@melodyl52 During the time I was rockin out on Zepp and Pink Floyd, I'd still listen to this song on an oldies station if it was on. Wonder if their albums will be collectors now that Davy is gone. Looking for "Head" soundtrack album. All this memorable music makes you want to go back one more time.
@raintalonwindclan I wish I could go back to the 60's & 70's. The GREATEST times in history to be a kid. Everyday was Xmas for me & my friends! We LOVED our lives & our childhood:-) Innocence & fun beyond description. We all miss it. Just wish the youth today could experience what we did...but those days are long gone:-( We still love talking about how great our lives were back then. We feel sad for today's youth. Nothing today reminds us of anything innocent & carefree.
I KNOW DAVY WOULD RATHER US TO HAVE SMILES WHEN WE REMEMBER HIM AS WE ALWAYS WILL, BUT I JUST COULDNT HELP SHEDDING SOME TEARS AT THE NEWS. THANKS FOR OPENING UP MY WORLD WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER AND LOOKING FOR A FRIEND(S), GOD BE WITH YOU TILL WE MEET SOME DAY. YOU SHINE DUDE. CHEERS PEACE AND LOVE.
I still have their albums. I love them all, and since hearing of Davy's passing, I wish I had a record player to play them. So sad, but his voice was just as great in the end as it was back then. He will be missed.
Great song. RIP Davy Jones. At one time or another you were a heart breaker for most all American girls in the 60's. You music and smile will live on.
RIP Davey Jones...Monkees takes me back to fav palce --Chats, Durban, SA...Reminds me of my fav uncels Joe and Joey.....we luved da Monkees and we were da Believers
@redstar99508 Most of their music was written by Neil Diamond, including this song. Didn't matter, though, because the Monkees were a very talented band. Very sad to hear of Davy's passing. Very sad.
God Almighty, we were so young and innocent then..I miss it and i will miss you Davy Jones..Thanks for being a part of my glorious youth..I wonder how many kids today will think back on there childhood as glorious and sweet?..
@myboylollipop09 Love what you wrote:-) I miss the fun we had as kids...no cell phones, internet, cable, etc...played outside all day..and came home when the street lights came on. No worries..everything was innocent and FUN!!! Today's kids have NO IDEA how great we had it. To me everyday was Christmas as a kid:-) Absolutely LOVED my childhood. My fondest memories. Same with alot of baby boomers:-)
@myboylollipop09 Yes, I agree. Don't you miss the days when you went out trick or treating until midnight----you didn't have to worry about strangers and that crap. Put on the Partridge family, Beatles, and the Monkees on your favorite record player...wearing those huge headphones. Those were the days...
Davey Jones was unlike many singers recent and from the past who didn't allow drugs and alcohol to ruin his life. He eventually settle in the small town of Beavertown, Snyder County in the great state of Pennsylvania. Davey R.I.P. and thanks for being a momentous part, through your voice and many contributions to our community. Now go sing a tune in heaven with all the rest of those clean and decent performers.
@duanewat - That's true. I was watching Davy on TV not long ago. He was preparing to go out and do his show. (He played a lively show and looked like he was having fun. Davy always was a front man.) He was talking about how he indulges himself on a Red Bull before getting on stage.
Did anyone know he had a bad heart? I didn't. He looked healthy.
I love this song. I tell my nieces when they are having a problem in their relationships. I always remember this song in the back of my mind. Then I tell them "Your a little bit right and he's a little bit wrong." They never argue with that!! I Love you Davey!! RIP!!! : (
Well however you look at the origins of the band,as kids growing up in the sixties they gave us hope, adventure and above all belief in individualism. The American English relationships seemed to be cemented somehow. What many of us became in our lives in part shaped by this.
Thanks Davy for helping us through our youth.
It was about fun and hope.Yeah above all made us happy.RIP
I was absolutely gaga over Davy when I was 11-12. And my my he never lost his good looks all these years. Loved the show and bought their first 2 albums. Although I loved the Beatles more, they changed in '66/'67, so much they scared me. I wanted them to remain cute and loveable like they were in Hard Days Night and Help but they didn't. So I turned to the Monkees for a spell and was that a great ride! Davy was my favorite Monkee. He sure made my heart beat! Thanks Davy for the good times RIP.
Man this is a sad day!!!!!! I feel so old today, We will all miss you Davey you were one of the first and your music will last forever. Our generation has lost a great person today! Makes me remember all the things I hoped for in life. Life is short and time flies and before you know it there is no time left. Make sure to tell the ones you love that you love them. Peace and love Davy Jones.
Having grown up in the 60s and 70s, the monkees were just as much a part of our musical heritage as anyone. Godspeed Davy, may your sprit be with us always.

Nice song written by Neil Diamond, who had Charles Manson as musical colaborator at that time. By the way, it is said that Manson intended to join The Monkees (although is lie)
Funny how certain songs bring back specific memories. I was descending toward the Hawaiian Islands when I heard this for the first time. Another great tune from the 60's.
This tune came out when I was in high school. My high school had a Hammond B3 organ with two of those big ol' wood-encased speakers with the rotating horns. I remember connecting the speakers to a stereo, putting this tune on repeat, pushing the speakers so that they faced each other about 4 feet apart, and laying on the floor between them to listen to this blasting straight into my brain over and over. It's a wonder I have any hearing left at all.
this hit #2 in Billboard, 4-29-67. Neil Diamond wrote it, and, accordin' to legend, he sings backup on it, too. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!
my all time fav monkees song- reminds me of my summer days as a wee lad in manchester- all time great group far better than summer sounds these days !
Anyone else notice there are two different mixes of this song? One sounds more accoustic and this version here (and the best) sounds more fledged out, with a richer, louder sound.
@abc7197 There is also a stereo mix of this song on the internet somewhere. I also know that there were also two mixes of "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "Daydream Believer", "Valleri" and (maybe) a few others. One version of each track's been used for the sitcom, and the other version of the tracks were for the album. It's a shame this song wasn't released on ANY of their original albums, but still became a hit and a flip side of "The Girl I Knew Somewhere".
@RareMusic42 Thanks for the reply. Are you then saying that the sitcom version was the one released as a 7" RCA single in 1967? I had the single since I was a kid and I felt there was a subtle difference between this and the album version (which appears in most greatest hits CDs out there) but wasn’t quite sure. If you include the 'accoustic' version then this makes a total of 3 versions, all released in the sixties.
@RareMusic42 The version I was referring to is posted on this site by Infusion26. I think it may be called 'bass cover'. Not exactly accoustic but it has a less richer sound than the sitcom and album versions. I still think the sitcom version is the best.
What a great song! When I was dating my husband, he used to play their music all the time.
We have most of their music on CD and still play it.

Sounds like Neil Diamond wrote this one, if my memory serves me right I believe Neil Diamond and Stephen Stills wrote many of their songs.

this hit #2 in Billboard, 4-29-67. Neil Diamond wrote it, and, accordin' to legend, he sings backup on it, too. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

@DaveWollenberg Well according to the Monkees Anthology set.. it says unknown backup vocals and handclaps. So you might be right.

@abc7197 I never heard the accoustic version before.

@RareMusic42 The version I was referring to is posted on this site by Infusion26. I think it may be called 'bass cover'. Not exactly accoustic but it has a less richer sound than the sitcom and album versions. I still think the sitcom version is the best.
