I was in tears just watching the last min or two (about the makeshift shrines) so I can't imagine - and therefore admire - the strength a person must have to continue [the work of] investigating amidst such heart wreching scenes of human tragedy.
Regardles of which, or from which country the ACI teams originate: Hero's all.
ACI was a Canadian Production called Mayday in Canada; ACI in Australia/UK; Air Emergency in USA; etc... with changes in narrator depending on the market. (In 2003 /Cdn-US Eng/ UK Eng/ French/ & Dutch)... It is commonly aired on Discovery Channel in Canada & Nat' Geo since 2003. Blackbox is a 1996 production released on cd in 1998..Darlow Smithson productions of UK... has other "awesome" movies...
Its hard to believe that a big crack by the doorway of an aircraft wouldnt be noticed by the flight crew, cabin crew or maintenance workers. I mean they enter and exit the aircraft that way and if a passenger noticed it why didnt they?
Good question but I'm sure we see things from time to time and feel we should speak up but don't because we feel foolish or don't want to make a scene. Yes this could have been a huge disaster and the pilots did a great job landing it safely.
Yes but you'd think the flight crew or even the maintenance guys would spot that big crack as it was right next to the door. I'm sure they saw it but never said anything about it ..
This was a sombre, superbly produced series that shows the power of good narration and shelling out for real footage over relying on reconstructions. I had most of the series on VHS tape but lost them so it's great to see it again!
Absolutely, well said. The narration was excellent for this series, and it was so refreshing to not be bombarded by cheesy graphics and glossy CGI all the time!
ACI was exciting only because of its special effects and over-dramatisation. That's the main difference between US and UK drama. Take a look at the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs, with its superb narration and production, and then see what the US did to it. "THIS IS ANKYLOSAURUS! IT COULD CRUSH SKULLS WITH ITS HUGE CLUB TAIL!" Ugh.
@kcy29581 It doesn't make any difference which air disaster series is better or worse. I think all of them are great and interesting and very informative. They all just have different methods of explaining each of them, but they still discuss the same topic that has to do with them without changing the format of the stories.
@kcy29581 ACI is made in Canada. ;) But you sure do have a good point there. I think BB is more ominous and dramatic while in ACI you get a better understanding for aircraft disasters thanks to the computer generated imagery. I love'em both!
I taped this series about 11 years ago. I don't think it was called Black Box over here in the states. In fact, there was a different narrator (Will Lyman). Nevertheless, this was one hell of a series!! Thanks for the upload!!
you need to shop elsewhere for your screws dude

Keep in mind that there was only 1 passenger out of 100+ that spotted it.

@kcy29581 I have to agree, even being a US citizen. I'd rather watch the UK versions!!!!!

@kcy29581 ACI is a Canadian Production - just so you know... course it sometimes seems like Canada is kind of like the 52nd state (:-)

is not a subtittle mistake at 5:50? it should to be "declearing emergency" not "degree of emergency"!!
gio31brasil 3 years ago
it wasn't a mistake as far as i could tell, ATC was asking to confirm the degree, or severity, of the emergency
skiman645 3 years ago
Yep! I agree, it is degree.
