this song was ricky nelsons but before him it was sung from al jolsen dean martin, and sinatra even. Though when ELVIS sung his version, its totally unmatched!
@kingofkingz1979 He did take the basic arrangement from Rickys and the guitar solo is nearly identical and I will go so far as to say it is the same guitaist James Burton. While I certainly won't agree that it is better I will state for the record that the King is the King for the simple reason that no one has even half as many top 40 hits . You can insist MJ is the king of pop but if that were true wouldn't he have had as many hits as Elvis. Elvis had about 3 times as many . I think 107 = KIng
@Geepsterr true that u say bout BURTON being the same guitarist after leaving Nelson in 67 Presley asked him (twice) to join him (tcb band) from 69 all the way till his death in 77 MJ was great though had only one style,Elvis voice was versatile & sung all types of music (rock, gospel, soul.country,r&b,folk, ballads)He loved singing & was the most hardest working man in the industry recording numerous albums, hits, movies etc coz he loved it,was his life
@kingofkingz1979 Agreed . What you say about your opinion is understated though . It is a quantified fact that Elvis is the King of Popular music . Now Burton was my prime influence from the Ozzie & Harriet days. He made me want to play.
@Geepsterr I admire the "master of telecaster" too, he was the t-bone of Elvis TCB band & other artists he played with, he's a legend & up with the best of em though he's underated.
He still always wear hisTCB band chain around his neck whereva he tunes, keep playn real music bud, these dayz you hear tech sound crap. It is up to us to keep the realism of music.

Great song, but I have to say these are some of the least glamorous--but most sexy!!--pics of the King in his heyday that I've ever seen. Awesome eye, Jackiej61too.
@powergirl901 The guitarist is the great James Burton who also played the same solo on the original hit recorded by Ricky Nelson about 10 or 11 years earlier Elvis hand picked Burton to be his guitarist because of his brilliant work on the classic recordings by Ricky Nelson
Elvis The King of Music. The only singer able to sing in different styles of music. If it was not for Elvis, singers and bands like Michael Jackson, Beatles and others would have never existed. Jacksons and the Beatles did not had a good voice, but because of Elvis era when the world was looking for more Elvis type singers, they became famous. long Live The King! ELVIS PRESLEY. Love from Iran.
this song is originally from Brook Benton and that's the same for the song Frankie and Johnny and it's a matter of time that songs where from Brook Benton to
Very similar to the Rick Nelson version, with James Burton contributing the instrumental break on both. Elvis' version is more heartfelt, but I think both versions are great. Thank you for posting.
elvis did this on the elvis now album rca 1972. it was one of the less appreciated songs from that session along with i was born about 10 thousand years ago. cstanchik

Thanks to jackie61oo for this wonderful enjoyable upload and song...great video honey!

To me Elvis has the best version and that James Burton...well he's on Elvis,Ricky Nelson and Brenda Lee's versions...I guess Burton is half the song!!!
Ordinarily I prefer Elvis, but on this one particular song, I like Rick Nelson's version. Maybe it's the tempo. I don't like the background singers that aren't on Nelson version. They ruin it for me.
Elvis and James Burton, wow the best ever! It's impossible to top those guys. They were so great, watching and listening to them made this great music look easy. It isn't easy....just try. This is true GOD given talent!
Written by Johnny Mercer and Rube Bloom. Elvis recorded it May 18, 1971 at RCAs Nashville Studios. It is available on Elvis Now, For the Good Times, and Forgotten Songs of the 70s.
This is easily my most favorite version of this gem. Elvis had the unique ability to make very nearly every song that he sang his very own. As you know, the very first Elvis album that this masterpiece appeared on was "Elvis Now". I'm still waiting for the FTD label to issue a deluxe edition of this classic Elvis album. Elvis was and will always be a true one of a kind. He'll never ever be matched or duplicated. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
This and the Rick Nelson`s version are exactly identical.

performed by "The Sweet Inspirations"
and for me they totally "sell it" ..just like

this was Elvis' least favorite song. Any one else have input on this?
