  • Underrated masterpiece for both friden and stanne.

  • IMPRESIONANTE

SOLO LA BELLEZA DE ESTE TEMA OSCURECE TODAS LAS LUCES.

  • very good album and song... :)

  • So no, no they are not pioneers, they are simply creators of goteburg metal

  • You know where did goteburg metal start from...

Idiots writing about cannibal corpse and shit that has nothing to do with melodic metal

(fan of CC too) but realise that its this that created melodic metal as we know it.

  • I stare at a bolt of blazing gold phasing through the starlight into the unearthly darkness above as cosmos enters existence.

  • as a fellow said, skydancer is like floating in the space of emotions...

  • this song is very special!! it's beautiful and dark..!! DT never released an other album like this.. The Gallery it's a masterpiece but.. this album is a original dark masterpiece I think hehehe

  • Holy crap this is amazing

  • wonderful......

does s.o. know who the woman is?

  • @cromms Anna-Kaisa Avehall

  • @moody144 thank you :)

  • I have this album on CD and its awesome! Pure melodeath.

  • I fucking love this song and all but the vocals REALLY make me appreciate Stanne more...

  • @Shadowlit001 At this album Anders Friden from In Flames did the vocal duties. Stanne played Guitar and sang backing vocals :-)

  • @westvann

Yeah I meant that hearing Anders makes me like Stanne more lol

  • @Shadowlit001 Wops, sorry my mistake x] when i read your comment again saw that i misunderstood it , once again, sorry ;)

  • @westvann

No big deal, re-reading my comment I can see how it would be confusing lol

  • @Shadowlit001 why? anders's vocals here may be not the best of his career but they totally fit this album... his sounds dark and easy to listen to... he improved them with in flames i believe...

  • Listening Dark Tranquillity while you playing Heroes III!:D

    1.Best Melodic Death Metal

    2.Best game ever hehe

    Metal! \m/

  • I fucking love when Death Metal bands add clean female vocals.

  • Don't have a single idea what the lyrics are about.

  • @Louloudito Why A Bolt of Blazing Gold of course

  • any kind of death metal is just good to me from Cannibal Corpse to Death to In Flames. i am more of a Melodic brutal death metal fan. kinda like Deaths Human album. or Symbolic. but IF and DT are just beautiful. so fucking awesome.

  • They are from Gothenburg ( Göteborg ). West coast in Sweden.

  • why there's only 18.502

  • Anyone else liked this album more then The Gallery? The Gallery will always be a masterpiece but i prefer this, it just has an amazing atmosphere. I remember listening to this while waiting for my bus at 6AM when it's still dark and it's winter. Reminded me of the album art =)

  • @NO11YOU Right on, my favourite album from DT, and the absolute masterpiece of melodic death metal too in my opinion.

  • Anders Friden at his best !! <3 him

  • My goodness everyone pipe down and listen to the music. God-men wrote this!

  • @MarsBringerofWar19 "actulal" death metal=Morbid Angel, Deicide, the like

  • @4LL3VIL I'd have to agree with you on this one 3vil, this is definitely not death metal. Death metal is known for its brutality, but this is far too creative, melodic and progressive in my opinion. I'm not saying I don't like death metal, I love it, but this is a genre of its own if you ask me. Then again I don't really like labelling anything when it comes to music. BTW Morbid Angel is awesome.

  • @Brian3987 Back in the day everything with Death-style vocals was categorized as death metal. The actual category was Swedish (east coast) Melodic Death Metal. One of the most beautiful metal songs ever done.

  • @MarsBringerofWar19 Yes? Despite being "melodeath" these bands never were actual death metal.

  • @4LL3VIL This is still death metal. It's just melodic. It's like saying despite being "symphonic black metal" a band isn't actually black metal. Yes they are, it's called a subgenre, within a subgenre, with a subgenre.

  • @MarsBringerofWar19 Thanks man !

    Diverse, yet similar :D

  • Their best album, their best song.

  • I think Skydancer is the best DT album ever, too bad it's also their least known album.

  • dark tranquillity DARK TRANQUILLITY has and had been the best to melodic dead th metal.

  • for the 3rd time isn't the backing vocal on 1:35, Stanne?

  • Gracias, Lidia :)

  • dediacted for @Shimmer11

  • Raw screams and growls, that's Fridén in his prime.

  • Wow... just simply amazing, and only if the outro was longer... This is a TRUE masterpiece.

  • xdieromanticx212, you say why people have issues with in flames'? hahaha why?? man you myabe have trash in your ears, DT & IF pioneers??stfu ignorant.. DT & IF was first than Desultory?? or at the gates??? because in first instance they have a lotttt of inlfuence of "the red in the sky is ours" just hearing this song except the female voice, but in flames ati this time just sucks!, nothing can compare now with the jester race and subterranean lunar.... the new in flames discs suucks!!

  • 0 thumbs down, at least some people who know of music!!!

  • @MegistosZeys in the early of 90's this album was like a billboard hit!!!!!

  • This is back when melodeath was creative, original, and awesome. Now, melodeath is just wank.. very sad..

  • @XV100 dude try Insomnium they are quite new in the scene but they are awesome

  • @XV100

Most melodeath is just power metal now, with growling a la Children of Bodom, Kalmah, etc.

  • @jimjamjoeyjoejoe listen to insomnium, really recovers the oldschool melodeath

  • @spartannoob

    Already do, great band.

  • these guys have been around alot longer then 94 but still the same and still badass

  • You know why people flame each other alot on these vids? Because you're forgetting the LYRICS OF THE SONG WHICH ARE VERY VERY EPIC And there's nothing to discuss :)

  • grat song

  • im getting this for sure ^^ I can't believe Anders was on this record lol

  • I have enjoyed both bands since childhood.

  • That's just a way of saying, they sold their music for money !

  • Sadly many people love In Flames in front of DT !

I mean, In Flames has the style and originality, but DT has it too and they remained with it !

    Sadly In Flames didn't :(

  • in flames is the kind of band that always wants to do something new, leaving the rest behind them

  • i love both bands equally.

  • beautiful song

  • actually Friden was a hell of a vocalist, Shadow Duet is the ultimate proof he really mantained an incredible vocal performance allong with Stanne wich I think is the best growler ever

  • stanne are much better than friden...dt much better than in flamez....only old in flamez were good cuz they had stanne on vocalz and now they suck emo shit..dt for ever ;)

  • I think you cant compare Friden and Stanne. Stanne is the better live performer ( his voice is authentic) and Friden sing in a very difficult. I like both Bands, but they make different kinds of music, in Flames is my favourite one. But I also understand people who prefer DT =).

  • friden never had the same power behind his voice that stanne did, but i think this album has his best vocals of any album he has ever been on.

also, are the clean male vox in this song stanne's?

  • Stanne did all the male cleans on this album, except shadow duet, there it was Stefan Lindgren.

  • Personally, I think this voice is the coolest way to growl I ever heard, I try to learn from it, but I love Stannes growls in The Gallery aswell. About Friden - what do you think of his vocals in, for example the Whoracle album? I think its about as good.

  • for me, stanne just has the best growls out of any that i have heard, and for friden, i think after the jester race, everything until clayman is decent, but not as good as it used to be.

  • I'd say that back in the day (Colony/Clayman era), Friden did have the more powerful voice; his vocals on "Embody the Invisible" on "Clayman" are absolutely ferocious. Stanne's voice I've found less powerful, but more expressive and more soulful, which has its own, completely different merits. Certainly, though, I think each vocalist really suits their own band.

  • Imo Friden did best on Skydancer, whoracle and colony. He has some nice growls, I prefere Stanne tho because he sings more clearly and he really got an opera voice when singing his cleans.

  • I'd agree there. Maintaining a good clean voice while being able to scream well is really difficult to do. Friden's really wrecked his screaming in the newer albums; since he started doing full on cleans (not including those breathy whispers on "clayman") his screams have lost so much power. Whereas Stanne sings better, and his snarls are as gorgeous as ever. I'd actually say Stanne is one of the most talented vocalists in modern metal.

  • Agreed his vocals on colony are amazing.

  • @2351982 ammm when he sings clean he sounds weird, but i dont care he is the best at what he does and he does not sound like they are raping a ping like anders friden

  • i think friden was at his best in dark tranquillity while stanne did so at in flames lunar strain

  • When I listen to this album, it's hard for me to believe that I listen to metal album. It's far too good to be just metal. Skydancer is poetry, best poetry ever written by human hand. There aren't any "I smash your fucking head" or "I hate you lord" cliche phrases to satisfy dumbass metalheads who just sit in pubs, drink their beer and scream "emo sucks!!1!1!1!" to prove themselves how "brutal" they are. Skydancer is for intelligent people who want their music deep and meaningful.

  • i wholeheartely agee with you there. SKydancers a veyr unique melo death album :)

  • @lunarstrain100 It's so true. I'm definitely a metalhead but I want much higher quality lyrically than just lyrics about gore or wickedness or politics. A lot of those bands are awesome but Dark Tranquility is so above many of them lyrically.

  • Love this just got into Dark tranquility anybody know what album i should get?

  • this and The Gallery for sure

  • Skydancer is an amazing album to get. The Gallery aswell. Most of there albums are great, but skydancer and the gallery are just amazing

  • Muy buen tema , imborrables recuerdos...

  • Dark Tranquillity gives me the chills, Skydancer and The Gallery is so f*cking good that i had to log in to youtube just to share that sensation with people that know what I mean. I can't recall if I ever heard anything better!

  • Just for the record, you can say FUCK on YouTube lol.

  • Death Metal how it should be... So melodic... So touching... There are not many songs that include female vocals that clever.

  • anders fridén <3 In Flames <3Dark Tranquillity <3 Death Metal <3

  • Skydancer Its like floating in space of emotions

    Great Melodies

  • @noonelies4ever i couldnt agree more my friend

  • @noonelies4ever OMG this album is underrated imo. Albums like this and Lunar Strain

  • there is nothing like that first heavy yet soft, neoclassical yet classical while still heavy metal sound you hear, for me it was the guitar and in flames and bands like them with similar melody embody so much of what music means to me today

  • i dont get why people have such issues with in flames sorry that they came out in 94 way before all you metal fanboys got into your pig squeal shit, this is back when death metal had a good melody to it, and did not require high squeals and a jumbled mess of guitar/bass. in flames and dark tranquility were pioneers of death metal. they should be given just as much credit as testament and death. anyone care to disagree???

  • Swedish Death Metal had slight melody to it, but most of those bands are only considered Death Metal according to todays expectations.

American Death Metal is the type of DM that's devoid of melody.

I would give credit to Dark Tranquility for creating what would be Gothenburg metal sound instead of Death Metal, since they lacked that crunchy, lack of melody in their songs.

  • I do agree with you man

  • Issues? Do you mean the fact that they are closer today to being a metalcore and nu-metal band than to a melodic death metal band? That's a huge fucking issue especially for someone like me who first started listening to In Flames more than 10 years ago.

In Flames and Dark Tranquillity do get lots of credit. Testament plays a totally different genre and you can't compare the credit they get with IF and DT.

Death is superior to all of them and if anything, they deserve more credit.

  • Finally someone that teaches the "un- appreciators" of classic death metal. All this pig squeal stuff and that "Guitar Smorgasbord" (all In Flames fans know what I mean^^)...

  • @xdieromanticx212 Pioneers? Why yes, but not of death metal. They're pioneers of MELODIC death metal.

  • @xdieromanticx212

Get your facts right and yeah I disagree with you and the 25 idiots that thumbed you up. Testament isn't Death Metal (NEVER WAS). And who did you say the pioneers of Death metal were? About 80% of the melodeath sound comes from early Swedish Death Metal (1989-1991). So it's great when I hear everyone repeating the same standard stories they heard.

  • @xdieromanticx212 Testament didn't really do anything to pioneer death metal, they were thrash until the LATE 90s, when there were lots of death metal bands around. I think In Flames, Dark Tranquility, and At The Gates deserve more credit than Testament, honestly.

  • @xdieromanticx212 true metalheads are to caught up in pig squeelz and breakdownw and some other gay shit but they didn't pioneer death metal, they pioneered MELODIC death metal. Death and Celtic frost pioneered death metal. Mostly death though...

  • @xdieromanticx212 Yeah, they helped define melodic death metal even though Carcass's Heartwork album kind of introduced the idea.

  • @xdieromanticx212

lol, you people still exist? hehehe

  • @xdieromanticx212 Yes, but Death was very similar to the bands !

Cannibal Corpse sucks as, do they have cool album covers except depictions of slaughters on all albums covers !

Mind numbing noises, that's how I categorise them . Other similar bands are just faggots that took the beauty from the slow and soothing melodic death metal and made a regurgitative pile of bass/guitar all at once !

I know CC was first, but IF and DT made better music and more inovative !

  • @NearbyHermit Morbid Angel, Death, Immolation, Brutality...Those are some good example of "heavier" death metal.

  • @YTisMyPlaylist No really, sarcasm ?

I don't like fast and repetitive bands, that's all :)

  • @NearbyHermit Ohh, so you dont like that kind of death metal at all :P

Thought you just hated the avarage "look im tough gory-stuff".

  • @YTisMyPlaylist Well, uh, depends on the level of gore :D

No Cannibal Corpse, Cephalic Carnage,Cryptopsy, Cephalotorachic and Possessed for me .

  • @NearbyHermit Possessed is more thrash :P And they dont sing about gore :o

You should also thank them for helping start the death metal genre, they influnced Death alot. About the others, i would only take a listen to Cryptopsy, but just because of Lord Worm :P

  • @YTisMyPlaylist Well, I just took a few listens to a few songs , so I might underestimate them !

But I do know much about Death and Obituary, Amorphis, Entombed, these kind of bands .

Cryptopsy for example has a song with Lord Worm called, Slit Your Guts, which is very disturbing, I mean, the song is a typical brutal death metal song, but it's clearly not my type !

I'm into the mellow stuff :P

  • @NearbyHermit Amorphis owns :D

Im also more into the "mellow stuff", althought i do listen to alot of blashpemous music. :P

I hate gory bands, they bring this good genre called death metal down.

  • @YTisMyPlaylist Exactly !

Haha, I don't like the vocals at all, if I put a microphone close to a pig, in God's name I can swear it makes the same noises !

Just took a small peak into some acts I mentioned below. Cryptopsy remains the same, even if it turned deathcore, it has that same essence.

From this bunch , the only band I trully like is Decapitated, all of their stuff is pure genious !

Blasphemous music XD , in it's essence, metal isn't satanic, it only tells the truth !

  • @NearbyHermit Yeah :P

Again, Decapitated does not have gory lyrics either, really smart rather, so they dont belong to "that bunch".

Also blasphemy has not really anything to do with satanism, its just being anti-religious.

Metal is the truth, the only truth, the truth you dont have to shove down peoples throats for them too like.

Also, check out Thurisaz, good shit...kinda like DT.

  • @YTisMyPlaylist No, but they have that noisy vocalism, which is actually brilliant !

You can say anything about blood and flesh, but if you say it in a certain way, like ''the bunch'' does, it becomes sick !

Of course blasphemy isn't satanism, satanism is the worship of the self deity !

I have a strong belief in God.

Music is the only way to transmit the message to the people ! True, but metal (music) is a preferrence, the thing you see at TV, that's not music , it's hypnotism ! Thurisaz ?

  • @NearbyHermit Haha, TV music = Hypnosism = true. :D In a way.

Yeah, Decapitated vocals are unique. I myself is an atheist, if you would care. But its nice to see a christian who doesnt just say "WTF IS THIS EVIL CRAP!?" about metal :P

About Thurisaz, i thought i would share a band that i like, kinda deep underground, and i guessed you would like them. If you cant find by just searching by that: search for Thurisaz - Circadian Rhythm

  • @YTisMyPlaylist Right :P

    EVIL CRAP ? never !!!

I know many people are absorbed and enslaved by religion, but that's not the purpose, they're just too desperate or weak to think for themselves, either rational christianity or atheism, those are the ''awaken'' people :D

Metal is my favorite genre, it puts my brain in motion.

Wow, they're a cool band, that song has a nice rhytm to it !

Check out A Canarous Quintet,an old school melodic death metal, similar to At The Gates.

  • @NearbyHermit Yeah metal tells the truth. I read it in Cannibal Corpse's Necropedophile's lyrics.

  • @Neuroneos Why do people always have to generalise ?

    Was your reply necesary ?

  • @NearbyHermit I was only joking. Laugh or die ! :O

  • @Neuroneos Lol :))

Really, CC isn't my type of ''enlightement'' .

In Flames, Tool, Cryptopsy, Dark Tranquility

  • @NearbyHermit You're more into melodic death then ? I prefer brutal/technical death, but i'm not against some Dark Tranquillity or At The Gates once in a while.

  • @Neuroneos I would of said yes, but I guess I like to listen to a lot of music types .

Brutal death metal ... hmm ? I preffer death metal to be a little more mellow :D

Yeah, some melodic death never does any harm. Do you listen to anything else besides extreme metal ?

  • @NearbyHermit Yes. Power, Heavy, Symphonic, Industrial. I think there's good and bad things everywhere.

  • @Neuroneos New(Old) found love, Pink Floyd !

  • @NearbyHermit Pink Floyd is definitely amazing. I got all their albums.

  • @NearbyHermit Old Cannibal Corpse and Cryptopsy are fairly impressive. Possessed kicks ass, you must admit.

  • @xdieromanticx212 pig squealing is garbage

  • @xdieromanticx212 Testament is thrash, and their sound is far away from death metal (Sepultura, Sarcofago, old Sodom got the deathy thrash feeling)

Althought i do agree that DT deserve more credit for helping a new genre start, there are alot more underated death metal/melodeath bands then DT.

    Nothing beats Scandinavian metal.

  • @xdieromanticx212 No, their pioneered melodic metal, not death metal. Totally different. Death pioneered death metal, not in flames.

  • @xdieromanticx212 I seriously don't like DT after The Gallery, it starts to be boring and cold.

  • @xdieromanticx212 Good opinion but it's wrong. It's just absurd to call In Flames and Dark Tranquillity pioneers of death metal, which is totally different from melodic death metal. They were never death metal to begin with.

  • @xdieromanticx212 Pioneer? PFT! lololol! DT are a wonderful group of people in their old days but far from pioneers.

  • Anders Fridén - Best vocalist in the world

  • You, sir, are quite strange. Dont you like the song in the video above? That is Anders Fridén singing. And with In Flames he shows that he is just amazing.

People that sing in the exact same way, year after year, they are the ones who are terrible. Because thats the only one thing they can do.

Tell me, you havent seen In Flames live, no? Do that and then you can say he cant sing.

  • i like stanne's vocals better...

  • It all comes down to what you yourself likes. When Stanne sang in In Flames back in the days, it didnt sound nearly as good as with Anders voice. However Stanne does it very good in Dark Tranquillity nowadays.

Then we have something in common, I've seen them live lots of times. I try to attend as many In Flames concerts a year as i can, it usually is 3-4 depending where they play.

And all i can say is that he just is amazing, from my point of view. No other singer does what he does.

  • Lunar Strain is my favorite In Flames album and the vocals on it are the best on any In Flames album.

I have always preferred Stanne's vocals to Friden's.

It is just dumb to call Friden an amazing vocalist unless you're talking about the OLD days. Nowadays he sounds like an emo bitch when he squeals and whines in the clean vocal parts and his screams are that of metalcore bands.

  • still is a great vocalist, just that he changed for make shit music

  • amazing song.

  • Great band.....great album......great song......what's else?
