  • im goina get myself married to this wee number

  • On the Fillmore when it was real and Little Willie was at the Blue Mirror this is what I had when I was a young girl. What a voice.

  • Irma Thomas does a great version of this!

  • Willie John's original has the focal point on the vocal (which is outstanding). Peter Green and F Mac features both vocal AND lead guitar. Both are amazing. On the 4CD set of the Fleetwood Mac Blue Horizon output, this song had many takes, each being fantastic.

Willie John was so good and should be credited as a great influence on many rockers and blues artists.

  • He was so great! The vocal control is amazing.

  • 3 people don't need someones love that bad.great one by him.got this on 78 today at a flea market for $1.

  • 3 people disliked this?! Why not just come round my house and piss on my face!

  • Thanks for this. Great to hear the original. I really like it. I've always loved Peter Green's version too.

  • Listen to Whitesnake's version of this..it rules!

  • @QueenReigns1 no.

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS...MY PARENTS GOT ME HOOKED ON LITTLE WILLIE JOHN.....DAM THIS IS REAL TALK ALL DAY LONG AND STRAIGHT THRU THE NIGHT...

  • @thesonyakyleshow wish my parents had, this is beautifull

  • @darrenwatsonband I usually prefer the original versions of songs, unless a cover is able to improve upon the typical 'rawness'. This IS great and indeed very soulful ... but you've gotta be outta your mind to say Peter Green's vox aren't even close. Even the black, blues players of the 50-60s said that Green had the most authentic blues feel of any white guy. While that might have been intended for his guitar playing, many feel this applies to his vox as well. Listen carefully to F Mac

  • Mickey Baker on guitar...

  • 2 people need to be taken out and shot

  • @xraylax You hold them, I'll shoot them.

  • BRINGS BACK SOME GREAT MEMORIES ... JOJO TAYLOR !

  • Little Junior Parker also recorded a great version of this on an album called 'You Don't Have To Be Black To Love The Blues'

  • as if he wrote this in prison!!! amazing

  • For me Peter Greens version is the stunning, a real blues classic however this is also a really great version, thanks for posting it.

  • Who could ever dislike this? I have a great version of this by Tracy Nelson on a CD

    somewhere in my possession.

  • Just love this one, thinking Peter Green did it well

  • @ginaszoo36

Peter Green did a KILLER version of this! His version and Little Willie John's are really the only versions that I adore.

  • I have been looking for this song for years. My older cousins had the 45 on King records back in the late fifties. They also had Little Richard and Screaming Jay Hawkins records. I did not even know who they were since I never saw them on TV or heard them on Rock and Roll radio at the time. Thanks for putting this song out there.

  • *sigh*....

  • NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN BOUT!!!!!

  • love this.great voice,great piano,a classic

  • that is such a piece of class. love those blues chords

  • To me, LWJ, owns this song, but then I don't care for the styles of singing of many others who've sang this song. It's not a matter of who is better, but which version I prefer. I don't even like Irma Thomas' cover, though I love her singing. Many artists sound as though they are attempting to imitate R&B singers to my ears. For those of us raised in African American music traditions, it can be somewhat difficult to appreciate. Not always, but a lot. Sort of like do you like coke or pepsi.

  • I like the Allman Bros. (1979) version much better...

  • BPO This is gold!!!! I love it........Phyllis..

  • shit...i've always beleaved it was P. Green's one

  • this is the first time i have heard this the original version. really sweet. Peter greens version does it proud.

  • what instrumental version did Peter Green do with John Mayall?

I like both Little Willie John's and Fleetwood Mac's, but for different reasons

  • This is amazing. I heard the Fleetwood Mac version a couple of years ago and I loved it, but this one, the original is wonderful as well. Little Willie John's voice is so warm and sincere that it makes you feel every word and chord. Sung from the bottom of the soul. Great tune, great record!!! Love it!!!

  • Please- I need the 411- was this the original?

  • @billchew450 yes this is the original

  • This is the definitive version IMO. The F.Mac version doesn't have the vocal soul of this, not even close.

  • @darrenwatsonband True but Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green did an instrumental version of this with John Mayall that is a Blues masterpiece.

  • @darrenwatsonband

Can't agree Darren. Pete doesn't rip it off, he transforms it. And brings a lot of (well deserved) royalties to the writer. Love this version, love Peter Green's version - two different things entirely. As for the vocal soul factor. Peter Green is a white Jewish East End boy and he's never going to sing it like Willy John. All the soulfulness is in the playing. Listen to them both with fresh ears, and you'll find Pete isn't copying, he's paying tribute.

  • @Jenjenilou Dude.... YOU said he "rips it off", not me. ;-) As for the soul thing - it's subjective. Greenie just doesn't move ME. If he moves you, all well and good. I also don't believe colour or religion have anything to do with soulful vocal ability. There are a myriad of examples of soulful singers from all kinds of places and backgrounds. To my ears a lot of what Peter Green played is recycled BB King. He did it very, very well. But I like him better when he sticks to original material.

  • @darrenwatsonband - I think if you listen properly to Greeny you'll find its Freddy King he copies NOT BB

  • @Jenjenilou

I simply ADORE Peter Green's version from his days with Fleetwood Mac!!! :)

  • I love this song.

  • Classic,I'm lovin it and all his music too bad for his troubled past.

  • I prefer Peter Green's version...but this one is still one

  • sublime

  • Excellent!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Imagine being a teenager stuck at an aunt's house completely devoid of life (to a teenager, at least) with 3 45's. Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Earth Angel and this song. IN FRESNO. My only source of joy for two weeks!!!

  • Don't be so mean to your dear Auntie. Call her and let her know how much you appreciated her.

  • You are right. At least I did have the 3 records and GREAT food.

  • @diamondears It's a great lesson in patience, control and restraint for when you'll need it soon - instant gratification is not all it's cracked up to be........:)

  • @search4mygroove Good way to look at it!

  • @diamondears

I live here in the Central Valley and I can understand exactly what you mean! :/

  • @Babyhowdy233 lol

  • @diamondears I had the great privilege of playing live with Gaynel Hodgge the composer of Earth Angel several times this year in Amsterdam. It was wonderful and truly magical!

  • @JazzLoverKhurram That was truly a privilege. I would like to visit Amsterdam.

  • Whenever I visit youtube I find all these little gems.

  • @theyoungharris So true.

  • Classic R&B, Soul ... Little Willie John this song has been covered many, many times by artist of many music genres

  • think willie;s one is original...thought it was Peter Green..

  • I wonder if Little Willie John wrote this one. Peter Green's version is great too.

  • Very VERY cool. Excellent quality too! o.O
