Go into safe mode and disable the video driver in and you should be able to use the computer but you can not use 3d applications still. Had the same problem happen to my comp.
I was recently informed that HP have offered a 3 year extended warranty on all DV series laptops - call em up and get them to repair it for free!! Although if they put the same Mobo in, surely it's gonna fail again after a year!!!
This problem is due to dry jointing on the motherboard around the nvidia chipset, I have just repaired one of these, it requires removing the motherboard and using a quality flux with a heat gun on the area of the motherboard where the two nvidia chips are, this should solve the issue. This problem has probably been caused by led free solder.
hmm i didnt realize this video got so many comments. hahaha.
anyways yea i sent it in to HP took about 2-3weeks before someone called me saying they'll just replace my laptop with a completely new one. I got the same model with better specs since they gave me in specs the amount i paid for, for the first laptop.. and since better computer parts were cheaper, i pretty much got upgraded.
This new laptop i've had since september 2008 hasn't had any problems yet. works pretty well.
I've a dv9575ep with 2 years of warranty and 1 or 2 days after the end of warranty the graphic dies, now i have to by a new mother board or stay with a 17" brick here at home...
I'm about to slander their name though accounts and Emails its been 3 F-ING months now! thank god I did not need my laptop much this semester but Summer classes are coming up and then Fall again and I don't know if I need to relie on a laptop as much as i did on my semesters b4
a $1700 investment SHOULD NOT FAIL (TWICE) IN 1.2 YEARS!
It's not too late submit your info and be apart of this movement. This is serious fraud and HP needs to be held responsible for selling us products with defective chips, just be sure to provide your s/n and product number.
yeah this is a known defect google hplies and go to that website submit your info and support the case against HP! They refuse to take care of this issue our only option is a legal avenue.
Looks like an jolly good puter lol.
