i think it was a mistake becaus it feels odd in the song, and he repeated that riff like a few times, and only that repetition was different, I think its clearly a mistake.
anyway, in 7m of improvising, making one mistake is nothing, I think it even makes it look better that he hasn't made any other mistake in seven minutes of fast soloing
I don't think it is a mistake, but he planned to play it. Because theoretically it is not wrong, but if you compare it with the original song it is different.
It's all down to taste really, I enjoy listening to this stuff, but I absolutely hate RnB and Pop, but I know there are people who love that kind of stuff, but I never see the technicality or talent in it, and the lack of emotion or expression bugs me as well.
Every time I see Jordan Rudess play live or on a video, it brings me to a point where I wish I could just sell my Fantom X8 and do something else in life. He is amazing, but it is really depressing and disheartening.
Believe it or not, he was using the Korg Triton Extreme as a MIDI controller for his V-Synth GT. It's just that KORG paid the subtle marketing fee for his Keyboard Wizardry DVD before Roland got in. :)
I own a Triton Extreme, and it is possible to create these sounds with it (it is a sampler and not a rompler). Jordan even used the Triton for solo concerts.

i don't think the music is very enjoyable to listen to in itself, but i think his approach to how he replays it live is mad creative.

Bullshit. In 2004 there were no V-Synth GT at all, I think V-Synth XT neither.
