so they didn't just remake the game ! they added the charge beam, the power bombs, wall jumps, and even the upgrade system of the beams, so every beam combines with the one before. nice
I've been following this forever and the only thing I dont like is the music I have heard. Hopefully its easy to make a music profile/playlist or just edit the tracks. I havent heard a lot of songs obviously but what I have heard is to cartoonish as if it was a Mario or Sonic game and not a Metroid game. It needs to have serious atmospheric songs like the franchise(before Other M). Maybe OCRemix has some Metroid 2 remixes...

@robto333 That was how Metroid 2 worked. Progression was controlled via how many Metroids were destroyed. There's a huge lava pool that blocks your way until you destroy all the metroids in the area. Once you killed a certain amount, the lava would go down and you could continue to the next area. This continues until you reach the queen at the bottom.
This is the main site for the project. He has a demo up called "Metroid Confrontation" that should give you a good idea how the final project will end up.
Id advise like many have to tread carefully you are using copyrighted material and if used for profit you will be in for a world of hurt my advise contact nintendo and see what you can work out with them in terms of usage rights and Im sure if your work is as good as this video they would gladly work some sort of agreement out with you. Either way be careful Id hate to see this fail because of carelessness

If this is ever finished, they should port it to a downloadable channel for the Wii.....hacking of course. As awesome as this is, Nintendo would never take it with a thank you and your name in the credits, it just isnt their style

After nearly being killed by a bunch of Metroids on her first mission, Samus decided to upgrade her suit and make her very own, custom rogrammed, ultra advanced combat simulator to sharpen her skills.
I have new idea, you can have a visor that you select and then press (arm) to activate. You can move it up and down like the X-ray sscope from Super Metroid, but you can switch out different functions for it in the Status subscreen. It would have built-in light amplification (night vision), but you could switch between four different functions, two of which you start out with. Scan, Targeting, Thermal, and X-Ray.
Nintendo is releasing the 3ds. I bet if you showed Nintendo this game and offered to sell them your idea they would buy it and release it on the 3ds either as download content or an actual game. Please think about it.
I sincerely hope you will keep this project under the radar from Nintendo DoctorM64. I would hate to see a great project like this get a C&D letter when it's nearing its completion.

Something still bugs me.... how come you can kill Alpha, Gamma, Zeta, etc Metroids with just missiles, but the standard ones need an ice beam to be defeated? Or can they be defeated without it?
First off, this looks awesome. I've played the original and can tell that you've definitely done your homework.
Second, as tempting as it is, you might not want to give this publicity. Nintendo has shut down non-profit, fan-made games in the past. What's worse is that they usually wind up hitting you with a cease and desist letter when you're about 95% done with your project.
So, I suggest you figure out a clever way to hide your work and only let a few people in on it until its finished.

I don't see any problems in fan games based on original series. I've played a lot of fan games from Tomb Raider in its level editor program and I liked some. @jarrodDS2000 My guess is that it would limit what the official team could do. Let's say that this is completed, made available for download, and then Nintendo comes out with their own remake of the original game. If there is any striking similarity between the two, DoctorM64 could sue the company for royalty rights, demanding credit for an element of the game that he came up with first. On the other hand, if they play it safe, they have to avoid many potentially great ideas.
Well then we better hope Nintendo buys this so everyone can play it. If what you say is true, then it might be possible that they would make it's download or anything else, illegal. So if they do find out, I hope Nintendo buys... except it might not be for a console.
I never played Metroid II. I'm glad somebody's remaking it so I'll finally have the chance. This looks incredible so far, I like how it takes certain elements from Fusion and some from Zero Mission. Do you have any idea when this will be finished?
@FireSparkProductions Exactly, and it can be similar to how the new Pokémon games went: the status and map screens can go down on the touch screen. You could change the suit's upgrades in realtime, and when you pause via start, the status screen could shift to the top. That way, you can edit like the older games, too.

Looking good. I only found out about this recently and I'm impressed. With Other M coming soon, I'm in the Metroid mood and was wondering if I should play 2 again, but I just might wait for this beast now.

Something still bugs me.... how come you can kill Alpha, Gamma, Zeta, etc Metroids with just missiles, but the standard ones need an ice beam to be defeated? Or can they be defeated without it?

First off, this looks awesome. I've played the original and can tell that you've definitely done your homework.
Second, as tempting as it is, you might not want to give this publicity. Nintendo has shut down non-profit, fan-made games in the past. What's worse is that they usually wind up hitting you with a cease and desist letter when you're about 95% done with your project.
So, I suggest you figure out a clever way to hide your work and only let a few people in on it until its finished.

@llXanatoll That was an interesting and cool comment. I didn't know that about Nintendo, but if that's true, the developers must be very discrete.
I don't see any problems in fan games based on original series. I've played a lot of fan games from Tomb Raider in its level editor program and I liked some. Well, all we know is that Metroid SR388 is more expected and focused than any other fan game I've ever seen before. I hope they don't screw it up with radical changes. I think they won't.

@jarrodDS2000 My guess is that it would limit what the official team could do. Let's say that this is completed, made available for download, and then Nintendo comes out with their own remake of the original game. If there is any striking similarity between the two, DoctorM64 could sue the company for royalty rights, demanding credit for an element of the game that he came up with first. On the other hand, if they play it safe, they have to avoid many potentially great ideas.

Well then we better hope Nintendo buys this so everyone can play it. If what you say is true, then it might be possible that they would make it's download or anything else, illegal. So if they do find out, I hope Nintendo buys... except it might not be for a console.

I hope that the speed, gravity, and jumping are the same as ZM. I took me a while to get used to fusion, and i hated fusion's jumping.

I never played Metroid II. I'm glad somebody's remaking it so I'll finally have the chance. This looks incredible so far, I like how it takes certain elements from Fusion and some from Zero Mission. Do you have any idea when this will be finished?

@FireSparkProductions Exactly, and it can be similar to how the new Pokémon games went: the status and map screens can go down on the touch screen. You could change the suit's upgrades in realtime, and when you pause via start, the status screen could shift to the top. That way, you can edit like the older games, too.

This remake will be for PC, because it's made using Game Maker. I'm pretty sure that DS doesn't have support for Game Maker games :P
