As for the later population exchange with the Greeks, it was actually Venizelos' idea, something Greeks mostly don't even know. I have friends form the town of Minayik near Arguvan/Arapgir (Malatya), it had a very large Armenian population and from what I hear, actually still does, but they were taken in by Alevis there and hidden. Historical evidence is not based on dead grandparents stories and gruesome pictures. Your History teacher did the right thing, for this has not been recognized officially by the US nor from the UN. True, many people were killed during WW1 in the Ottoman Empire, but while the Turks were killed on the battlefield, Ottoman Armenians died at the hands of their own government. My history teachers in the US did the right thing by teaching what happened to the Armenians was a genocide. Now I work in the US annals and see for myself, that it was a planned mass murder. It will take time, but the US and UK will recognize it as genocide as well.
Do some research about history and the definition of genocide before requesting for recognition. You can't just listen to one side of the history and accept it. Americans tend to accept your story due to the fact that you Armenians have more influence (than Turks) especially through the entertainment industry (e.g. Cher and you guys, forgot your band's name and can't be bothered to look it up). It was the Armenians who started the conflict by joining the ottoman empire's invaders.
To listen to both sides in the case of Armenian genocide is also to say that there is a Jewish and Nazi side to the Holocaust. In fact Turkey has more influence in the US, as American air force bases are located throughout Turkey, giving Turks political power. Turkey also exercises economic power for being a big client for the American military industry. In contrast, Armenians have no political clout in comparison.
@stedular No, there is no Jewish side, Nazi side...there is enough evidence, which by the way was all presented in the Nuremberg Trials, that it was jewish genocide. There were enough mass graves and ovens to prove that...not just photos.
There are more than just photos and statements in the US annals alone that clearly state what happened to the Armenians under Ottoman rule was indeed genocide. Even Raphael Lemkin who coined the word genocide admitted that what happened to the Jews during World War 2 in Nazi occupied Europe also happened to the Armenians under Turkish rule.
Col. Wooley, British officer, estimated the Armenians had killed 300,000-400,000 Muslims in Van and Bitlis alone. These and other cities are in the east, not the Balkans. Along with the mass killings, Armenians engaged in wholesale rape, often including very young girls, and torture. These are documented by friends of Armenians in contrast to Turkish crimes documented by hearsay. As for those found guilty in the 1919 mock trials by a puppet gov't: the British themselves rejected these findings.
If Turkish Government didn't think there's sufficient enough of evidence to prove the mass killings of Turks and Muslims and that there was no intent to exterminate the Armenian population, they would not be demanding to be brought to International court. Turkey has also invited other countries for a historical commission with Armenia. I think that speaks for itself. Period.
Historical Commission is a lie. Historians have already deemed what happened to the Armenians was genocide, like the International Association of Genocide Scholars. All 40 members unanimously agreed that it was genocide. I have read what was in Turkey's annals. They have little evidence that a genocide happened, but no evidence to say that there was anything similar happening to Turks and other Muslims.

The IAG, isn't in any position to determin any genocides!, they sit on a board and check off on anything thats thrown in front of them, AND are funded by various Armenian organizations. IAG is just one of many independent groups that have concluded what happened to the Armenians was indeed a genocide. @nurettinsarul The issue is not whether Armenians killed Turks or not. Of course they did. Russians, did, Greeks did as well. And the Turks had their right to defend themselves. What is being debated is whether it was a genocide - i.e., whether there was a direct order from İttihak ve Terakki to have the Armenian people killed en masse. The Turkish government says "let the historians decide," then blocks discussion, but even Turkish historians have upheld it. And received death threats.

As for the later population exchange with the Greeks, it was actually Venizelos' idea, something Greeks mostly don't even know. They were trying to create a pure state too after all; the Turks just took advantage of the opportunity. Of course the Greeks lost a lot more in the deal.

I have friends form the town of Minayik near Arguvan/Arapgir (Malatya), it had a very large Armenian population and from what I hear, actually still does, but they were taken in by Alevis there and hidden. Many then lived on as "hidden" Armenians; I know several such people. But I'm sad that this taboo goes on, because it's bad for both peoples.

@bozkurdi Turkey has been trying for a long time though. Ahmet Cemal Pasha, Ismail Enver Pasha, and Mehmet Talat Pasha to death for war crimes. This isn't fiction. There were so many witnesses (Germans, who were Turkey's allies), and documentation. Turkey has no answer to that other than to say "it didn't happen," and "If you recognize it we won't cooperate with you." It says "let the historians decide" and then stops discussion, and Turks who speak about it get prosecution and death threats.

Armenians do not have to jump on the Jewish Holocaust bandwagon, history is on their side. There is no real evidence that the majority or even a significant number of Armenians were in the Nazi party. Turkey will always play politics instead of history to have the Armenian genocide denied in the US and UK. The historic documents proving Armenian genocide happened are not false, and any historian in Turkey mentioning the subject is put down harshly if not killed.

Historical evidence is not based on dead grandparents stories and gruesome pictures. Your History teacher did the right thing, for this has not been recognized officially by the US nor from the UN. True, many people were killed during WW1 in the Ottoman Empire, but while the Turks were killed on the battlefield, Ottoman Armenians died at the hands of their own government. My history teachers in the US did the right thing by teaching what happened to the Armenians was a genocide. Now I work in the US annals and see for myself, that it was a planned mass murder. It will take time, but the US and UK will recognize it as genocide as well.

Do some research about history and the definition of genocide before requesting for recognition. You can't just listen to one side of the history and accept it. Americans tend to accept your story due to the fact that you Armenians have more influence (than Turks) especially through the entertainment industry (e.g. Cher and you guys, forgot your band's name and can't be bothered to look it up). It was the Armenians who started the conflict by joining the ottoman empire's invaders.

There are more than just photos and statements in the US annals alone that clearly state what happened to the Armenians under Ottoman rule was indeed genocide. Even Raphael Lemkin who coined the word genocide admitted that what happened to the Jews during World War 2 in Nazi occupied Europe also happened to the Armenians under Turkish rule.

Historical Commission is a lie. Historians have already deemed what happened to the Armenians was genocide, like the International Association of Genocide Scholars. All 40 members unanimously agreed that it was genocide. I have read what was in Turkey's annals. They have little evidence that a genocide happened, but no evidence to say that there was anything similar happening to Turks and other Muslims.

There is very little evidence of genocide ocurring in the Turkish annals against Armenians, and almost no evidence of Armenians committing anything close to genocide against Turks and other Muslims. There are no "mass graves" in Anatolia.Therefore,a crack team of Armenian researchers dug here up for 2.5 years during the Malta tribunals.They did researches in Ottoman archives too,just to make their enemy look more miserable and hide because they did not obey the 14 points.What did they come up with?Zilch!

Lack of evidence on your side doesn't mean it didn't happen, because there is much supressed evidence in the US alone to prove that Armenians suffered a genocide. But the US will contain the evidence in favor of good relations with Turkey, a major client of the US military industry and a key NATO ally. Will you come see the evidence yourself, or are you content to stay where you are and hide? If you are so sure, what do you have to fear?
