    i am baked

check out music of carbon based lifeforms

    onward

  • @triplights have you ever listened to Gong?

  • @triplights Steve Hillage used to play with Gong. I meant to add not just the Planet Gong selection but others to: good ones from my view are LPs - Angels Egg, Radio Gnome Invisible, Camembert Electrique which are amazing but also Shamal which is incredible.

  • @Moonmaiden61 didnt play on camembert. angels egg is one of the greatest albums of all time, might i add

  • @belbobiggins6969 oops my mistake I just got swept up in a flood-tide of Gong at that moment and not just Hillage. Thanks for putting me right though. Its all awesome stuff - have introduced it to a newer generation who love it too...and so it goes on.... Angels Egg, AWESOME - I had "givin my luv to you" played at my 50th party and Eat The Phone Book Coda (early version) as the final piece at the end of the party to close the music down!

  • JESUS!

  • Brilliant player, saw him at The Kursaal in Southend on sea Essex, and as one of the supporting artists to Queen in Hyde Park !!!

  • Steve used to play at the outdoor music festivals in France when I lived there in the 1970s. Some great times!

  • I saw Steve in Franfort at a small hall. (cannot remember name) I believe it was 1978 I had been listening to him for about a few years. I jumped at the tickets. 3rd row center WOW WOW WOW

  • Love it. Brings back so many memories.

  • SWEEEEET !!!

  • Take a bath

  • great sound /great times

  • I love how we were so fluffly an loved up in those days - first met Steve on a hillside at Stonehenge around '71 or '72 - everyone jammed and Hawkwind used to play all night long - and Steve, totally un-bread-head - undersold and under-rated except by the lucky ones who've listened, dreamed, believed... Love ya man, how rich the world because you are!... <3 xx

  • I think Steve Hillage should appear on stage wearing a crown of thorns, just to freak the audience out.

  • class

  • @1957Aubrey the world is a shit these days because people like you.

    peace.

  • All the Steve Hillage solo albums from 1975 to 1979 = great, unique....I wonder why he turned his back to that music and played "techno" and "trance" instead ? Around 2009 he returned with a "real" rockband, but he just recycled his 30years old pieces (what disappointed me)

  • @Tarabos1

    get with it, bruv

  • why does he look like jusus?

  • he looks like Jesus XD

  • how many people sounded like this in 1977?!

    Im loving this right now

  • love my mcdonald's jew burgers

  • this is why i love the 70s ! superb guitarist :)

  • Boz on bass.

  • wow this is just great ... can't find the words. this guy rocks so hard!

  • The album this was from " L" was produced by Todd Rundgren and Utopia was the backup band

  • The 70's were crap,if you didn't wanna smoke dope,have sex,and wear bell bottoms

and have long hair, not bath for over a month, you were treated like shit!

A big Fuckin F to the 70s.I hated the dirty hippies my sisters would bring home, and now the dirty hippies are running the world now!

So much for their peace and love,Fing war mongers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @1957Aubrey

If hippies were running the world, there would be no war on drugs.

Not everyone from the 70s was a hippie, there are others, like you, who weren't.

  • @1957Aubrey

your one crazy dude? do you also believe that African-Americans are sub humans or the the jews are responsible for the worlds sorrows?

stop fearing what you can't understand

    PEACE!

  • @akj8 The fact that jews are draining the money from our communities through businesses like MaDonalds, and countless others has absolutly nothing to do with hippies and the seventies. You are an advocate for things you do not, or refuse to understand. We are all intitled to our opinions, and you should not call someone crazy just because their opinions differ from yours.

  • @apocalypsepirate Fools and their money are easilly parted (they can't spell either!)

So let me get this straight, Jews are responsible for the ills of the world? That prick Reagan? George W? Ryanair? The X factor? Sub prime? Do tell... This'll be sooooooo funny!

  • @hothaggis1 Fools and their money are easily parted? . Are you calling the people of our society fools? Is someone who makes a typing mistake a fool as well? Gee, what`s it like to be so perfect ?. Everyone at your school must really envy you. Now, Right from the get-go, you are closed to other peoples opinions. You are obviously so sure that you are totally right about the world, that you won`t listen to anyone else. Given that fact, he who does not listen, knows nothing

  • @apocalypsepirate what has this got to do with Hillage exactlY? You're obviously a derranged paranoid fool (necessary qualities for racists worldwide) I mean that Hitler, he had a theory about an international zionist conspiracy. Whatever happened to him?

  • @hothaggis1 It has nothing to do with Hillage, it has to do with the fact that apparently someone whose opinions differ from yours, is a fool [along with people who eat at Macdonalds, and make typing mistakes]. Like Hitler, you condemn anyone who does not think the way you do. Just because I do not praise the jewish community , doesn`t mean that I hate them or wish them gone.

  • @1957Aubrey You`re condemning a whole generation of people just because your sister hung with numb company. I knew lots of hippies that hang with my older brothers during the 70`s, they were civilized enough to wash. Your sister must have picked her friends at the zoo. There are just as many stunned puppies today out there a sin the seventies, or any other age for that matter.

  • @1957Aubrey

If you hate hippies so much then please tell us why did you check this particular video out? hmm! You my friend are bitter n twisted... maybe you should have a smoke to calm down or do you drink?. 70's were iconic so much good music came out at this time.

  • @MsSunnidays I still like good music.

  • i love the music from this band - have they done any instrumental stuff because he cant sing for shit!!

  • this "jesus" look is only the one most of young men had in the last years of the 70s :D ... no "jesus" there :)))) Gong was a HUGE wonderful band, with awesome musicians... daevid allen, steve hillage, bloombidoo bad de grass (never knew how it is supposed to be written), pierre moerlen (r.i.p) one the three best drummer ever.... and lots of ...

  • jesus played guitar?

  • i was born in 95, but one can see those were some weird, different times! :)

    LONG LIVE PROG ROCK!!!

  • rock me jesuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuss

  • stooooned

  • whos the drummer?

  • @eraserhead1969 Anybody you want? Check out the original Donovan version. Good luck

  • Seeing Jesus rock like this makes me wonder why Christian churchgoers are so conservatively dressed when filing into their places of worship. I'd just go in wearing a vintage Hillage tour shirt.

  • way ahead of his time.

  • Hillage is a legend very under rated Guitarist. ॐ

  • @MysticalGaurangaBand Best British guitarist ever

  • @MysticalGaurangaBand

    Absolutely, my opinion too. ॐ

  • @MysticalGaurangaBand A cover is always necessary. In concealment lies a great part of our strength. Hence we must always hide ourselves under the name of another society. --Die neusten ararbeiten des Spartacus and Philo in dem Illuminaten-Orden, 1794, p: 165

This is taken from page 491 of Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. 'Coincidentally' Umberto Eco has written the introduction to the newly printed version of Alexandre's The Count of Monte Christo.

  • Songs from my youth. Seen him play so many times over the years.

Saw him play in a barn on worthy farm the night before the festival started sometime in the late seventies.

Turned up on stage with Sham69 - reading78 too. :)

  • LYSERGIC!!!!

  • You simply cannot look at the guy and not think 'Jesus'. Cool tune.

  • MA SE LEGGIU!! STIZIA TI TIRIDI !!!!!

  • jesus?

  • @ridethetrolly yes!

  • seen him do this live with the Scottish National Orchestra amazing, (he was guesting doing tubular bells) can' remember the year, had a good chat with Steve and his good lady.

  • i love jesus guitar hero :D

  • Love the way the song disappears into orbit at the end, with steve looking around as if to see where it went. And then steve says "thank you er danke schoen..." priceless:-)

  • i think you fuckwits will find that the bloke wanking on the kb is in fact Miquette Giraudy.

  • Very good, glad to see he's ready for his judo lesson afterwards

  • Pure nostalgia... reminds me of who i used to be if i had hair i would grow it again :-)

  • Yes - donovan's version .great - but here is the crux- got more in it - more soul -and what a great reg. It hits me more than Donovan !- this has GOT IT ! ! of course all said with respect to the original ! =DEgus

  • Great playing! he´s got the late '60s Peter Green look! cool

  • Fantastic. This and 'It's All Too Much' brings back happy memories of the seventies.Apart from brilliant versions by Hillage, I was blown away at the time that he played these covers by two guys that deeply influenced my direction in life. Thanks Steve, Donovan and George.

P.S Liked the Rhuthun connection below!

  • I had this record (yes the big round things) when i was 15. this brings back great memories. always loved hillage and gong too.

  • Great Music. Reminds me of my youth

  • Dedico alle mie amiche e ai miei amici, fino a quando ci risentiamo, questo splendido pezzo che sicuramente a qualcuno ricorderà o evocherà bei momenti.

    Chitarra-liquida-Hillage.Ciao!

  • The guitar solo is mainlining straight from heaven... :-)))))))))))

  • Wow Steve Hillage!!! This is amazing....

  • Fantastic memories of the late 70's. Superb thanks for posting.

  • Just one of the greatest British guitarists ever.

  • Who's on the synth with Miquette?

  • sexy solo!

  • another shite belly button gazing prog rock cock sucking song

  • Buy the DVD. You get the CD as well. Steve, you're still up there with the greats!

  • Oh man, totally cool Hillage clip at his best! I had the best time meeting him and charming galpal Miquette at a Utopia concert in 1977. We got up in the VIP section and they were very cordial, 2 great and LOVELY people. Steve always played out his heart for the fans and was sort of overshadowed by other hot players, unfortunately. His message was of peace, it's sad that more people here could not relate to him and his music. It would be a better world for sure!

    Thanks for the post!

  • actually he looks more like graham chapman, greets the devil ( picks the real one out of any line up ) also there is no jesus

  • Devilsixx22: God saves Jesus: what planet are you from man? Jesus can't save squat, and certainly not on my friggin pension.

  • You just know this would of been played on Norfolk Nights!!

  • god saves jesus!

  • He does hit a bum note halfway through the first solo, but like people, it's the little imperfections that make you realise how loveable they are.

  • @hmsmagpie also shows he is playing live and not miming

  • Oh, the innocence of youth.

    These wonderous spirits never mimed.

    How can you mime life?

  • super...

  • crickey, I haven't heard this for about 48 years!

  • JESUS! The ultimate guitar hero. LOL! Just kidding. But I must say, he does play an impressive solo here.

  • my new love!!! so glad i found this

  • Steve Hillage - The original Electric Gypsy, a much under-rated guitar player. It was great to see him return to guitar playing, after years of keyboard electronica, in Cambridge on the Gong tour last November. Om Namah Shivaya Steve & Miquette.....far out

  • ROCK AND ROLL JESUS!!

  • I must smile when i see Jesus plays the solo :)

  • Jesus the Karate Kid?

  • nice guitar mi lord!

  • Geezzzz! Fucking awesome.

  • Jesus should use Fender not a Gibson :)

  • He's not Jesus, just a hippy from the Cambridge psychedelic- prog scene.

Similarly, Eric Clapton is not God. That's Hendrix.

  • @Drblooter99 Actually it is Clapton. If not Clapton, then Blackmore. If not Blackmore, then Santana, and if not Santana, then, and only then, will I concede that Hendrix is God.

  • @byakuganlord

How can it it be "if not clapton, then Blackmore is God etc? This is all nonsense. In another - jazz - musical universe, Wes Montgomery is God. If not, then it's Pat Metheny, if not it's Pat Martino, etc etc. All silly list making.

  • @byakuganlord Santana?

  • @Drblooter99

bollocks...... hillage all the way. and i love hendrix.... and clapton is my mother

  • Canterbury actually.

  • This concert was March, 20. 1977, filmed by the WDR "Rockpalast" in Otto-Hahn-Schule in Bensberg near by Köln/Cologne. I sat left of the stage on the floor.

  • did he not start the ambient house group Orbital somewhat later?

  • holy shit! Steve is a mofo on guitar. he seems like a great guy

  • Donovan :) what a rip off

  • @jetsonic69 Never heard of cover versions?

  • Excellent!!!

  • Saw him at the kursaal in southend, and with queen at the hyde park festival they headlined around 76

  • "Live Herald" is an album you should seek out if you are a fan of this type of music. Climb aboard with the master of the ufo guitar. Hmm, he does look a bit like Jesus.

  • Jesus plays a mean fucking guitar.

  • @Biggins363 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

  • @Biggins363 jesus was black, dude.

  • @Biggins363

    So you noticed.

I got a real kick out of your comment. Steve really went for the Jesus look back in those days, didn't he? And to think this was the time when Johnny Rotten and his flock were stomping about and spitting.

Well, decades later the joke is on the punks- hippie frozen in time Hillage still sounds great while punk songs just grate.

  • @Biggins363 yes he does, you would be amazed watching him live is a major treat.

  • @Biggins363 World's funniest youtube comment - made me lmao!

  • @Biggins363 Jesus alias Steve Hillage was a very underrated guitar player and is still making music today. Was tipped to be the stones guitarist after Jones but was not too good at busting up hotels with Richards.

  • @Biggins363

    RFOL

  • @Biggins363 Exactly what I thought when I started the video xD !!!

  • @Biggins363 jesus plays a mean everything lol

  • @Biggins363 You should hear him play 'Devil Went Down to Georgia."

  • Love him with Gong. Love him with the Orb and Sphynx. Love the S. Hillage solo work I've heard. But this seems really bland and empty. Even if he does rip it up at 5:48...

I mean, this was over 30 years ago, so I'm not faulting Steve. It's more like: why post a mediocre tune? Lack of better footage?

  • I agree, this is a little twee, but Steve Hillage was a true 'New Age' pioneer.

He made some good psychedelic albums.

He was laughed at by the punks in '77 though.

I liked him AND The Sex Pistols.

  • LOVE'EM! :D

  • Loved him back in the day. I probably have an album of his in the loft somewhere, God in a Wooly Hat.

  • Mr. Hillage is a fantastic musician!

  • The same could be said about poeple who call themselves Mitch Tenderness, I mean You dont seem that tender or loving from what I see Mitch Tenderness Hmm,, where's the tenderness for what in all intents and purposes seems as peacefull and altruistic as the Hippy Movement,Hmm answer that Mitch Tenderness lets see how Tender you really are.

  • To each his own, live and let live, don't label me, these are the types of attitudes "hippies" claim to profess but the minute I write a response to somebody saying that hippies are inherently better than other people citing my own personal experience I get somebody aggressively calling me out because I don't fall in line with their feelings on the issue. It's all love and understanding until someone disagrees with you.

  • And by the way Tenderness is my last name and an Americanized version of the Irish O'Tindeness which was changed when my great great grandpa came to the US. And unless your screen name is your actual name "Limiting" is quite the appropriate moniker

  • Is the drummer Clive Bunker? Steve is a fucking beast. underated guitar player.

  • i was at deeply vale so long ago in a tepee!

  • @posh1961 me too and Ruthin free festival ;)

  • hurdy gurdy hurdy gurdy singing songs of mirth

  • lol are u kidding me chek out 2:57 intense drums break down then he shreds a fyuckin sick solo you wrong toxic u should except this cover as a good thing.

  • go listen to hip hop , yo dig that rap stuff I bet

get some taste , you have no right listening to great hippy music

  • rap sucks same with hip hop an rnb.

Steve Hillage, Hawkwind, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Ozric Tentacles, etc. are way better than lame hip hop

  • all rap, hip hop an rnb does is talk fast an repeat, repeat, and repeat.

  • look from the other side....

song is beatuful..just like he tryes to represent her here...

  • hippies rule an are way better than dorky pretty boys, jokes or preps, etc.

  • hippies, at least from my experience, are people who talk about love, peace, and unity outwardly but deep down are only worried about they're own personal gratification...regarless of how it affects others around them, the core of the hippy movement is sex and drugs.

  • well to be honest I only knew hippies exist because I heard bout em an my parents kind of told me bout the time they grew up but their werent hippies emselfs but anyway I like the long hair that the hippies had because I saw pictures an the band called the Beatles were considered as hippie music too an the lonely peppers album with lucy in sky with diamonds, etc. were the album on some talk show said was really based on hippies stuff.

  • an were you a hippie back then? How old arte you anyway, I'm 30 whcih I wasn't around when the hippies were their but anyway I discover Steve Hillage, Gong and Hawkwink because other OZRIC TENTACLES fans told me bout em an I heard of em too so thats how I knew bout em, their some of hillage, gong an hawkwind music does sound a little like ozric's.

  • j'ai vu la chance de voir steve hillage au Palais d'Hiver à Lyon qui a été détruit depuis

    concert mémorable

  • saw them with gong in amsterdam

hillage usualy goes with an euphoric laugh spreading till way beyond of his ears

  • Saw them at the CowPalace. They opened for ELOs dubbing scandal

    tour.

  • telemacherT2,

Wasn't Hillage booed off the stage at the Cow Palace?

I wasn't there but I heard the above and felt it cruel and lame he wasn't given a chance.

In 1977 or so Hillage gave an interview for a British magazine in which he pretty much describes to a 'T' his current musical career when asked about his plans for the future. He didn't refer to it as Trance or anything but he spoke of craziness like computer generated electro-music presented in a communal setting.luv&light&lulz.

    NG.

  • NG,

Don't remember. I was up in the nose- bleed seats feeling no pain. ELO fans were rather pathetic. Left early

  • The keyboard player is wanking at 0.40

  • @jazzwing HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! He IS wanking!

  • @MultiPeacedog She.

  • Amazing lp in its original form, w/ Todd Rundgren at the board and the rest of Utopia as the band...Cosmic, dude!

  • far out!

  • he's amazing in Kahn space shanty

  • ...L...

  • sweet lord he is so drugged up

  • Jesus with a casio watch

  • where did Joe Blocker go...

  • jesus :]

  • Hey, that's cool. Looks as if Jesus plays guitar and sings..*g*
