as far as I remembered this was the very first trailer and some of the lines in this were changed and i remember I was dissapointed because i.e galadriel did not say that HEAVY HEAVY gorgeaus line "even the smallest person can change the course of the future" that optimistic, haha.

Many agree that Avatar and Titanic are the best movies ever made. But for me, The Lord of the Rings trilogy are the best. Avatar had great effects, Titanic had a great story, but LOTR had it all.

Three people who watched this are fucking assholes. I remember sitting in a dark and utter silent movie theater and the next thing to come on the screen was this trailer. I had no clue they were making LOTR into a movie, and I had always wished they would because I read all three books and they were without a doubt one of the best epic stories I have and will ever read. When I saw that first clip of the ring and the Tengwar writing appear on the screen...I literally JIZZED MY PANTS!

I remember seeing this first trailer in the theater about a year before Fellowship of the Ring was released. At the time I remember thinking, "If they treat this right and stay true to the story, it will go down in film history among the greatest ever put on film".

well I think it's because Avatar relied more on special effects than telling a truly compelling story. I prefer LOTR much more because I sympathized with the characters, was fascinated by the folklore that surrounded the creatures, and fell in love with the setting (Middle Earth) the first time I saw it. I remember when I first watched this movie with my family and friends who became huge fans of the trilogy. It brings back alot of memories :)

MAn I remember seeing this back in like january of 2001 and I was freaking FLOORED. I had NO IDEA they were making these into movies at that time! I was there opening night for all three, it was seriously fucking CRAZY, more like a rock concert then a movie premier.

I know it's just a movie but it's gonna be one of those things that I'll never forget, almost like being there for a part of history. I can't wait for The Hobbit.

Also the ring is described a little bit in the first scenes of the first movie. Basically the One Ring can control all of the other rings of power, which are in the possession of all elf/human/dwarf leaders.

I am also still obsessed with LOTR but have hope...the Hobbit is coming 2011 and 2012 (2 parts) so mabey they will become popular again.
