A gem of a film that is still 100% relevant today. Also valuable as a look at the way our parents (if you are aged 40-50) used to live. And one of Michael's best performances!
I'm an American in my 50s and have not watched many movies over the years, especially those churned out by Holly wood. This film amazed me when I watched it so many years ago. I rented it and watched it with my son when he was a teenager, about 10 years ago. He was so very impressed by it too. We love how the story begins and ends with the little stray dog. "Alfie" 1966 is truly unique among films and what an excellent actor Michael Caine has always been!
I went into Blockbuster and asked if they had the original 'Alfie' and the guy said "duuuuuuhhh, there was an original? duuuuuhhh" Really, that's what he said.
Indeed! This film reminds me of many many good times when I lived in Cambridge, where I saw it and enjoyed it. That WAS fun. How lucky we were to live in that golden period of the 20th century: future had a future then...! The new version is a pale copy of "that special atmosphere" gone for ever. The "plot" has never changed however! Cockney Caine was very charming !

@thanks51 with an attitude like that, you'll never get the girl. You must not have paid the karmic price yet for that attitude. Some women, however, spend too much attention on their looks while avoiding their brains. Present governor of Arizona was one of these in her young life. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. I had it with dumbing down for the boys. I never respected anyone who wasn't at least as smart as me.
just listen to IT , it was all glu... i love this movie, i'm intersted to know if women are attracted to caine's character on the strength of the disrespect alone
the jude law remake is the best alfie film made that is after the michael caine one, der.. arnt i funny, i bet though some where on utube is a worst version than the jude law remake made by spoilt little drama school students, who even with daddy's money allowing them to usue any goal they choose, will disapear into obscurity, wow, i didnt realise how bitter and twisted i was. i wonder how many people when think of jude law will remember him for the piss poor remake over all his other films

Love Michael Caine... sexy eyes. Such a cad, things were so much more interesting when we were politically incorrect!

Loved the film, especially that there's no Hollywood style attempt to demonstrate any total transformation in Caine's character. He is what he is.
