I gotta msi gtx 560 ti twin frozr, an upgrade from the gtx 550 ti (which is very powerful for being [budget] to some people out there)..maxed out stalker and it looks very very nice, 100+ FPS most of the time..
It's so f*ing stupid when game developers make you have to shoot something 20 times to kill it. It's stupid as hell and it's a God damned cheap way to create a "challenge".STALKER is famous for this shit. You can plant 5 to 6 rounds right in peoples faces and MAYBE they'll stumble. But you have to eat because not eating would be unrealistic eventhough never once do you have to stop to take a dump or horde toilet paper along with the bandages. Why oh why do I love STALKER so much?
@stnwllstv I don't hope you think this guy is actually 'shooting' those mutants 20 times, because he clearly misses alot. he doesn't even use his sights when firing, and he is rather far away at some points.
@TeunvsT He may not be.It was a month ago but even so this game is full to the top with this way of doing things. It's time for game developers to move away from it.Having to pump 10 shotgun rounds point blank into a snork is stupid when one round will kill it deader'n hell. It's spine is even exposed. If they're going to add certain elements(eating) because it's "realistic" it's stupid to add another element that is so completely UNrealistic and call it challenging.
@littledub0918 I don't know about THIS one but it oughta play Shadow of Chernobyl,(the 1st STALKER)on about medium.Just make sure you turn off anything running in the background. If you have Trend Micro dump it.Trend Micro can wreck your cpu usage with some PC games....if you didn't already know.Google "system requirements lab".They have a program that'll read your system and tell you whether or not you can play a great many games.
@simpsoncheat well If you the real Stalker you wont be traveling alone in Zone. You need some one to watch your back. But ok if you dont like to be with some one at least you should not travel in zone when its dark. that's why this game is just stupid.
@simpsoncheat Metro 2033 is based(loosely) on a book called Metro 2033.It has nothing to do with copying STALKER and it is in no way similar to it except that there are mutants in it.Surely you won't say any game with mutants is a STALKER knockoff. There are a couple references to "Stalker's" but they're in a mostly different context. What makes you think Metro is based on STALKER?
@simpsoncheat What difference does that make?Lot's of guys that used to design for Ford now design for Chevy-doesn't make Chevy a Ford ripoff.I didn't know that but it doesn't seen to matter.People apply what they learn at previous jobs in their new jobs all the time but hat doesn't amount to copying.Didn't you know there was a book? There are STALKER books too.
@leanlifter sir, metro 2033 is based on a romance, that's the reason why it is on rails. yes, stalker deserves more attention from the media. i love the stalker saga, metro and stalker are both great games imho, it's just that stalker is too much underrated. maybe because of the fact that it is only for pc, when metro is multiplatform. the problem is that the media pays attention only on multiplatform games or super hyped games. stalker is none of the two unfortunately, but a great game.
no offence for fans but for me this graphic is rly low and never impress me at all. No offence but this rly sux even on max, its look like graphic 5 years before...
Call of Pripyat's Graphics didnt impress me at all. everything looks like jello when i max it out. i prefer COP on high with static lighting. it actaully looks better on lower settings! LOL
@leanlifter Well. "Greater" is subjective. I prefer stalker, too, as I like sandbox games. Just saying that Metro isn't a ripoff at all. It's still a great game, especially for the $5 I paid for it on Gamersgate. :)
@leanlifter It isn't a rip off game. It's based on a book, just like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is. They're similar worlds, yes. That's because the books are similar.
@leanlifter well Metro 2033 was more widely available to new players that dint have time to put time into stalker. plus, metro 2033 focuses on smaller areas so that they could max out effects and all that bullshit + theres a new metro coming out in winter and its gone be sweet. plus. metro feels so much better to play and is much more tactical than stalker will ever be with its Shitty AI. i love stalker. but Nah
@leanlifter Ouch I bought a GTX 570 :/ I guess once it gets to behind for games which probably going to be in 3-4 years I settle for a AMD which is what I really wanted and use the GTX 570 for dedicated Physx/Cuda. I noticed in The Witcher 2 it had a lot of DX11 features in DX9 in it I remember looking at a video I saw the ground and said wow they really used tessellation and HDR well then I figured out it was DX11 and I was like HOLY SHIT!
@leanlifter Yes DX9 is great like The Witcher 2 but knowing that if it were DX11 it could look even better if you were to take advantage of it. Well Nvidia is making more revenue then AMD and they pay devs like with Rocksteady to make AMD users get shitty performance when their cards are detected and disable AA feature in Batman AA and forcing them to use the catalyst which consumes more power.
@leanlifter I find it sad that were going to have to wait for next gen consoles so multiplat devs take advantage of Dx11 as average. But I remember looking at a steam survey saying most of the steam users have XP or maybe that was somewhere else. Nvidia and AMD should stop trying to kill each other and fund devs to take advantage of PC tech like with Crysis and the sadly cancelled first party title for PC Project Offset. I'd also like too see some of the tech demos/benchmarks become games.
@leanlifter Isn't windows XP also holding back PC's potential since it seems they are the majority are using it and XP only uses DX9. Devs target them so they don't get left out but I guess DICE is saying F U to them and focused on only DX10 and 11 for BF3. Mediocre games also hold back the PC because they suffer from poor sales and devs decide to use the piracy excuse when really they used lil effort as possible and slapped a $60 price tag on it.
@watashiomite the most probable cause would be FRAPS. In most cases it brings the FPS down a noticeable amount (which is why you sometimes see FPS showcase videos recorded by camera instead of FRAPS). Also, if he switched off Tessellation, he'd get better overall FPS as well with this card.
He could get it to be completely lag-free by turning it down to console-level graphics with that PC, but that's not the purpose of this video:P
@leanlifter I don't see why Metro 2033 is a rip off game. I mean I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro 2033 a bunch. They're both atmospheric games. 2033 is also on PC. STALKER never got a lot of attention from the media because it was made by a small company from Kyiv, Ukraine, and they didn't do a lot of advertising either to "get out" there. Not only that Metro 2033 game had got a good mount of attention cause it's based off an actual book named Metro 2033 (duh) which was very popular.
@CaptSanderson If you look Metro 2033 and Stalker (i have both games) you will see and hear that it has the same engine and sounds and it is made from the same company THQ. It is quite similar to Stalker but Metro is more linear not as Stalker that you can do a lot of things and the way you like. I love Stalker and Metro feels almost the same. Metro uses the same formula that worked fine with Stalker that´s why people say that it is a rip-off.
@Foxiol Uh I'm pretty sure that THQ only helped on Shadow of chernobyl, and the main comp[any that creates the stalker series and metro and GSC game world, but yeah they are very alike.
feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just going off of what I think is right.
DX11 has a shit ton more than tesselation dumbass...That wasn't even true tesselation on DX9...DX11 has true tesselation and looks 10x better than this...But this game isn't a good example for tesselation..Go look at demos and then you will see...Retard
@KilluaXIII not exactly... it just takes hell of a card for all the tesselating and dynamic lights ... its definitely not "Money for nothing" as you called it!
@TheMaximisch Today average gaming PC can handle proper tessellation and dynamic lighting with ease. The only problem is most developers aren't making proper Dx 11 models. Having high detail models and adding even more unwanted polygon isn't the solution.
@KilluaXIII tesselation is for circular objects like round columns and pipes and such, exponentially multiplying the number of surfaces, making them look much rounder
@CCzeslaw9117 i think stalker COP uses tessellation only on characters. what u can see on bricks is steep parallax mapping, which is included in COP and CS as well.
@profile1 So are you trying to say LURK doesn't look better than DX11 CoP? Because you'd be wrong either way, so it looks like you're just sperglordin' on me.
@SnakeTheFox Texture wise yes, LURK is better by leaps and bounds than vanilla, but as I said I'm not to keen on the bloom and oversaturation on LURK.
@profile1 I don't really care for bloom as well, but either way what I said holds true. Texture-wise Lurk on DX9 looks better than CoP on DX11, I just found that humorous enough to point it out.
@profile1 I don't really care for bloom as well, but either way what I said holds true. Texture-wise Lurk on DX9 looks better than CoP on DX11, I just found that humorous enough to point it out.
@leanlifter bum? some of us are very much skint, but are still able to build a high end enthusiast gaming rig for under 1.5k, that can play this game smoothly at highest settings, so portability; no, but power; most definitely. and as for research, some of us know what were on about already, and don't look up everything on google.
@leanlifter although i never played this game ive been looking into it for a while and looks extremely good mix of alot of great games i just got into pc gaming not long ago but im srry metro 2033 was seriously the worst game i think ive ever played new gen a friend of mine bought it and since i wanted to play it so bad was nice enough to let me borrow it for a week..............i played it for 2 days and give it back he tried it himself and ended up returning it b/c he agreed it was shit
The facts state you're wasting your money. I also find it incredibly amusing that you accuse me (once again with baseless assumptions) of trying to be intellectual and then proclaim yourself to be some super system builder who knows better. Pathetic. You can keep your crappy gaming laptops all you like, I don't care, meanwhile I'll be using my desktop running x2 as good for half the price.
Lmao, what a weak comeback that you must insult my financial situation instead of debating the topic ;) That if nothing else is an admission of failure on your part, very sad. I didn't even mention whether or not I could afford to buy one or not - you're just making more assumptions. This sort of fallacious reasoning doesn't lend credit to your initial argument, it only makes it seem more dubious when you're willing to be a moron.
Nonsense. My computer is better than the G73, thanks very much baseless assumption, but even if it wasn't I could as you yourself said build a far superior desktop for around $900, even around $600 to be honest.
Half of what you pay for a 'gaming laptop' is the portability, which is something that's largely irrelevant to gaming itself. You're probably just getting defensive because you bought one and are suffering cognitive dissonance in trying to justify your position.
@leanlifter It's cheaper to buy a all new PC in Denmark, since we always got the newest technology installed.. And by the way, I bought a laptop instead which can run every new game at high settings.
Yes, well, that laptop costs you around $2200 from a quick price check. I can tell you right now I could build a far superior desktop for the same price.
I'm not saying gaming laptops dont exist or dont work, they just aren't a great option if you actually care about how much money you're spending, or have any plans to play future games on them at which time you'll need to buy a whole new laptop as an 'upgrade'.
@leanlifter I'd say the only problem here is you are a robot because apparently the objects don't represent what they are supposed to be well enough for you.
People who say that these graphics aren't ENOUGH to get you immersed into the game itself obviously need a plugin called "Imagination".
I pity how much a someone has to work in order to please you.
@thedragonb0y: No, it wasn't. Some of the Stalker team left to form 4A games who made Metro 2033. GSC Gameworld still exist and are working on the next Stalker game.
I've seen plenty of laptops claiming 'top gaming ability' whilst having onboard graphics. Just go look through a magazine; they all have one specific important part of the computer excluded from their list normally.
I guess the real issue I have with laptops though is that you can't really customize them/upgrade, at least not anywhere nearly as easily. Often it's cheaper to buy a new one - not that THAT is at all cheap either.
That is likely just a result of that game not needing a lot of CPU power. I run all my games on an Amd quadcore 2.21ghz CPU and it does not struggle - at all - in any of them. Some more than others, but these days the barrier for performance seems to be more centered in GPU performance.
Besides, 'gaming laptop' is just a gimmick title to rip more money out of people. They run hot, run out of batteries quick, cost more than they should, most miss out important parts (iG), etc.
Ugh, I am getting really low fps in stalker cop with my radeon hd 6970! It specially happens when i'm looking in the direction of the big ship with all of the stalkers! Any idea how to fix this?
@lordcedrik4 Make sure your monitor cable is connected to the video card, not the motherboard. Also, make sure that the card is firmly seated in the slot, that the power cables are connected properly, and that it's not on x8 mode. Oh, and update your drivers.
@akamwar hahaha dude no offense but you have a pc with this specs and you dont know if you can play on it ? :) most people with a pc like that know what it can handle or not :)
@akamwar :P wow, nice config. It would rape this game at that res, but you could overclock the i7 to a at least 4.0 ghz (one guy got it to 5 with stock cooling), and you could unlock the 6950's and give them 6970 performance
does anyone know, why the weather in my game directly gets normal when i get the message that the blowout is over (german, 1.6.02)? its kind of annoying.
and i also didnt notice any volumetric smoke/light during the game, and now im finished-.-
I can run this game max graphics with 1280x720 (I think thats the resolution i play on) and get 60-70 frames with Ati radeon hd 4650 512 mb, intel pentium 4 3.00 ghz processor and 1024 mb ram, until i get into town then my frames drop to about...10 and when i get really far away from town they stick at about 20.
The main thing that makes people think this game has bad graphics are the guns. Let's be honest, the guns look horrific compared to other first person shooters.
@MrSerkra He's in an area where he has already killed everyone, also this game delivers more of a scary, tense atmosphere as apposed to a hectic one like most modern shooters do.
god! those who argues stalker has shit graphic, go get a book teaching how to define good graphic! or learn it your selves like most of us who know it, stalker doesnt have shit graphic, it can even compare to the ones Cry engine has! (im gonna make a controvesial statments, XBOX 360 players tend to bitch about graphic because they think consoles have the best graphic)
i have a question can i max this out i have a Intel pentium 4 oced @ 3.0ghz(stock cooling), 512 RAM, Windows Me 32-bit, and a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 128Mb... planning to buy a new AGP video card
@Vire70 Wish I could play this but my current laptop is so shit. Will an MSI GT640 handle this on medium/high with AA on? It uses i7 720, GTS 250m graphics card and I am thinking of getting one.
@Vire70 A desktop won't fit my room, in fact I think a desktop will be too loud. I dunno if you can make STALKER run in DX10, if its able to I would run it 800x600 on medium with no AA.
@Vire70 Depends on how many fans it has. If its gaming probably around 4 or 5, when on full load the fans will be on all the time, might annoy my parents.
@Vire70 The 200 series GeForce cards are just DX10, the 300 series was 10.1 and the 400 and 500 series are 11. They were a little late to the party compared to AMD/ATI, but 10.1 was more of a bug fix and 11 is more of an optimisation release with a few extra features like tessellation and direct compute. I run this on high on a 260, runs pretty damn well too.
@Miguelb772 You know most people don't usually judge a came only by its graphics, all stalker games are great and atmospheric and you can't just say that duuh this game doesn't look so good so it must suck.
@MrPartypooper I wasnt talking about the graphics only mate.. the gameplay and stuff doesnt look good to me , its my opinion.. you might think it looks amazing, I respect that... not my kind of game just ;)
what i don't get is why people complain about how shit the graphics in the stalker series looks.
they aren't shit, they're good. it's an art direction style. metro 2033 uses the same engine and a different style and is equally as good looking.
it's gritty and battered and blown through because that's what the game is like when you play it. it reflects how the game functions, it compliments it entirely. it's not some arcadey shooter like MW2 or halo, it's fucking S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
@Calistro i say that stalker have bad graphics cause i have a HD 5870 and if i put the lighint in directX 11 and i put all settings maxed out i see flowers spawning 5 meters in front of me
@Calistro the reason people complain is its a dx10 game. comparing the games settign to the quality of the game engine is a new one for me (dont quite get how a wrecked a brocken shitty world setting is an excuse to use shitty graphics?) having better graphics would lead to a more imersive game anyway isnt that what everyone wants, and metro having amasing graphics despite being on the same engine simply highligts incompitence and lazy texture and model creation during the games development.
@Stranger01751 If that's so then why do I get immersed in games like Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall, System Shock 1 and 2, Nosferatu (SNES and wrath of malachi), and even 3D Monster Maze for the ZX81? Graphics aren't ESSENTIAL to an immersible world and even then this game looks real enough. It's called conservation of flashy effects and modeling to create a world that resembles real life and I say they did a decent job. Remember "graphics" are not manufactured from hardware, it's created by ARTISTS.
@thedragonb0y you get imersed in those games because the gameplay and graphics were both maxed out to the highest standard for the time (basicaly making them a balanced game and any balanced game is fun to play) with stalker we have a game that wants players to be imersed in mysterious real life scenarious created using a wide range of intuatave game mechanics (high standard) but shrouding them in drasticaly low quality textures which means your distracted. imagine if the game had metro gphx.
@Stranger01751 Again that makes no sense. How was I immersed in games like System Shock 1 and 2 (check them out if you don't know them). This is also what I mean by people not having enough imagination. Remember being a kid, picking up a stick and imagining that it's a sword? Visually it's just a stick, but by using your imagination you still were able to have lots of fun. When I look at a game like Minecraft all I see are a bunch of blocks with textures, yet I still believe I'm in a cave.
@thedragonb0y it does make sense to have a balanced game. and sadly despite what we all want to belive, a game shouldnt require imagination to fill in the developers gaps, if anything imagination should be left to the rpg side of the game imagining who your character realy is ect. Minecraft is a well balanced game on a similar plane with games like daggerfall (meaning graphics dont distract you fom fun simple game echanics) sadly like i tried to explain erlier this isnt the same for stalker.
@Stranger01751 This is the saddest generation of Gamers I have ever seen.
Probably why it's never good to make games for adults. What is your concept of balanced game in design and logic? how do you compare or connect something that doesn't have the same concept? Not to mention like I said when it comes to imagination I'm not saying the entire game is imaginary, I'm saying you're letting your eyes do all the work. And even then you're saying this is a bad looking game?
@thedragonb0y my concept of a balanced game involves pairs of variables affection each other. graphics are linked to gameplaymechanics, gameplay mechanics is linked to physics and physics are linked to graphics. if you imagine these are put into a triangle, each one being a side, the more effort(or less) affects the other sides. the 3 variales are linked and it appers that the gameplay in stalker is highly out of proportion compared ot the grphx and pysx.
@Stranger01751 One of the reasons why you aren't a game designer. Okay then, what are the physics of a computer chess game? What are the physics of 3D Monster Maze? What are the physics of Pacman? Those don't even have physics in the sense you speak of. So are they way out of proportion?
And what do you mean the GAMEPLAY is way out of proportion to graphics and physics? saying that sucks now?
(because the physics and graphics are pretty darn good from a designer's standpoint and a gamer's)
@thedragonb0y in the non physics games you mention it only a case of gamplay/graphics. And by saying the gameplay was out of proportion the graphics dosent mean i made a u turn and said the gamplay mehanics, there just overshadowed by by a poor anchoring of bad pysx and grphx
@Stranger01751 Dude, just stop. (non physics games? seriously?) You obviously have no idea when it comes to Formal and Dramatic elements and are yet again another "gamer reviewer" who thinks he know everything about games and what it comes to MAKING a good game from a controller (or you haven't taken Game Theory and Mechanics yet). I'll tell you, it's not what your thinking.
Might I remind you your talking to a college student of Game Design and you're making me cry.
@Stranger01751 My point was the designers did a great job working on this game and it seems you might not understand how much skill and practice it takes to even make a simple chair look right in a game world (Of course art is never finished, but they are on a deadline remember?).
Just look up 3D modeling and texturing tuts to see what it takes to make ONE element of this entire game to see what I'm talking about.
I appreciate their years hard work on these game, they did a fantastic job.
@thedragonb0y i know it takes a long tome to moddel and texture each element of a game and code it as well, maybe that is the main problem with this game. instead of releasing 2 games over X amount of time perhaps they should have just devoted all that time into making 1 well rounded game sequel.
@Stranger01751 Obviously you DON'T know. Let me give you an idea, 1st they have to have an approved design doc, developing an engine takes usually 2 years, development takes usually a year or more.
Doom 3, that game people called a piece of shit, took ID SIX YEARS to make. and these guys DON'T set a deadline for themselves.
Obviously you aren't getting how freaking hard it is to work with your limits AND the limits of your software (which they have to PAY for everything) AND please people.
@thedragonb0y once again you have missunderstood me, i never said dont have a deadline i said they should have combined the development times of clear sky and pipryat and foccussed on 1 tile. they also didnt need to develop a new engine, simply modify and exspand on the game engines limits. And DOOM 3 is a cult classic, one of the furthest things from a failure?
@Stranger01751 okay, I guess I really just need to make a summery since you don't like to read
A game's design usually doesn't appeal to everyone. Still, there is a large difference between and opinion and a fact. The fact is, they went for an interpretation to imitate the real world visually. Given that proportion, lighting, and structure match fairly well I'd say they did a good job.
That's all I'm saying because the subject keeps changing and making us flood this video with comments.
@Calistro Not to mention I think people are really ingredient about everything in a game too. Take it from my point of view. Do any of those guys know what it's like to model even something as simple as a generator or a character? How much attention to detail, proportion, ect all done with strip modeling or in something like Mudbox? I'd say the 3D model artists did a FANTASTIC job. This generation of gamers makes me sick with their lack of imagination and GOD FORSAKEN picky attitude.
@Calistro Stalker actually uses the ODE physics engine, and Metro uses multi-platform 4A Engine. Go look those up in Wikipedia to check out the differences.
i feel like its too boring for me. The graphics are good but they give it a bland feeling and the free roaming doesnt seem like it would hook me in like fallout 3 did.
I love this game !! Hey dude, i found a plane in Jupiter (yanov) map and i "unlocked" a code or some shit, but now i don't know what to do :P Do u? it's near a fire anomaly.
why is the fov so bad?

I think if Metro 2033 was more polished, it would be better. but as is, stalker takes the cake

STALKER's an extremely unoptimized game, mostly because the X-Ray engine sucks.
So don't get bummed out if your computer runs it like crap.

jyeager24 6 months ago
@leanlifter no it's not >_> it's crappy overall... and Metro 2033 gets all the praise it deserves for being an amazing game...
Equilibrumuvx 6 months ago
@leanlifter Well. "Greater" is subjective. I prefer stalker, too, as I like sandbox games. Just saying that Metro isn't a ripoff at all. It's still a great game, especially for the $5 I paid for it on Gamersgate. :)
Droogie128 7 months ago
@leanlifter It isn't a rip off game. It's based on a book, just like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is. They're similar worlds, yes. That's because the books are similar.
Droogie128 7 months ago

Daxter609 8 months ago
@Daxter609 DX9* at last part typo.
Daxter609 8 months ago
@leanlifter Yes DX9 is great like The Witcher 2 but knowing that if it were DX11 it could look even better if you were to take advantage of it. Well Nvidia is making more revenue then AMD and they pay devs like with Rocksteady to make AMD users get shitty performance when their cards are detected and disable AA feature in Batman AA and forcing them to use the catalyst which consumes more power.
Daxter609 8 months ago
@leanlifter I find it sad that were going to have to wait for next gen consoles so multiplat devs take advantage of Dx11 as average. But I remember looking at a steam survey saying most of the steam users have XP or maybe that was somewhere else. Nvidia and AMD should stop trying to kill each other and fund devs to take advantage of PC tech like with Crysis and the sadly cancelled first party title for PC Project Offset. I'd also like too see some of the tech demos/benchmarks become games.
Daxter609 8 months ago
@leanlifter Isn't windows XP also holding back PC's potential since it seems they are the majority are using it and XP only uses DX9. Devs target them so they don't get left out but I guess DICE is saying F U to them and focused on only DX10 and 11 for BF3. Mediocre games also hold back the PC because they suffer from poor sales and devs decide to use the piracy excuse when really they used lil effort as possible and slapped a $60 price tag on it.
Daxter609 8 months ago
@leanlifter Aren't the creators of Metro 2033 former employees of GSC.
Daxter609 8 months ago
@watashiomite the most probable cause would be FRAPS. In most cases it brings the FPS down a noticeable amount (which is why you sometimes see FPS showcase videos recorded by camera instead of FRAPS). Also, if he switched off Tessellation, he'd get better overall FPS as well with this card.
He could get it to be completely lag-free by turning it down to console-level graphics with that PC, but that's not the purpose of this video:P
RindraRado 8 months ago
Lol at all the people saying its a rip off.
Implying every game hasn't been a copy of every game since the 90's.
Stalker's no exception.
japgatjames 9 months ago
@leanlifter I don't see why Metro 2033 is a rip off game. I mean I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro 2033 a bunch. They're both atmospheric games. 2033 is also on PC. STALKER never got a lot of attention from the media because it was made by a small company from Kyiv, Ukraine, and they didn't do a lot of advertising either to "get out" there. Not only that Metro 2033 game had got a good mount of attention cause it's based off an actual book named Metro 2033 (duh) which was very popular.
CaptSanderson 9 months ago
@CaptSanderson If you look Metro 2033 and Stalker (i have both games) you will see and hear that it has the same engine and sounds and it is made from the same company THQ. It is quite similar to Stalker but Metro is more linear not as Stalker that you can do a lot of things and the way you like. I love Stalker and Metro feels almost the same. Metro uses the same formula that worked fine with Stalker that´s why people say that it is a rip-off.
Stalker is the best no doubt.
Foxiol 8 months ago
@Foxiol Uh I'm pretty sure that THQ only helped on Shadow of chernobyl, and the main comp[any that creates the stalker series and metro and GSC game world, but yeah they are very alike.

i played that game on a 4890 in dx9 mode and the "tessellated" bricks looked just like in this video here....
almost everything that came after dx9c is microsoft's scheme to get money for nothing.
i'm sure dx11 has potential to look great but it takes skill to bring that out and skill is a rare thing

TheMaximisch 6 months ago
@TheMaximisch Today average gaming PC can handle proper tessellation and dynamic lighting with ease. The only problem is most developers aren't making proper Dx 11 models. Having high detail models and adding even more unwanted polygon isn't the solution.
DarkAnimeWindSlayer 6 months ago
@KilluaXIII Not to mention huge drop in framerate.
YoshiHDify 5 months ago
@KilluaXIII tesselation is for circular objects like round columns and pipes and such, exponentially multiplying the number of surfaces, making them look much rounder

@leanlifter bum? some of us are very much skint, but are still able to build a high end enthusiast gaming rig for under 1.5k, that can play this game smoothly at highest settings, so portability; no, but power; most definitely. and as for research, some of us know what were on about already, and don't look up everything on google.

Vire70 10 months ago
@leanlifter
Vire70 10 months ago
@leanlifter Fallout was a bad example, I thoroughly enjoy it too. I was just naming mainstreams off the top of my head.
piehero126 10 months ago
@leanlifter
Vire70 10 months ago
@leanlifter It's cheaper to buy a all new PC in Denmark, since we always got the newest technology installed.. And by the way, I bought a laptop instead which can run every new game at high settings.
TwoTriori 10 months ago
@leanlifter
My primary point was that desktops are better money for value for gaming. And you agreed.
I can acknowledge that they have gotten better though.
Vire70 10 months ago
@leanlifter
Vire70 10 months ago
@leanlifter I'd say the only problem here is you are a robot because apparently the objects don't represent what they are supposed to be well enough for you.
People who say that these graphics aren't ENOUGH to get you immersed into the game itself obviously need a plugin called "Imagination".
I pity how much a someone has to work in order to please you.
thedragonb0y 10 months ago
@leanlifter but if stalker got the attention it deserved, it would turn into mainstream shit like COD and RESIDENT EVIL and FALLOUT etc.
piehero126 10 months ago

I find that the animations are pretty bad. I thought at first sight that this was a game from 2006, sorry.
FRURMELLL 11 months ago
@leanlifter
Personally I'd never bother gaming on a laptop.
Vire70 11 months ago
@leanlifter Dude, Metro 2033 was made by the same company that made the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
thedragonb0y 11 months ago
@leanlifter

@Vire70 Wish I could play this but my current laptop is so shit. Will an MSI GT640 handle this on medium/high with AA on? It uses i7 720, GTS 250m graphics card and I am thinking of getting one.
GLaDOSPulse 1 year ago
@GLaDOSPulse
To be honest, I'd recommend you get a desktop computer and not a laptop if you plan on playing a high end game like this - especially in DX11.
The GTS 250m should be able to play this game in at least medium graphics relatively well. However it doesn't have support for DX11 (only 10.1 max)
The i7 720 is not that great for gaming, though. If it is the 1.6 ghz model, anyway.
Other things to note for buying a new rig: amount (and type) of RAM & amount of HDD space.
Vire70 1 year ago
@Vire70 A desktop won't fit my room, in fact I think a desktop will be too loud. I dunno if you can make STALKER run in DX10, if its able to I would run it 800x600 on medium with no AA.
The i7 in the MSI I found is 2.8ghz.
GLaDOSPulse 1 year ago
@GLaDOSPulse
I see. In that case it ought to be more than sufficient.
Why would a Desktop be too loud? Mine is no louder than a laptop, if anything it's quieter.

@Vire70 Depends on how many fans it has. If its gaming probably around 4 or 5, when on full load the fans will be on all the time, might annoy my parents.
GLaDOSPulse 1 year ago
@Vire70 The 200 series GeForce cards are just DX10, the 300 series was 10.1 and the 400 and 500 series are 11. They were a little late to the party compared to AMD/ATI, but 10.1 was more of a bug fix and 11 is more of an optimisation release with a few extra features like tessellation and direct compute. I run this on high on a 260, runs pretty damn well too.

what i don't get is why people complain about how shit the graphics in the stalker series looks.
they aren't shit, they're good. it's an art direction style. metro 2033 uses the same engine and a different style and is equally as good looking.
it's gritty and battered and blown through because that's what the game is like when you play it. it reflects how the game functions, it compliments it entirely. it's not some arcadey shooter like MW2 or halo, it's fucking S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

@Calistro i say that stalker have bad graphics cause i have a HD 5870 and if i put the lighint in directX 11 and i put all settings maxed out i see flowers spawning 5 meters in front of me
gmk120 1 year ago
@Calistro the reason people complain is its a dx10 game. comparing the games settign to the quality of the game engine is a new one for me (dont quite get how a wrecked a brocken shitty world setting is an excuse to use shitty graphics?) having better graphics would lead to a more imersive game anyway isnt that what everyone wants, and metro having amasing graphics despite being on the same engine simply highligts incompitence and lazy texture and model creation during the games development.
Stranger01751 1 year ago
@Stranger01751 If that's so then why do I get immersed in games like Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall, System Shock 1 and 2, Nosferatu (SNES and wrath of malachi), and even 3D Monster Maze for the ZX81? Graphics aren't ESSENTIAL to an immersible world and even then this game looks real enough. It's called conservation of flashy effects and modeling to create a world that resembles real life and I say they did a decent job. Remember "graphics" are not manufactured from hardware, it's created by ARTISTS.
thedragonb0y 1 year ago
@thedragonb0y you get imersed in those games because the gameplay and graphics were both maxed out to the highest standard for the time (basicaly making them a balanced game and any balanced game is fun to play) with stalker we have a game that wants players to be imersed in mysterious real life scenarious created using a wide range of intuatave game mechanics (high standard) but shrouding them in drasticaly low quality textures which means your distracted. imagine if the game had metro gphx.
Stranger01751 1 year ago
@Stranger01751 Again that makes no sense. How was I immersed in games like System Shock 1 and 2 (check them out if you don't know them). This is also what I mean by people not having enough imagination. Remember being a kid, picking up a stick and imagining that it's a sword? Visually it's just a stick, but by using your imagination you still were able to have lots of fun. When I look at a game like Minecraft all I see are a bunch of blocks with textures, yet I still believe I'm in a cave.
thedragonb0y 1 year ago
@thedragonb0y it does make sense to have a balanced game. and sadly despite what we all want to belive, a game shouldnt require imagination to fill in the developers gaps, if anything imagination should be left to the rpg side of the game imagining who your character realy is ect. Minecraft is a well balanced game on a similar plane with games like daggerfall (meaning graphics dont distract you fom fun simple game echanics) sadly like i tried to explain erlier this isnt the same for stalker.
Stranger01751 1 year ago
@Stranger01751 This is the saddest generation of Gamers I have ever seen.
Probably why it's never good to make games for adults. What is your concept of balanced game in design and logic? how do you compare or connect something that doesn't have the same concept? Not to mention like I said when it comes to imagination I'm not saying the entire game is imaginary, I'm saying you're letting your eyes do all the work. And even then you're saying this is a bad looking game?
thedragonb0y 1 year ago
@thedragonb0y my concept of a balanced game involves pairs of variables affection each other. graphics are linked to gameplaymechanics, gameplay mechanics is linked to physics and physics are linked to graphics. if you imagine these are put into a triangle, each one being a side, the more effort(or less) affects the other sides. the 3 variales are linked and it appers that the gameplay in stalker is highly out of proportion compared ot the grphx and pysx.
Stranger01751 1 year ago

@thedragonb0y you could have said that erlier then i wouldnt have had to use shity termnology to try and get my points across to you.

Obviously you aren't getting how freaking hard it is to work with your limits AND the limits of your software (which they have to PAY for everything) AND please people.
thedragonb0y 1 year ago

@thedragonb0y i guess well leave it at that then.

@Foxpoop what does the x-ray engine do though? The developers themselves have said it runs on x-ray.

@Calistro AFAIK Metro 2033 uses a different engine.

@Calistro
I think the graphics look fair enough.. but the animations could' ve been MUCH better.

i feel like its too boring for me.

Stop spamming my videos with troll comments! If you argue you are a troll. Keep discussions about hardware and the game please.
