I just keep watching this scene over and over. It's EPIC. Sam was phenomenal in this scene. The moment when he looks at Dean shortly before going to kill Madison is too heart-breaking for words. His expression hits me right in the gut. And Dean's no slacker in the scene, either. The way he flinched when the gunshot sounded was so amazing and SO telling. He didn't even need to say a word 'cause that tiny gesture told us all exactly what he was thinking about. And the lone tear falling? Amazing.

So I just literally got finish watching this episode on dvd. I came here looking for this episode, because I knew there were people feeling like me about the ending scene. Sam's so distraught. The first girl he had feelings for since Jessica and now he has to kill her and Dean, not being able to take the pain for him, add in the music this scene is awesome. It shows the first time Dean has been helpless and shows the moment when Sam truly grew up. That one tear from Jensen is magic! Love it.

This is so sad :( Poor Sam... Jared and Jensen are both so good in this scene though. I read somewhere it wasn't in the script that Dean was going to cry, but Jensen really felt for Jared when he saw how upset he was, so his tear fell automatically. If that's true, it's so sweet :)

Aw yup I heard that too. I read that apparently Jared was thinking of how he would feel if he had to put down his dogs and that's where his tears came from, and then Jensen was feeling bad for him watching him during the scene so he let the little manly tear slip on accident. ;P

what you dont see is how long sam and dean stay somewhere on a job. they dont show up and magically get the answer. im guessing for this one they stayed with her for about a month, looking into what might be happening, stalking the boyfriend, finding him, learning that she's a werewolf... it takes time so yeah, if he starts to really like her then there should be a lot of crying

@Nadiawizaard I know this was written 10 months ago, but I just had to comment. I'll reiterate what the above poster stated. Sam and Dean don't just show up on a job and magically find the answer within a day. Sometimes they end up there for weeks/months on end. When it comes to Madison, Sam had finally began to allow himself to feel something for a girl since Jess. He was probably with Madison for a lot longer than you think. They can only fit so much into one episode.

I cry too...every flippin' time! Here I go again!!! Both Jensen and Jared's acting justs get better and better, my other fav emotional scene is Season 4 Episode 10 - Heaven and Hell. The ending is so heart-wrenching and Jensen is absolutely incredible.
