@piedpiperpianos how so? I see a blind man trying to asert himself in a world that regards him as second class, when clearly he is one of a kind, pure genius who delt with is affliction in a positive way, especially when you think of how unpolitially correct his time was.
@fluidjazz I guess you are right - it is difficult to judge these old clips by today's standards. On first listen I heard prejudice and rudeness - but many artists are much ruder. He is certainly innovative - and right what he says about Fats Waller - his blindness never even struck me - to be honest I didn't get past the intro the first time. My February resolution is to post only positive comments online - thanks for pointing out my failings - I am not being ironic! Cheers
Hey...I forgotthis was RRKs song...I'm more familiar with Grover's version from his Skylarkin album...but it's similar to this version... Totally diggin RRK's improv on this.
I wish he was still around. He talked to his audience and then showed their ears some real cool shit! A real showman and wonderful jazz musician. The guys today think they too cool to talk to us. From me, to you, Rasahnn, prayers and much love.
Sampling before there was sampling!
