I think this is the morse key I have too. Was given to me by a former boss. A rather pleasant fellow. I've used it on air as G0RGU and got some contacts. Wonder if yours has the gap in units from 0-9 and a 'feder spannung' or 'spring tension' wheel ?
Listening to that code, I started to laugh because those same lines of K.Khan are what I recite when doing comparison tests of microphones. Why I chose that work, I don't know. It just came to mind once and I had to say _something_. I am not aware of anyone else who employs the poem in that way. Why was it your choice?
Enjoyed the video. Nice presentation of technique. Maybe I will put the paddles aside and go back to the straight key.
I don't understand, if you're going to keep your spacing sooooo close, you may as well be using ANY key.. You can't possibly feel the difference between the action on this key and any other when you can pratically breath on the key and make a contact. Stil, it seems to work well for you. FB on your fist.
That thought does cross my mind when I hear someone describe a key's action as smooth. If the contact gap is very narrow it is pretty hard to tell whether it is smooth or not: it is either contact or no-contact. But there are other characteristics which make a good key; I'm not sure what all these characteristics are but one thing I don't like in a key is when it contacts too solidly. The Junker has just the right amount of "spring" in its lever, to my taste.
i was introduced to the ww1 and 2 junker while stationed in germany as a CW radio operator. i hve the junker type ur useing, i also hve the leg attachment that i prefer to use with it. i own 3 other older junkers. i collect military keys.mostly american. ur finger tapping style is the same way i use a key and with very little gap on the contacts. great job u hve a gd fist.
I purchased an Italian Telegraph key dated about 1900. Was in France and attended a French radio flea market. Very nice key and has been identified by an expert as Italian PTT key from that time period.
Hello Drew, this is why you sounded familiar to me! as in the past few days wondering on the SKCC Yahoo group, and just received my official SKCC number of 5267. Anyone who is interested in Morse code should join the Yahoo group! this group has some of the most outstanding individuals I have ever known! I haven't met one yet that wouldn't give you the shirt off his back,or hers....UH that sounds wrong when referring to a woman! I'm loving this and will try to work the sprint! TU KE7ZVJ Joe
Drew, Im still learning the code and im getting better all the time, but it seems easier to follow your fist! I was listening and you sent some weird words to me, then i saw you were quoting a book! That explained it! I would then rewind and listen to it. It is still a little fast for me (lot) but i was able to catch on to some of it pretty easy! It sounds very clear and this is the first message that i sat up and said, Wow im catching on! Most wont care about this, but thank you for helping me!
It appears you are well on your way, so have fun! I also sometimes listen to code that is "too fast", just trying to catch the spaces between words, haha!
I think it's a little under 20 wpm. I would have sent more but my digital camera was limited to 3-minute clips. There is no punctuation because I sent it from memory, and I can't remember where the punctuation goes, haha!
I can quote engine specs but not fancy books! Thanks for the vid and for the reply! Under 20 huh thought atleast 20 by what my practice program does! Maybe its me getting better and not noticing how fast it is! doubt it hi hi Thanks again Drew 73's Joe
Hmmm. That's interesting. You hold your key differently then I hold my Junker. I put my index finger on top (towards the front) and grip the knob on the sides with my middle finger and my thumb. You seem to do it a completely different way! PS - Thanks for the qso during the sks before xmas! There's a card coming via skcc buro to you...
Yes, I just rest two finger tips on top of the button, without holding on at all. Not sure if you can see it, but my arm is not laying on the desk; it is just held loosely at my side, elbow at 90-degrees (chair height has to be just right). It's very comfortable this way. I have to make a better video of the Junker...
The Junker has a detent or "click stop" contact adjuster so you can instantly change the spacing or return to a known setting. The contact gap here is less than 0.002". At this spacing there is only the faintest mechanical sound when the key is tapped. -- 73, Drew
Thanks alot Rick. The truth is, I can send "Kubla" from memory so it rolls right off the fingers. Unrehearsed, I am a bit sloppier (see sprint videos...)-- 73, Drew

Yah at least 20 WPM. i tried following you with my key but i was only half way through before you were on the next set of typed letters.

Imagine tapping out the entire works of Agatha Christie with this key!
Even at 20WPM it would probably take ten years.

You know, all the states in the US and around the world put up operational telegraph line for people who have keys, so they can communicate.

Thanks. I would like to get a few more Junkers but it seems that the supply of these great keys has dried up a bit recently.

The Junker is still sold as "new old stock". Though a little pricey for a hand key, it is still a best value!
