Oh man, Breath of Fire IV. Fou-Lu might be one of the greatest tragic villains in video game history. This game's pretty cool too, haha.

Love the game, haven't played it in ages so I'm looking forward to watching this LP, but one thing stood out to me in this first episode.

Ryu clearly has a sister and I don't remember for the life of me what happens with her the rest of the game. Maybe it explains itself.... maybe the whole town-amnesia "thing" has something to do with it, but I feel like there's a lot of doors they coulda taken with that one.

I really loved it's sequel, Breath of Fire III as well. :D

This game was pretty challenging, but the characters were endearing. :D

I also must say that you have a voice that's easy to listen to. A lot of LPers aren't able to pull that off, unfortunately.

Anyway, good to see someone giving kudos to some old SNES titles. I intend to play some of the old classics too. Currently doing Lufia II.

Also, Ryu means Dragon in Japanese. :D

I find it interesting that you and I share the same preferences within this series. It's actually a breakdown I see quite often, either people prefer two and four, or they crow over three.

Breath of Fire, the original, is one of my favorite games to this day.

It's not so much a coincidence as far as name goes, as it is what the name means. Ryu is Japanese for dragon, if I remember my Japanese correctly.

This game almost had me in tears towards the end, SUCH a GOOD game!!

I have no idea about any Breath of Fire's after 2, but the Nina from 1 is Nina's ancestor in 2. I can't remember the time difference, but it's because of her that 2's Nina has black wings.

I downloaded for Wii VC and played it for many hours, but ended up deleting it after becoming very angry. It is often unclear what to do next. I had to look at the guide on my computer all the time just to play it. Random battles are unavoidable. Text and character movement are too slow. This game plays like a play for free MMORPG: endless and boring grinding just to progress in the game. I got very far (highfort) and there is no storyline to the game.

hell yeah it was. this was one of the FEW games that I could play for 5+ hours straight. every weekend for a while, my parents would take me to blockbuster and I would rent this, and play the shit out of it. I remember once when some prick deleted my game, so i had to buy it.

I'm guessing they chose 4 letter names because it was a common limit in 8/16-bit Japanese RPGs, where it was probably enough to store most Japanese names (4 Japanese characters was roughly the equivalent of 8 English characters).

well, I never went through with FF 1 or 2.

But FF6 (which was FF3 for the SNES) was epic and worth playing.

FF6 >>> BoF2 imo. I've been playing BoF2 for the first time on my emulator since last week and there's plenty of flaws in it.

I fucking hate having to go back and forth from Township to Simafort and West Cape.

I also hate the story somehow - I mean, come on - a fucking monkey just decides to come along with you? A half-brained frog that sucks at fighting? WTF.

The Dragon Tear gauges emotion and is only important when your comrades are talking. A higher colored tear means they trust you more (it gets raised naturally they more fights the party is in). Only the friendliest party members can use the powerful Missile spell.
