  • Also, I thought the tabbing wire is self soldering. Have you tried soldering it without using solder? I guess the tin coating on the wire acts as the solder.

  • Does the tabbing wire have to be in flat contact with the whole strip? It looked like you had a couple places where it arched away from the cell on the first one you did.

  • Wicked man, you really shone :)

  • Huge sale! 4 days only. DIY solar panel kit $99. PV frames $39. Make your own solar panels and find all your diy solar products at solar-deals(.)com.

  • can u tell me how to get those panels?plz

  • Thanks this soldering works some of the other tabbing techniques on other diy vids don't. Good on you from australia.

  • great series. im inspired. thanks. i need to get some solar cells. can you recommend a good source? thanks from hawaii!!

  • Honestly... your soldering technique(s) need work. Use a fan to blow the solder smoke away from your face, and, if possible, do it an outside ventilated room.

  • 200% video.

Are you doing this on plastic bubble wrap, what about heat melting it?

  • If there is sun panels all over the windmill you will nearly always be capable to get energy from the constrution.

  • Well if people have a house and garden, they can construct a windmill maybe together with sun panels.

  • Looks great! Keep it up!

  • I like those small panels. 65 dollar is not too expensive, here in Holland I can buy only 6 small panels for that money. Great show man.

  • Another Great Project video. Thanks my friend.

  • @edstar83 Glad you enjoyed it.. Lots more to come.

  • Hoooray for solder smoke!!

  • @roxtar10870 LOL

  • interesting what are you going to put them all in ?

  • @daddytech Im looking for glass sheets to mount them in and I will put them on my roof. I cant wait to get a couple of these done,

    -Pete

  • @mixcatcom yeah i have seen them mounted a bunch of different ways when they are built like these are that's why i asked. saw one design where a guy re-purposed his old c-band satelite and covered them with thin lexan, saw one mounted in boxes all around his chimney, one that built round cylinders out of them for on his roof those designs were so no matter what time of the day it was they were getting energy from the sun. I am still impressed with the solar shingles actually.

  • @mixcatcom get low iron glass , work best for solar panels. Help you get the infrared light . Great video btw,

  • What type of flux and solder are you using ? What price range on the Iron are we looking at ?

  • @scoobydog411 the soldering iron is from MPJA and about $50-$60

    Its paste solder.

    -Pete

  • Well done Pete . Good to see you.

  • @hellavadeal Thanks.. I hope your doing well..

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • I noticed you were using the flux and then adding a little soder as an addhesive for the tin. Is it neccessary to use the flux since your going to be sodering over top of it with the addhesive?? But great video thanks in advance.

  • @traphic11y You dont have too, but it does make the process easier.

  • 7 cells @ 0.5 volts per cell, should net 3.5 volts in full sun

These 3" X 6" cells should put out about 3.5 AMPS max or 1.75 WATTS per cell.

SYLGARD® 184 SILICONE is the on of the best products to seal these to the glass once your ready to encapsulate them.

    I enjoyed your video, Thanks

  • @CTOL1 Thanks for the details! Your right on the money there.

Im going to put 38 cells in each panel im thinking.

Hope to get some nice tempered glass too.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • @mixcatcom get some schottky diodes, to separate each bank of cells, you want at least 18 volts to then be regulated by a charge controller then to the 12 volt battery.

The output will not always be as high as that, but would provide usable voltages under low light conditions.

10 amp charge controller can be found on ebay for less than $20

search "10A Solar Panel Charge Controller Regulator 12V/24V"

they are from China, but hey, what isn't these days?

    Patio doors work great!!

  • Very good info, Thank you and good luck with all your projects.

  • @Hollrobb Thanks my friend! Lots more to come.

  • I just looked up the cost of solar panels on Amazon.com $875. The price of a solar cell? $1.35- $4.99 X 55 cells versus $875 for a 55 cell panel. This is valuable information.

  • @fivestarmichael I been pricing out panels for a long time, doing it this way you save a lot and you can make them in small batches. Before you know it you will have the whole house powered.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • leave a little space between the cells so they don't short across. I use a 50 watt Hanko iron with a regulator so I can regulate my temperature. the temperature can be to hot and too cold. check out my video on diy aluminum framed solar panels on my channel.

  • @shartne Thanks for the tip I will check that out.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • a pleasure watching you work. it will be interesting to see your solution for the rest of the panel. commercial panels are sealed and guaranteed to last quite awhile, so the pattern to build them to protect the cells would seem to be key to protecting the material cost and your labor. keep us posted on your project pete.

take good care, oh one question is off of e bay did you get a great deal or did you pay going rate? where could on look for the cells to start a project?

  • @watcher0777 Thanks for the comments, and I did get these off ebay and really got a great deal I felt. I just hope all the cells are the same quality.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • what happen to your hho generator?

  • @Iseekoutthetruth I have not played with HHO for some time.. I will do more HHO videos soon.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • great video thanx for sharing. :)
