they are talented, because they were in a band that you didn't like, that were in a totally different genre doesn't mean they aren't talented.
makes me wonder what the fuck joe and andy were doing in a shitty pop punk like fall out boy...thank god that shit hole of a band broke up and let joe and andy show their true talent
I'm sorry but, Patrick Stump is an excellent singer. One of the best in the industry. With that being said, Keith Buckley is a badass and will always be one of my favorite vocalists.
Another note, the guys in Fall Out Boy were in hardcore bands before FOB was formed. If you actually listened to their music, a lot of their song structuring is more 'hardcore punk' than it is 'pop punk', though, after From Under the Cork Tree, all their songs completely lacked originality.
@dropyourlaundry i agree with that to a extent....tho Fall Out Boy lost their original softcore-pop-punk style of music that they had in the early years i still think Infinity On High was an amazing album. it showed every one that Patrick Stumph has a positively beautiful voice. it proved that you can have a sour bottle baby girl with eyes the size of baby worlds when your one scar away from falling apart....besides things with Fall Out Boy didnt really start to go down hill till Folie à Deux.
@dropyourlaundry o.o I can't agree with that last part at all. I do approve of the comments on this band, Patrick's voice and the first thing about FOB, though. xD
Patrick Stump could sing so much better. So much better, yeah. He's a multi intrumentalist, record producer, composer, singer-songwriter, frontman of my favourite band, and making a solo album all by himself.
@Patspwnage HAHAHAHA you would be surprised how many singers are like your little patrick stump, althou minus the (I wanna kick your face in) glasses and the whingy annoying voice, and most talentless bassist I have ever had the opportunity of seeing play standing next to him.
Pete Wentz is a showoff and untalented guy...I know. I don't like him either.
And there aren't any singers like Patrick Stump. He is unique, the one and only. he doesn't wear glasses anymore. Who makes a solo album and writes the music, lyrics, plays like 10 instruments, sings, and produces it all by themself? I'm sure you can't do any better. Neither can anyone else in your music scene.
@Patspwnage youre right I couldnt do it, but dave grohl has done it, tom gable has done it, the singer from millencolin has done it, even fat mike from nofx does it, not the solo album but he writes the music and lyrics for nofx, ummm the singer from sum 41 does it, do u really want me to go on?
@Patspwnage oh I just realized! ive been arguing with a 12 year old havent I? it makes sense, you like fall out boy, you think patrick stump is awesome, little guy, im sorry to talk down your hero. I'm sure he's great but come back and talk to me when he's been around for over 12 years like real a musician
@Patspwnage Hey Bitch, I'm a guitarist, Bassist, Pianist, Singer, Drummer, I write my own music, Record my own music, Mix my own music, and All that jazz. Patrick Stump is all but a Dingleberry hanging on the Ass of music.
im really suprised how good this album was, i mean when i heard it had members of fallout boy in it a kind of "there goes the neighborhood" thought crossed my mind but the album is actually really good
@Patspwnage I havent listened to The Damned Things enough to dissect his lyrics and see if they differ from his regular band Every Time I Die. In Every Time I Die though he talks alot about art, religion, and the music scene.
really disappointed, the band has so much potentials but there is no raw edge to it!
heard the demos before and was excited but the final outcome is more commercial radio stuff(most choruses)... only 2,3 tracks are heavy (and I do not only mean the screams - I like his singing!)...
heavy and good: weve got a situation, ironiclast
soft and lame: pretty much the rest...
I like the guys but the ALBUM couldve been much better!
@Patspwnage Its not surprising you dont understand him sincr youre not used to screaming vocals. Just look up some of his lyrics online and read them, the man is brilliant.
This is amazing, not only because of the talent but because its not a thing like Fall Out Boy. I can't say the Black Cards are my favorite, but this and what I've heard of Patrick's new record are great.
i couldn't believe it when i heard the line up..i tried to keep calm about it
then i heard this and "friday night" and about lost my cool..i was so fuckin' excited...i hope i can get the cd on the release date..probably gonna have to wait for Christmas or my birthday.
Well according to wikipedia Keith Buckley gets DRUNK and that's one of his ways of writing lyrics...on the other hand, Patrick Stump would never do such a thing.
Of course I know that Pete wrote lyrics for Fall Out Boy. I was saying that Patrick Stump never randomly gets wasted...
And Pete didn't write all the Fall Out Boy lyrics either. In their debut album that not many people have heard of, Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, Patrick wrote all the lyrics. In the follow up album, Patrick and Pete co-wrote the lyrics in most songs, but songs such as "The Pros and Cons of Breathing" have Pete on lyrics and Stump on music.
and that's why Patrick Stump probably should get wasted before he writes, the first album was both musically and lyrically awful. that's why Fall Out Boy kicked out the guy who played rhythm guitar in the band, so they could keep Patrick Stump's vocals, but make him a musical contributor rather than a lyrical one. are you some sort of straight edge christian who thinks everyone should be sober all the time?
and since the first FOB album was so notoriously terrible, wouldn't that make you less likely to use Patrick Stump as an example of someone who knows how to write lyrics?
and one more time, since the first FOB album was so notoriously terrible, and mostly written by Patrick Stump, wouldn't you be less likely to buy a solo album featuring an artist who has not yet proven themselves lyrically capable of writing?
and since you didn't say you weren't straight edge...
What's straight edge? I did a Wikipedia search and it's related to heavy metal and stuff. But the music I like is opposite to the heavy metal scene.
Patrick Stump's CD is the first CD I've actually really wanted to buy (and eagerly know about 1 year b4 it's released), and hope to be really successful. I've heard Patrick Stump's debut song, "Spotlight" and its great.
Well I'll give another example of a (great) lyrics writer then: Taylor Swift. Deep, meaningful lyrics.
Its a punk rock, hardcore, and metalcore thing. Its a movement in which you're abstinante from drugs, alcohol, pre-marital sex, and (i think) cigarettes.
So, its actually opposite to the heavy metal scene. =D
And there are plenty of deep lyricists in heavy metal music.
I used to associate punk rock, metalcore and hardcore with heavy metal...
I still can't discern any differences between hardcore, metalcore and heavy metal. All I know is that they involve thung guys screaming (I'm not at all familiar with the scene).
Abstinate from drugs and alcohol is great...but why would punk rockers do that? I thought they were punks who DO it?
Another question: why are heavy metal people often vegans? They look like the type who kill things?
Wait...if this is heaps heavy to me and it's not heavy metal then...
heavy metal vocals are even ...heavier than this?
And as for the Fall Out Boy guys in this band, they're the heavier side of Fall Out Boy; they're not like Patrick Stump (lead singer of Fall Out Boy who is going solo pop/soul at all).
@Patspwnage These sound too much like Nickelback and other radio rock bands for me to call them metal vocals. Metal vocals have one of the, if not the, farthest range of styles just because of how many genres and sub-genres there are.
@andyscoot43 This sounds borderline metal, it's hard to describe. Keep in mind, metal is one of the most vague labels you can give any band - the subgenres are nearly limitless.
@andyscoot43 You can't honestly say you listen to a lot of metal if it's one of the most clear cut genres in your eyes. By calling something metal, you mean it falls into one of it's numerous subgenres - there are HUNDREDS. And then there are the bands that fit multiple sub genres, as well as diversify it to an extent where you can't label them as something else.
I've got 56 different subgenres of metal in my iTunes, and there's still way more.

@Patspwnage Its not surprising you dont understand him sincr youre not used to screaming vocals. Just look up some of his lyrics online and read them, the man is brilliant.
LattyIce7788 1 year ago
@LattyIce7788
What are the themes of his lyrics?
I'm pretty interested (well a tiny bit) and I didn't write this band off as another heavy rock group that I wouldn't care about yet so...

@krunchykrunchy hopefully keiths vocals will sound better on the actual album and his voice being in the background is just a youtube sound problem.

Glad to see Andy and Joe showing they can actually play the guitar and Drums instead of being handicapped by Pete and FOBs new commercial sound.

Sounds decent. Especially due to Scott Ian's play.

This is amazing, not only because of the talent but because its not a thing like Fall Out Boy. I can't say the Black Cards are my favorite, but this and what I've heard of Patrick's new record are great.

i dont really consider them metal. they arent heavy enough to be metal

@Patspwnage Keith Buckley is a god. His main band Every Time I Die is way more metal than this and his vocals are amazing in both bands.
LattyIce7788 1 year ago
@LattyIce7788
Well according to wikipedia Keith Buckley gets DRUNK and that's one of his ways of writing lyrics...on the other hand, Patrick Stump would never do such a thing.
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage
yeah because Pete Wentz wrote all the lyrics for Fallout Boy. way to go on your wikipedia skills. and Hemingway was a drunk, like many writers.
randymeeks81 1 year ago
@randymeeks81
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage
and that's why Patrick Stump probably should get wasted before he writes, the first album was both musically and lyrically awful. that's why Fall Out Boy kicked out the guy who played rhythm guitar in the band, so they could keep Patrick Stump's vocals, but make him a musical contributor rather than a lyrical one. are you some sort of straight edge christian who thinks everyone should be sober all the time?
randymeeks81 1 year ago
@randymeeks81
The first album did suck...
but Patrick Stump is making a solo album and he is doing everything (I mean Everything) by himself.
I'm not Christian...
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage
and since the first FOB album was so notoriously terrible, wouldn't that make you less likely to use Patrick Stump as an example of someone who knows how to write lyrics?
and one more time, since the first FOB album was so notoriously terrible, and mostly written by Patrick Stump, wouldn't you be less likely to buy a solo album featuring an artist who has not yet proven themselves lyrically capable of writing?
and since you didn't say you weren't straight edge...
randymeeks81 1 year ago
@randymeeks81
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage

@themodernguitarist

GZER33 1 year ago
Fall Out Boy is pure awesomeness pop-rock. I hate heavy metal.
But I listened to Friday Night (Going Down In Flames) and it's (unexpectedly) quite good, thanks to the guitar and drums.
I'm not a fan of heavy metal vocals...so I hate Buckey's voice, especially in this song.
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage The only problem is that these aren't Heavy Metal vocals :p
rockthehiddenlotus 1 year ago
@rockthehiddenlotus
Patspwnage 1 year ago
@Patspwnage These sound too much like Nickelback and other radio rock bands for me to call them metal vocals. Metal vocals have one of the, if not the, farthest range of styles just because of how many genres and sub-genres there are.
rockthehiddenlotus 1 year ago
@Patspwnage metal isnt about how loud and long u can scream... they dont sound like nickel back at all this is metal. not metal core
10evilmonkey01 1 year ago 20
@10evilmonkey01 You keep telling yourself that. Sound's pretty good, but Metal this isn't.
andyscoot43 1 year ago
@andyscoot43 This sounds borderline metal, it's hard to describe. Keep in mind, metal is one of the most vague labels you can give any band - the subgenres are nearly limitless.
Zanryu 1 year ago
@Zanryu It's a very classic rock vibe.
richardmorrison78 1 year ago
@richardmorrison78 I dunno, I'd say it's got the sound of classic rock, but it has a bit too much power to leave it at that.
Zanryu 1 year ago
@Zanryu Lol, it's not, it's one of the most clear cut genre's out there. This is just not Metal, simple as.
andyscoot43 1 year ago
@andyscoot43 You can't honestly say you listen to a lot of metal if it's one of the most clear cut genres in your eyes. By calling something metal, you mean it falls into one of it's numerous subgenres - there are HUNDREDS. And then there are the bands that fit multiple sub genres, as well as diversify it to an extent where you can't label them as something else.
I've got 56 different subgenres of metal in my iTunes, and there's still way more.
