I know this is probably blasphemy, and will take a lot of grief for this, but I prefer the original cut to the Donner cut. Maybe it was because I was still a kid when the original came out, and it's what I'm accustomed to. But I prefer the Eiffel Tower opening. The original Metropolis street fight. Maybe just the whole movie over the Donner cut. But hey, that's just me. Great edit, and video. :)
I know many people prefer the Donner cut, but the sad fact is that it is down two action sequences on the Lester one. ...Which is why I feel a bit unfulfilled watching it.
Now my question is, how do you integrate this with the Donner Cut beginning, with Lois and Clark assigned by Perry White to go to Niagara Falls (NOT Paris)?
Hey Gp! There's really no conflict between Lois' Paris assignment and the Niagara assignment. Just like in the original S2, the Niagara assignment follows the Paris job. Actually has nothing to do with the Donner Cut. The only issue is choosing between Lois' jump out the DP window, and her jump into Niagara. In my new cut, I will be choosing the Niagara jump. It's handled better I think, than the DP window jump.
@onekingprods the DP windo jump was actually suppose to be in the original superman II but the producers sacked donner so thats y there is the niagra jump.
Excellent job with this re-edit, none of that whole business of Lois trying to spell "pulitzer prize", or the 'stairs' bit with the translation guide: unnecessary comic relief for what's supposed to be a *tense* scene of Paris almost being leveled by a hydrogen bomb, planted by terrorists! Oh, and it looks better in HQ!
hi! I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU IM ABOUT THE BIGGEST SUPERMAN FAN YOU WILL EVER MEET! YOU DID A GREAT JOB! I HAVENT SEEN SOME OF THOSE SCENES SINCE I WAS ALITTLE KID ON ABC! I ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT GREAT JOB!!! CHECK OUT MY COLLECTION! YOUWILL SEE WHAT I MEAN ABOUT FAN!! ITS UNDER SUPERMAN THE COLLECTION AND AGAIN GREAT JOB!
Good editing. Very well done. This is what Lester should have done to add the tension. When I first saw this film, it always thought that the editing was done very half assed and not a lot of thought put into it. As a movie goer, I want tension where there should be at certain points. Once again, very good editing job and thanks for cutting the dictionary scene(always hated that).
You're welcome. traditionally I have a love/hate relationship w/ Lester's cut of 2. Some great moments but some moments that could have been so much better if he had only had a better script or editing. The Paris scene I loved as a child, but since i first heard about Donner's intended rocket scene - i've found it harder & harder to watch the Paris scene without gritting my teeth, & the silly Lois antics are a large part of it. Thanks for making her Lois again! Can't wait to see your cut!
Geroge, the goal is to restore verisimilitude to SII, so that it truly feels like a continuation of STM. Most of what will be used is Donner's material, but Lester had some nice moments that really help to tell the story. So, like others, this will be an effort to bring it together, and make it feel SPECIAL, particularly for devoted fans.
Wow - nice work man - you've managed to cut through the scene with the precision of a surgeon, excising the damaged tissue, without harming the patient. Not only did you streamline this puppy with your editing - but Lois is far more resourceful now that cuts right to sneaking in and she's no longer just repeating the lines in disbelief. Thank you for cutting out the french to english dictionary! based just on this cut - i'd love to see what you'd do to the whole film!
Hey George, thanks for such a cool review. I love the "surgeon" analogy. I'm very encouraged by that. This is actually one of the new scenes that will be featured in the Verisimilitude Cut. If you would like to see what some of the other scenes will look like, I encourage you to have a look at "Lois loses her memory", "Brand new opening credits", and "An alternate look at Supes depowering." I'm working very hard to make this something that you'll want to watch again and again.
Thanks very much, Oktober. Paris can be a really good, exciting kick-off to this movie, and I am confident that this sequence will prove that. Part 2 is coming real soon!
Thanks, Darth. Since posting, I've eliminated the DP est. shot, and just cut straight to Perry's office, while allowing the music cue to play out. It's cleaner and keeps the pace going well.

This editing job is way better then the real film. Keep it up. At this rate you can make Lesters Verison not suck so bad.
