This is why I love Tidus, he is happy and funny. Unlike practically every other ff character who is either depressed angry or indifferent and also Tidus probably has one of the most depressing stories being told he isnt realy real and watching his entire city get destroyed and then leaving his loved one. FFX and Tidus all the way.

@samus179 I would disagree. Since your playing as the warriors of light there is no character development. The only characters with an actual name are Sarah, Garland, Chaos and a few others. The later final fantasies that have a protagonist create a stronger and more emotional story. It's hard to connect with a nameless, faceless, voiceless group of warriors. Just because it is the original does not mean it was the best. I've played practically ever ff and X is my favorite.

@samus179 Tidus finding he was a dream, Cloud fighting Sephiroth, Zack death, Terra fighting against her past, Zidane genome story, Squall opening up to Rinoa. even FFV which had the same concept as FF1 was better becasue it gave the characters a name, backstory and purpose. Plus the fact that they either died or survived made it better. And because the didn't react doesn't mean they were braver. Also by comparison, the other ff chararcters have accomplished much more than the first ones.

Tidus' doesn't have a terribly depressing history in comparison to other FF characters, though it is sad, he is a very great character. I think his story during the game was sad. Taken out of his home away from friends and family to a mysterious world with even more mysterious laws then, knowingly, is forced to disappear from his new friends and cannot see the future that he was supposed to.

@justa16thnote Hmmm the only characters that really have a depressing story are Terra, being a tool of destruction. Zidane finding out he was an 'angel of death', 1-3 were not sad. Cecil had a bit of a rough time. Bartz was ok. Cloud had really two bad experiences and that's about it. Squall just complains too much. But the thing is each of these characters got a happy ending to some degree, Tidus was the only one that didn't. Im not counting FFX-2 since the good ending is optional.

@SoraKairiRiku4evaTidus is the only main character to die at the end of the game, which gave him a sadder departure than a past that feuls his drive to get to the end. Tidus beat Sin for Yuna, and Spira. Yes, his father was involved, but he found the spiral of death to be a big waste of time for everyone and decided that if he was going to stay there he wouldn't want Sin to stay either. THen he realizes he's going away and does it anyway. Sadder than Dad issues, I believe.

Remember when he was talking to Yuna in Macalania after the whole Bevelle event? He tried to cheer her up with all the things they could do in his Zanarkand. He tries to find the bright side of a situation.

But in his mind, sure, he wonders about home, and he hates his dad. But that's his mind.

@WolfSyn If you haven't played FFX, it's a simple explanation: Summoner trains to get Final Aeon by getting all other summons on the way. Summoner defeats Sin with Final Aeon, which requires a Guardian to sacrifice their life to do so. But once that's done, Yu Yevon takes possession of Final Aeon and becomes the next Sin. So when Jecht, Braska, and Auron do their pilgrimage, Jecht volunteers to become the fayth/sacrifice for the Aeon. So Jecht become the next Sin.
