  • HOGANS HEROES!

  • not to mention Car Wash

  • Ivan Dixon was FINE! Even in the clip, he still looks great I think Nothing But a Man is one of the finest movies ever made. I loved him as Asagai in A Raisin in the Sun and I remember him in Hogan's Hereos. Wish he could have had a more fulfilling career in Hollywood.

  • He still frankly accomplished more with his role at Kinch on Hogan's Heroes than anything else. He was shown as part of a team, intelligent, and the full equal of the other enlisted men, if not actually the 2nd in charge.

  • @TiminPhoenix I totally agree with you Tim. At the time I was surprised that they let a black person be portrayed for what they should have been all along. I can't remember anyone else, except Ulhura(sp) at the time who were making break throughs as he did. Sorry if he thought it was junk, if he did. He was my favorite of the crew from HH. I always thought he was the cutest. :) Thanks a lot for sharing with us Reel. :) Songs

  • Kinda depressing that he did not mention the TV show that made him famous. I found him downright likeable in Hogan's Heroes, and he played a role that elevated African Americans as a knowledgeable tech guy, brave, duty bound and ethical. His depiction of Kinchlow is what makes him famous. I never heard of his other work. Nonetheless, he seemed like a good man.

  • @electer1776 Well, you know he left the show before it was over. and another black actor took his place, not as the same character though

  • A very underated actor. His dramatic roles were riveting. I will never forget "The Big Tall Wish", an episode he did for the Twilite Zone. His portrayal of down and out boxer Bowlie Jackson absolutely broke my heart. A total master of the craft. Rest in peace.

  • I love Hogans Heroes and Ivan Dixon was perfect for the part of Kinch, RIP !

  • he is joseph asagaii !!!!! <3 so handsome.. wen i saw him in a raisin in the sun, i badly wanted to marry him.. :D

  • i love mr Dixon...he was much better then the other guy'washington'

  • Even thou Ivan was given (earned) work as an actor & director , he was still very under rated for the path that he carved IN THE 60'S &70'S (That was no small feat)!!!!!!for african americans in this business. The man was extremely talented, it's great to see him being honored as such.

  • I love his sensability. No ego or pretense. Just honesty about what was and wasn't.

  • And he was a great singer also!

  • When he left Hogan's Heroes, the show went downhill fast.

  • @dawoool It only lasted one more season after he left.

  • One great man~!

  • wow

  • i liked him in nothing but a man. trouble man was amazing. i enjoy his movies wasnt he in to kill a mockingbird?

  • i liked him in nothing but a man. trouble man was amazing. i enjoy his movies

  • ivan, noton but a man

  • Great interview!

  • Don't know if it was all junk except "Nothing But a Man" - but that movie was a singular achievement. RIP, Mr. Dixon.

  • Ivan, & Sam Greenlee are real brothers that had the guts to put the truth out there, and paid the price for doing so. Real Blackmen. Now where are you going to find that in hollywood?

  • excellent post...thanks :)

  • i liked the end scene of trouble man

we need to see black male hero's who overcome tremendous odds to get back at the top man who set him up in the first place

that scene trancesnds a psychological barrier that black men have

  • RIP Mr Dixon.

  • Hey Not that it matters! I'm a white guy who loved Hogans Heroes, My favorite was Kinch!! he was the cool guy! I love to watch the shows with Kinch, But I always wondered why he left Kinch is the best

  • He was terrific!

  • Technically, he wasn't the only black POW. After he left he was replaced by Ken Washington.

  • John cassavettes said the same thing that he just acted in all these tv shows to get enough money to make his own movies [ rod serling said hogans heroes was the al time worst tv show because you should never think that a pow camp is funny ] I dont think I spy and the outer limits was junk either.

  • spacepatrolman satire, dude. satire (and genius at that!). Suppose you think Archie Bunker was a racist?

  • What surprised me was he was also in "A raisin in the sun " as Asagai The guy from Africa dating Beneatha in the 1961 film version.

    Thanks for the interview.

  • Great post-

    Thanks for sharing this interview

  • @4eva68 And the Broadway play!

    This was a great interview!

Ivan was a Man, nothing less

    T

  • He should have been nominated for Nothing But A Man.

  • Ivan was my neighbor in a remote mtn community in California. He was articulate, aware and kind. He got my 9 yr old daughter excited about Barack O'bama 4 years ago! We were sad when he moved his home base to New York, but sadder still to hear of his passing. He was a beautiful man, husband and father, as well as a great talent...

  • so what were ivan dixon's opinions of bob crane? were they friends or just co-workers who tolerated each other?

  • "Hogans Heroes" was the best show I've seen. All of the characters were outstanding with their parts. Sgt. Shultz was the funniest.

  • I agree completely! Hogan's Heroes is the best show.

  • I've always admired Kinch, but I'm admiring Mr. Dixon even more - if possible. Both the character and the man portrayed integrity, dependability, self-respect. Same with Lonnie in 'Car Wash'. I'm so glad to hear and see him here, talking about what mattered to him. Please add all the other parts, and thank you for Part 1

  • He was so intimidating and respected in Car Wash. The ONLY person in the movie who had any sense.Great actor. R.I.P. Ivan

  • I normally don't kill cats...unless they sleep with my WIFE!

  • Ivan Dixon a legend, an actor and a filmaker will be sadly missed. God Rest your soul Mr Dixon.

  • excellent work here, Michael. Thanks for this. RIP to Ivan Dixon.

  • Hogan's Heroes is still my all time favorite tv show. I was deeply saddened when I heard of Mr. Dixon's passing. This means only Richard Dawson and Robert Clary are left. R.I.P."Kintch", you'll be missed!

  • the person who took ivan's place when he left hogans is still alive too.Rip Ivan Dixon

  • That's true. It was Kenneth Washington, who was known as "Baker".

  • A wonderful post of a wonderful person. Thank You.

  • Our Stories Productions send condolences to the family of the late, great and one of the most legendary actor and filmmaker,Ivan Dixon. He will be greatly missed.

I was honored to be at the 2006 BFM Conference.I was enlighten on a lot of Black aka American cinema history.

If you don't have at least "The Spook Who Sat by the Door" then you don't have a complete Black & White Classic film collection.Check it out, it's a REEL Classic.

If you don't know, now you know!

Word up! Peace - I'm out

    ab
