Hey man. Gamers Union is the answer for sure. The problem is people are fucking lazy. Youtube subscriptions is a great start, but we need to get the word and the idea out there more. Remember Youtube is only a SMALL amount of the online population. Companies like EA/Microsoft/Sony/Bioware etc are already experienced at manipulating online communities. I myself frequent a certain message boards and you always see people who are paid to defend shitty companies like EA/Activision/Bioware.
The worst DLC i have ever seen was black ops last map pack which tried to re sell me the zombie maps that i already had in World at War and one new map for zombies in black ops for $12.

Just curious, do you use credit cards? Do you currently have a contract with a cable TV or satellite provider? Do you have a contract with an ISP or wireless service provider, etc?
They're all tracking your usage, and figuring out ways to sell your information to various marketing concerns, and they are much better at it than gaming companies, not to mention they're in bed with lobbyists and politicians.

I've been playing on both consoles and PCs my whole life, and I'm sorry to say that things on the PC side are if anything even worse. It's even easier to nickel 'n' dime, games are consistently released unfinished because of the mentality that patches or expansions can fix everything, and many of the system's most storied franchises are being completely violated and turned into kiddy Facebook games.
So much to say and only 500 characters to say it... I completely, 100% agree that a "union" will be downright necessary to make any change whatsoever with the state of gaming today. I'm not entirely convinced that any one group will amass enough people to make much more than one or two waves that delay the inevitable... but I'd sure like to try. Hell man have you ever even heard of baby torrent sites like PirateBay?
The only acceptable downloadable content is when it actually ADDS ON instead of UNLOCKING things ; Fallout 3 and New Vegas for example. I don't want anymore day 1 dlc, and "dlc" costumes that are actually on the disc waiting to be unlocked.
The shit capcom is pulling is a prime example of it. Sure, it's understandable to re-release a fighting game to balance it back in the early 90's, but not today. Everything should be easily done through a patch.
All it takes is a little more infighting and the whole video game market will be a huge mess of exclusive games and publishing issues. Everything "crashes" eventually. It's just a matter of time.

You've had my support for some time now, and still do. I'm sick of the way the gaming industry currently operates. It used to be simple, and clean. Nowdays it's turned into something I don't even recognize anymore. It's dominated by a few big companies, and they're all as scummy as possible in their practices. 15 dollar DLC packs that are really only 3 or 4 maps, 60 dollar "games" that are really just expansion packs, just to name a couple things. I'm sick and tired of it.
but DLC is normally created to generate revenue for future projects, as well as arcade and casual games. If they got rid of DLC then they'd all need to turn to the online pass which many are doing to give a better impression to customers. You also mention taxes, however allot of publishers are moving in favour of online distribution and downloads so games and DLC are cheaper. Also a quick mention to your argument that you cant go back and redo a bad movie...what about remakes ? directors cuts?

DLC was never needed in the first place if you made a complete game to begin with. If it's good people will buy it regardless. Gaming had survived for 20 years prior to DLC without it so stop believing what those companies are feeding you.
@JollyJonney The gaming industry has been going fine for decades without DLC. DLC was introduced only in this generation and has become a "make as little as possible and add it on later for more money" excuse.
I think the question most people ask is not what but how.
I have no doubt that many gamers (real ones at least) want a unionized group and message to send to politicians and publishers. We've already seen EA and other publishers give way to our boycotts on reddit so it can be done, but most people don't know where to start and therefore don't participate.

Y'know I'm sort of with you on this, that console gaming is getting more and more shitty, but.. I own a computer, and it's the difference between night and day. Of course, we don't get all the games you do (I want to play Bayonetta. Very, very badly.) but the games we do get, we don't have the problems with them like this. Also, I can provide a little insight into the PC side of it: some of the most beloved and cherished PC games are being ruined by this as well, we PC gamers prefer the term "consolization":watering down the graphics, gameplay, removing modding tools, restrictions to online play, etc. in order to allow it to be released on console to make more money, some examples of this are anything by Epic, Crysis 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, CoD started the process 7 or 8 years ago, etc.
I've responded to another of your videos, I 100% support your ideas and what you're trying to do, but this is a battle you can't win man, you can get a million of us to not buy the next brown n'bloom fps #1244, but there will still be 10 million 14 year old kids screaming to their parents to buy it, there's nothing that we can do, and according to the law making bodies of the US, they aren't technically doing anything illegal, no matter how sick and immoral it actually is.
PC gamers usually don't take this kind of shit. Microsoft tried to charge PC gamers for a service equal to what they already had for free (Steam) and it failed horribly.

You can't possibly hope to change the industry runs, addons or dlc packs, sequels or rehashes, it's not much difference. Buying a digital copy shouldn't give you any rights. But aren't the most knows franchises are selling because of advertisement and not how good the games are? Fan forums supervised by community managers and reviews written by employees of publishing company. This is bullshit and this is what makes bad games, because with good advertising it doesn't matter how bad the game is
I don't know if i completely agree with this idea. I like the idea of making companies having to make better products, but I think there is a better way of forcing them to make better products. Can't we deregulate the gaming industry more. Doesn't it make sense that a deregulated industry of game would allow companies to create products that will attract the consumers? Wii tried to use cheap gimmicky products, and Nintendo now has one of the most tarnished good will brand values on the market.
Then don't buy a console, it's that simple. Do you really think large companies will care if you boycott their products? If you won't buy it, someone else will. Capcom has done things like releasing Street Fighter II - with a handful of new characters - five times in two years for a long time, so this new MVC3 isn't exactly shocking.
As for DRM issues you mentioned, the publishers have gone too far with PC, but they've usually realized it was a bad idea after the reaction of the community.
Nevertheless, I agree with you; DRM that stops legit customers from playing and full prized sequels that hardly count as expansion pack needs to stop.
@Tomahaukka Street Fighter 2 was an exception in my eyes, since you couldn't issue updates or DLC like you could back then.
But I agree with this old American guy, releasing a new version of the game to make the old one completely obsolete isn't right. Capcom already did it with SFIV but it was acceptable because of the big time gap between release.
Anyway. The best solution is piracy. Wait until some guy figures out custom firmware for the latest PS3 firmware and we're away.

I just read the End User License Agreement for Origin it states that by installing Origin you're giving EA the right to monitor your PC and to make a profile of you, including what programs you have installed (and whether you have any illegally downloaded material), what websites you use, etc., and that EA reserves the right to share or sell this information to third parties.

Just curious, do you use credit cards? Do you currently have a contract with a cable TV or satellite provider? Do you have a contract with an ISP or wireless service provider, etc?
They're all tracking your usage, and figuring out ways to sell your information to various marketing concerns, and they are much better at it than gaming companies, not to mention they're in bed with lobbyists and politicians.
A union is pointless for a luxury industry - are there cable users' rights unions?

I've been playing on both consoles and PCs my whole life, and I'm sorry to say that things on the PC side are if anything even worse. It's even easier to nickel 'n' dime, games are consistently released unfinished because of the mentality that patches or expansions can fix everything, and many of the system's most storied franchises are being completely violated and turned into kiddy Facebook games.

I'm not entirely convinced that any one group will amass enough people to make much more than one or two waves that delay the inevitable... but I'd sure like to try. I remember back to those times when you brought the game, and that was it. There are very few companies who want to make a LEGITIMATE product anymore. And all this DRM is beginning to piss me off. The only acceptable downloadable content is when it actually ADDS ON instead of UNLOCKING things ; Fallout 3 and New Vegas for example. I don't want anymore day 1 dlc, and "dlc" costumes that are actually on the disc waiting to be unlocked.
The shit capcom is pulling is a prime example of it. Sure, it's understandable to re-release a fighting game to balance it back in the early 90's, but not today. Everything should be easily done through a patch.
From now on, I'm buying used Capcom games.

You've had my support for some time now, and still do. I'm sick of the way the gaming industry currently operates. It used to be simple, and clean. Nowdays it's turned into something I don't even recognize anymore. It's dominated by a few big companies, and they're all as scummy as possible in their practices. 15 dollar DLC packs that are really only 3 or 4 maps, 60 dollar "games" that are really just expansion packs, just to name a couple things. I'm sick and tired of it.

but DLC is normally created to generate revenue for future projects, as well as arcade and casual games. If they got rid of DLC then they'd all need to turn to the online pass which many are doing to give a better impression to customers. You also mention taxes, however allot of publishers are moving in favour of online distribution and downloads so games and DLC are cheaper. Also a quick mention to your argument that you cant go back and redo a bad movie...what about remakes ? directors cuts?

can you explain how im wrong ? i understand that you must get your fair share of negative feedback but i think i have a fair argument; if a studio cant bring in funds how are they meant to pay for future projects as well as staff wages, equipment, etc ? its either DLC, multiple annual copies which will ultimately leave the series watered down, whats your opinion on the matter ? how do you believe that studios should gather funding without becoming annual releases ?

I think the question most people ask is not what but how.
I have no doubt that many gamers (real ones at least) want a unionized group and message to send to politicians and publishers. We've already seen EA and other publishers give way to our boycotts on reddit so it can be done, but most people don't know where to start and therefore don't participate.

Also, I can provide a little insight into the PC side of it: some of the most beloved and cherished PC games are being ruined by this as well, we PC gamers prefer the term "consolization":watering down the graphics, gameplay, removing modding tools, restrictions to online play, etc. in order to allow it to be released on console to make more money, some examples of this are anything by Epic, Crysis 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, CoD started the process 7 or 8 years ago, etc.

You can't possibly hope to change the industry runs, addons or dlc packs, sequels or rehashes, it's not much difference. Buying a digital copy shouldn't give you any rights. But aren't the most knows franchises are selling because of advertisement and not how good the games are? Fan forums supervised by community managers and reviews written by employees of publishing company. This is bullshit and this is what makes bad games, because with good advertising it doesn't matter how bad the game is

I don't know if i completely agree with this idea. I like the idea of making companies having to make better products, but I think there is a better way of forcing them to make better products. Can't we deregulate the gaming industry more. Doesn't it make sense that a deregulated industry of game would allow companies to create products that will attract the consumers? Capcom has done things like releasing Street Fighter II - with a handful of new characters - five times in two years for a long time, so this new MVC3 isn't exactly shocking.
As for DRM issues you mentioned, the publishers have gone too far with PC, but they've usually realized it was a bad idea after the reaction of the community.
Nevertheless, I agree with you; DRM that stops legit customers from playing and full prized sequels that hardly count as expansion pack needs to stop.

@Tomahaukka Street Fighter 2 was an exception in my eyes, since you couldn't issue updates or DLC like you could back then.
But I agree with this old American guy, releasing a new version of the game to make the old one completely obsolete isn't right. Capcom already did it with SFIV but it was acceptable because of the big time gap between release.
Anyway. The best solution is piracy. Wait until some guy figures out custom firmware for the latest PS3 firmware and we're away.
