i've heard something about rice paddies, saying they're a major contributer to greenhouse gas emmissions, (methane particularly). Is this true, and if so, should those, ie vegans persuing an emission friendly diet consider reducing rice intake too?
Livestock is a lot more methane compared to how many people are fed by livestock as opposed to rice. Rice is a staple of half the planet and produces less than half the methane of livestock. But they could grow it differently and produce less methane.
Brown rice is very nutritious, it's just not too many people eat it. And not only is it a great whole food, it requires less processing than white rice, and is a meal in itself.
Animal agriculture is a terrible waste of land, water and energy. All that could go directly to produce food for people, instead of becoming food for animals to get fat enough for slaughter.

Thanks for the vid. I never knew it was as much as 20%. It's be interesting to know how much this is compared to the same amount of food crops, so I'm off to research.
Just one thing:
"The United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization"
Should read:
"The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization"
The world bank has new figures that states that livestock production is actually responsible for 50% plus of GHG, and not the previous 20% as previously thought.

They say switching to a vegetarian diet will save more greenhouse gases than switching to a hybrid car!
