Here's the production for this turbine for the past 3 years.
2011 - 2,555 kwh
2010 - 2,047 kwh
2009 - 2,345 kwh
It will likely never earn it's money back, but it was well worth the experiment.
It would need to produce 1000 kwh a month with a yearly output of 12,000 to make it well worth the money and take the local electric company out of most folks equation.
Still, glad we tried it. Doubt we'd put in another until the output increases dramatically.
mytube8488 you are almost right. dont forget about taxes, fees transmission cost to use the electrical wires, and this is a fixed cost of electricity. Now i do not aggree with the way they installed this machine , you will need a crane every time you do repairs, an i dont agree witht he price of one of these, they are so expensive only because the government is giving back 30% right now
Mytube8488, you are 100% correct. Also, anyone considering Skystream should know they would be supporting a company that laid off 14 employees, then got a $10 million dollar investment package, and refuses to hire back those 14 people. They are taking that money to China and admit it in news articles.
300KWh's x .08cents per KWh is about $24 of electricity per month. The cost of the system @ $15,000 divided by $24 is 625 months. 625 months divided by 12 is 52 years.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the payback will take 52 years at your average of 300KWh per month.
I have a old farm windmill and want to restore it so it will provide power. Any help? I have the tower, the blades and the space for it. Just need to know where to go or who to talk to about the parts to generate power for it.
For the money - not worth it. Your still on the grid. 200-300 KwH per month is mild usage. The Average American Home uses 800-1000 KwH per month. Your usage shows your very conservative & frugal. @ 200-300 KWH per month, very frugal! The Bergey XL would have been a better choice. Good job - but GET OFF THE GRID man! Prices are dropping, its becoming affordable. Screw the greedy manipulative energy company.
So we're thinking about adding one of these to our farm but I'm tired of talking to sales people. Do you know what you pay per kw? And do you know what your average wind is? What kind of geothermal heatpump and how much did you pay for it? Are you happy with everything? I think 7-8 years of pay sounds pretty good!
How much did the whole set up run you? I live in Washington State and I get a constant wind hitting the house that I would like to convert to free energy. Thanks!

I just wonder how the turbine heads in the same direction of the wind ? is it a mechanical yawing system ? and how is it working ?

not to sure where you'd go to refit. I'd start by checking the manufactures sites.

Cool...That gives me some sort of idea. How long will it take before you recoup the costs through the savings? Have you tallied it up?
