15 years of listening to this bloody tune now instead of the original choral piece. Wow! And :/
Don't get me wrong, I do like this piece of music I just don't think it's an improvement on the original. So really, that just begs the question: What's the point, George? (And don't get me wrong there either, I like him and respect what he's done for film). The Original versions of the original trilogy were HUGELY popular on their own merits - So some changes; such as levitating Han's etc weren't...
Don't see why everyone hates on young anakin being the ghost.. think about it, if old anakin was really gonna be a ghost then why would he come back looking all healed, he would retain his scars and probably have a fucked up face still. It makes more logical sense for him to come back as young anakin - the last time he was healthy and unscarred
Or he could come back in a form his son would at least somewhat recognize as the age he died at. He wasn't wearing those Jedi robes when he died, so there's some manner of control over appearance. He could have come back as a little kid too, before he even was discovered and set down the path to the dark side, but he didn't, because that would be fucking stupid.
Obi-wan could have appeared as Ewan McGregor, but thankfully, DIDN'T.
@Apollomasque Would Luke really have recognised him that much more compared to young Anakin? Whichever way you look at it, both ghosts look vastly difference than what Luke saw when he unmasked Vader, with the older Anakin ghost only really sharing head shape. I can see why people prefer the original.. but as someone who grew up with the young ghost, I can see the reasons to why that ghost was used.
In the end, Hayden Christensen's presence in the original trilogy was an unnecessary change that only serves to remind us that the prequels exist. And that in itself is a pretty big sin.
@Apollomasque Yeah, I see what you mean. Time will tell if new generations of Star Wars fans prefer the original trilogy or the prequels, as they won't have 'grown up' with them the same way people did with each trilogy
I hate that they did this. That is not how 40 year old anakin would look like. I seriously doubt that you stop aging when your main features are burned away.
Hm, not sure what I like better. Young Anikin (when he was good) or old Anikin (after turning away from the dark side, risking his life to save his son). Well...when I put it that way, I lean more towards the original, lol. Plus it seems both unfair and rude to the other actor to be cut out and replaced by some young guy with terrible acting skills, lol.
Why would Anakin choose to appear before his son in a form his son would not recognize? You know, because Luke was kind of young - that is, not born - when Anakin looked this way. This makes no sense.
Luke wouldn't have known who he was if they did. Changing Anakin made more sense to fans of the Prequel. Also if you think about it both the actors playing Luke and Anakin favor each other physically. Just made sense overall.
It could be that the only way to be one with the force(a blue ghost) is to be a full-fledged jedi, and the last time he was a jedi was in his twenties. Maybe you become one with the force at the age you were last a jedi if you turn to the darkside and turn back before you die? Idk, but thats just my opinion on it...
Anakin looks like Luke's son rather then Anakin being Luke's father. Fucking horrible. Change it back to Sabastian Shaw. Hamill saw Shaw when he took off Vader's mask. Luke wouldn't even recognize his father at 24 when he turned to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith (Episode III).
Yet the clothing is WRONG. Anakin never wore traditional Jedi robes in the prequels. The only time was at the end of Phantom Menace after that he is never seen wearing that again.
It's a fucking stupid change that pisses me the fuck off to this date.
@snake2006 so what if Anakin never wore those clothes? They were the garb worn by Shaw's version of Anakin in the original version of the film, shouldn't it piss you off LESS that there was at least some part of the original film unchanged? Additionally, those clothes were to represent Anakin's redemption, not his actual regular garb.
The entire original film should never been changed to begin with. Noone asked for it.
And according to Lucas, its suppose to revert back to Anakin when he was last a Jedi and he never wore the traditional Jedi Garb. If they were going to do it then do it all the way and not half assed. Which everything Lucas does is half assed these days.
@snake2006 first off, to be perfectly fair, these are Lucas' movies, he can change them however the fuck he wants. Second, that's exactly the reason Anakin wears those white robes in this scene: If it were his usual black outfit, it wouldn't quite give the air intended, the air that Anakin has returned to the light.
But again it's suppose to show the Anakin before turning to the dark side. So having him look like he did in Episode 3 prior to becoming Vader would make sense since most people think of Vader as wearing the Black Suit.
And yes they are Lucas movies, but Lucas has also complained about other directors messing with their movies then he goes and does it constantly. He should leave them alone or atleast give people the choice, he does neither.
@snake2006 fair points, both of them, but also notice that Anakin doesn't have the scar down his eye that he had in episode 3. Basically, force spirits represent a person's true self, so it stands to reason Anakin's clothing here doesn't resemble his ROTS one. In the EU, Luke's force spirit (among a few other jedi characters) is shown with these robes as well, despite the fact he never wore them.
@snake2006 I figured as much. I was just using it as an example. Luke was someone devoted to the light side, hence why his spirit (canon or not) wore the white jedi master's robes. Though Vader lived a life of darkness and villainy, his redemption proved his devotion to the Jedi, hence why he wore the same robes as Obi-Wan. It's similar to the holocron's gatekeeper (again, canon or not), which resembles the 'true form' of one's self.
it would have made sense if he was still evil when he died (but then again he wouldn't even be there, I know), but he turned back to good while he was still alive, he died a good old fart. Lucas definitely shouldn't have changed it!
@F0Xhound009 yea but you have to remember that Gorge Lucass made the episodes 4,5, and 6 and then he made 1,2,and 3. so he had no idea that he was going to make a Qui Gon in episodes 1,2,and 3. but still ur right that would have been pretty cool ;)
@F0Xhound009 and everyone who went to face Palpatine and those killed in Order 66 (After which they all beat the crap out of Anakin for being a cop out).
Yeah changing it to the young Anakin just so kids who aren't very smart would realize "oh that's supposed to be his dad" was ridiculous...he was like, what, 60 when he died? Mhm. Shouldn't have changed it, unless they wanted to add Qui-Gon and possibly a few others to appear as ghosts...that would have been cool.
That prick can't even act, when he's standing there saying nothing...what a shitty, horrible choice to play Anakin...Jake Lloyd wasn't much better as little Anakin.
his jedi spirit appears as the last time he was an actual jedi, whereas before it was his old sith self re-appearing as if he were a jedi when he died.
both versions are acceptable to me, + i have both on dvd, so who cares? if you want sebatian shaw standing there instead of hayden christiansen, change the disc, dude. don't complain about it.
From what I understand, that footage of Hayden Christensen was from a costume fitting that had been filmed prior to Attack of the Clones. It wasn't shot specifically for this scene which is why he's looking a bit weird at the camera. It might also explain why Anakins image is visibly more blury and lower quality than Obi-Wans.
@TheGrumpstein If it was before Attack of the Clones, why does he have the same hair as he does in Revenge of the Sith. In Clones his hair has shaved nearly right off.
They should've at least put Padme in here, I mean, you add Luke's father but not the mother? wtf?! If you can't do that maybe Qui-Gon? Anakin's mentor? no? >_> okay, when the 3D movie of this comes out I expect to see more than three ghosts, at least put Yoda and Obi-wan's Revenge of the Sith form! You give back Anakin's Revenge of the Sith form, now it'll only make more sense if the other two are the same.
Yeah this was in my original trilogy DVD set I finally got a couple years ago. So was replacing Clive Revell with Ian McDiarmond in the Vader/Emperor holo-comm chat in "Empire"... neither really detract much for me, but I tend to lean toward original version when possible. Might be time to stop redoing your own stuff though, Lucas....
there is a video that shows, luke seeing the ghost of old anakin, but once luke walks away he turns into young anakin, or he just immediatly shifted from old to young, i could live with that
anakin skywalkers deeds like distroying a whole planet could not keep him from jedi navarna its like running into jesus in heaven and find him seated next to hitler. or runnimg into the lord budda and also finding pol pot
Yea they should have should both anakin and obi wan when they are old and then the image of them changes for a brief minute showing them both when they were young.
Personally I don't mind the fact that Lucas put in young Anakin and my main reason is that, as many have said before, Anakin "died" when Vader took his place (the fact that he went from an annoying cry baby to a badass villain just proves my point) so I can understand him. Kind of.
Besides, when Vader died he was what? 45? And the old one looked like he was Obi-Wan's age. I think they should have used makeup or something to make Hayden Christensen look older, that would have been more logic.
Anakin died when he threw the emperor down the shaft. Yes he became evil when he was young, but then he came back to good before his body died. So old anakin should be shown.
@DanielJohn19 YES!! Finally some decent people that understand. Vader was his darkside, he turned himself into darth vader with hatred, physically and mentally. Even his suit made him vader, thats why the young anakin makes more sense because Vader killed anakin.
i dont think that many people know that anikin died along with padme not physically i mean in the sense anikin skywalker failed to exist anymore past that point so when obiwan said that vader had killed lukes father he was right in more than one way , i beleve that why they replaced Sebastian shaw is because anikin's personalty died when he learned that padme died hence the death of padme and the birth of vader becuase anikin and padme died together theoretically when she died he lost himself
What the fuck? Why don't they show the young Obi Wan? And why wasn't Luke like "Who the fuck is this duchebag?" His dad was and old bald burnt guy. And in all of these movies only Luke sees the dead Jedi, so is Luke crazy?
Even though I am more familiar with the Prequel Anakin, I still think Lucas should have left the old Anakin in there. Even in there is no other reason but to leave Sebastian Shaw in it. The only part he has is as a melted old man with an English accent. It would be good for us to see Shaw as Old Anakin. Plus, I dunno about teh whole thing about Anakin's youth linking to his goodness. He died an old man on the Light Side and turned to the Dark Side in his youth. Period.
@RevengeOfIjapa Lucas could at least compronise and show young Anakin and fade it to the Shaw Anakin. Plus, Shaw's Anakin is MUCH more loving; his kind eyes and face makes the heart melt. Why? Because Shaw was filming this scene and acting for it. Christensen just had his smiling face chopped in and, while cool, it's not as authentic and Shaw's energy doesn't radiate as it did in the old ones.
(I saw this edit before I'd seen the Shaw version, so I know what I'm talking about...I think :P)
@squamish4244 OMG my mind is blown how in the hell could this be why george why lol
That was like a crucial scene and now young anakin is in there ?the reason he should be old is because he was jedi went sith then went back to jedi right before he died hence why he can be seen in ghost form ........sigh looks like im keeping my vhs version lol
@danzinnyman I would if I were you although I hear the original versions are available on a 2006 release of the movies, I don't know any more details than that.
@rhinnawi95 I would agree with you, except that this comes right at the end of the trilogy when everyone's celebrating and it's jarring to be pulled out of the scene by "evil Anakin" five seconds before the movie ends.
But of course the Greedo scene is ridiculous. You should watch "George Lucas Strikes Back" where the 'real' George Lucas (having been replaced by an imposter who made the prequels) shoots Greedo six times. It's awesome.
yes...its like they say "th ghosts have the apearance of the man who was a jedi BEFORE it turned to the dark side". so yes, anakin before turned, looked like that.not an old man. after all, a ghost is a soul. not a body. and anakin's soul was "pure" before he become sith...so yes, if they want to show us anakins soul they have to show this. not darth vader's face :)
I agree. I was just disputing others for bitching about them replacing Sebastian. It would certainly make more sense to show Anakin before he became a Sith being he was redeemed.
@squamish4244 well this was on the dvds and the star wars special edition vhs but with sabastian shaw on the vhs but they had the scenes already in there from the phantom menace before it came out in 1999 and people were like where the fuck that place when I saw jedi special ed in like 1995. I prefer the original ewok upcha song and also the original band music in jabbas palace . I prefered seeing the landspeeder outside obi wans house howered over the ground not the replacement on the hill.
One thing I will say is that the music in that scene is much better than in the original version. John Williams knocked that out of the park. The rest of the changes (in the whole Trilogy) are ridiculous and completely unnecessary.
Btw, You have no Bluray Drive on your PC to rip this scene? The audio is thin, and the video's quality sucks (Though not as much as you would except) It's still a great scene.
I miss "Yub Nub." Why did they ever get rid of that song? I grew up with Yub Nub, I sang along to Yub Nub, I played with my Yub Nub. I miss my Yub Nub!!!!
I just figured it was more emotional to see the Anikin we know from the prequels. Especially for any new comers that know the series better through the prequels
No he didn't, but I suppose technically he was young when he previously was a Jedi. He was an old fart all his Vader years. So they just showed him as the young Jedi we know.
@Jetli2013 But he was young in the original so what difference does it make? The added effects to the blue ray version just made it better in that scene in you could say that only jedi become ghosts well anakin was on the republic side when he was younger
Yes. I know. But respectfully speaking, they should not have changed what Anakin looks like. By the end of part VI, Vader dies older. Therefore, Obi-Wan appears older, yoda appears older. But no. They had to change "anakin" to appear younger just to give that young actor a special appearance in the origional star wars. I am really not willing to have a long conversation about this either. Its Lucas' work. He can do do whatever the hell he wants to do.
Is it just me, or does Anakin look damn evil at 0:17? I just get that feeling he's not thinking "redeemed at last" now, rather "yeah, I'll show YOU brats the dark side of the Force!"
@gotalifeanditsmine He is a good actor in my opinion perhaps the writing was not very good although in the acting at the end of revenge of the sith was very good
you special edition motherfucker!! XD

this change was put in a special editon dvd footage but it looks gr8 on blue ray
stephenneed 2 months ago
I think they should have put in old AND young. Old would appear mostly, but then a slide fade would give a brief image of young.
MrImastinker 2 months ago
@MrImastinker I like the way you think!
bellajacklil 2 months ago
they should have put young obi wan also (ewan mcgregor) and cgi yoda
DarkWazaman 2 months ago
i like this. Anakin was this when he turned. I understand why Lucas made the change. I like it.
DanielJohn19 2 months ago 3
@DanielJohn19 YES!! Finally some decent people that understand. Vader was his darkside, he turned himself into darth vader with hatred, physically and mentally. Even his suit made him vader, thats why the young anakin makes more sense because Vader killed anakin.
JakOfKings 3 weeks ago
i dont think that many people know that anikin died along with padme not physically i mean in the sense anikin skywalker failed to exist anymore past that point so when obiwan said that vader had killed lukes father he was right in more than one way , i beleve that why they replaced Sebastian shaw is because anikin's personalty died when he learned that padme died hence the death of padme and the birth of vader becuase anikin and padme died together theoretically when she died he lost himself

@psychxnoobtube2 it would take ages to write how i feel about it lol im not sure why i commented

In 10 years Hayden will be in his early 40's the age Vader died. Will look normal then.
darkwhitedirewolf 2 months ago
What the fuck? Why don't they show the young Obi Wan? And why wasn't Luke like "Who the fuck is this duchebag?" His dad was and old bald burnt guy. And in all of these movies only Luke sees the dead Jedi, so is Luke crazy?
onexero1 2 months ago
I just saw this scene on DVD and it looks just like this.
geyck 2 months ago
Even though I am more familiar with the Prequel Anakin, I still think Lucas should have left the old Anakin in there. Even in there is no other reason but to leave Sebastian Shaw in it. The only part he has is as a melted old man with an English accent. It would be good for us to see Shaw as Old Anakin. Plus, I dunno about teh whole thing about Anakin's youth linking to his goodness. He died an old man on the Light Side and turned to the Dark Side in his youth. Period.
RevengeOfIjapa 2 months ago
@RevengeOfIjapa Lucas could at least compronise and show young Anakin and fade it to the Shaw Anakin. Plus, Shaw's Anakin is MUCH more loving; his kind eyes and face makes the heart melt. Why? Because Shaw was filming this scene and acting for it. Christensen just had his smiling face chopped in and, while cool, it's not as authentic and Shaw's energy doesn't radiate as it did in the old ones.
(I saw this edit before I'd seen the Shaw version, so I know what I'm talking about...I think :P)
RevengeOfIjapa 2 months ago
@RevengeOfIjapa Old Anakin is much better. This WAS the worst change to the OT until Vader's Noooooooooo!!!

danzinnyman 1 month ago
@danzinnyman Sorry, but it's on the Blu-Ray and the 2004 version. It's not in the 1997 version or the unremastered version.
squamish4244 1 month ago
@squamish4244 OMG my mind is blown how in the hell could this be why george why lol
That was like a crucial scene and now young anakin is in there ?the reason he should be old is because he was jedi went sith then went back to jedi right before he died hence why he can be seen in ghost form ........sigh looks like im keeping my vhs version lol
danzinnyman 1 month ago
@danzinnyman I would if I were you although I hear the original versions are available on a 2006 release of the movies, I don't know any more details than that.
squamish4244 1 month ago
@squamish4244 No, the worst change was making Greedo shoot first. I mean... what the hell, man? Amiright?
rhinnawi95 1 month ago
@rhinnawi95 I would agree with you, except that this comes right at the end of the trilogy when everyone's celebrating and it's jarring to be pulled out of the scene by "evil Anakin" five seconds before the movie ends.
But of course the Greedo scene is ridiculous. You should watch "George Lucas Strikes Back" where the 'real' George Lucas (having been replaced by an imposter who made the prequels) shoots Greedo six times. It's awesome.
squamish4244 1 month ago
@squamish4244 Hahaha, I've seen it, and it's hilarious! If only it was true
rhinnawi95 1 month ago
@squamish4244
It made sense to change it.
TheJosephPrice 1 month ago
@TheJosephPrice
yes...its like they say "th ghosts have the apearance of the man who was a jedi BEFORE it turned to the dark side". so yes, anakin before turned, looked like that.not an old man. after all, a ghost is a soul. not a body. and anakin's soul was "pure" before he become sith...so yes, if they want to show us anakins soul they have to show this. not darth vader's face :)
AENAOS1980 1 month ago
@AENAOS1980
I agree. I was just disputing others for bitching about them replacing Sebastian. It would certainly make more sense to show Anakin before he became a Sith being he was redeemed.
TheJosephPrice 1 month ago
@squamish4244 well this was on the dvds and the star wars special edition vhs but with sabastian shaw on the vhs but they had the scenes already in there from the phantom menace before it came out in 1999 and people were like where the fuck that place when I saw jedi special ed in like 1995. I prefer the original ewok upcha song and also the original band music in jabbas palace . I prefered seeing the landspeeder outside obi wans house howered over the ground not the replacement on the hill.
MuscleManDaniel 1 month ago
All changes to the original trilogy, except for the Ewok song being cut, are great and necessary.
MCCARTNEY1FAN 2 months ago
One thing I will say is that the music in that scene is much better than in the original version. John Williams knocked that out of the park. The rest of the changes (in the whole Trilogy) are ridiculous and completely unnecessary.

@DarthJedi2005remixes Why? Luke would have had no idea who he was. It would just be confusing.

@zakifadleik He felt his Force Imprint.
Btw, You have no Bluray Drive on your PC to rip this scene? The audio is thin, and the video's quality sucks (Though not as much as you would except) It's still a great scene.

I just figured it was more emotional to see the Anikin we know from the prequels. Especially for any new comers that know the series better through the prequels

maybe he was shown younger cause he was on the good side in this form, hes true form and george wanted us to remember him by his younger self.

@Officialjc because they're already starting to disagree again..
francisraud 4 months ago
No he didn't, but I suppose technically he was young when he previously was a Jedi. He was an old fart all his Vader years. So they just showed him as the young Jedi we know.
JonSoloReviews 4 months ago 6
@JonSoloReviews
I think it's more a case that he showed himself as he looked when he was last willing to look himself in the mirror.
MrDarthRaptor 3 months ago
Vader didn't die as a young anakin. Good God this is HORRIBLE. They think we are stupid and won't notice shit because of the "special effects".
Jetli2013 4 months ago
@Jetli2013 But he was young in the original so what difference does it make? The added effects to the blue ray version just made it better in that scene in you could say that only jedi become ghosts well anakin was on the republic side when he was younger
ArsenalGoonification 4 months ago
@ArsenalGoonification
Yes.
Jetli2013 4 months ago 2
oh shit
spartanlazy 4 months ago
Haha, yeah he did look mighty evil in this scene. Lol
JonSoloReviews 4 months ago 5
Is it just me, or does Anakin look damn evil at 0:17? I just get that feeling he's not thinking "redeemed at last" now, rather "yeah, I'll show YOU brats the dark side of the Force!"
