Great question. I'm no expert, but I understand it this way. Read Galatians 5:16-25. Paul's discussion contrasts living by the flesh or living by the spirit. He lists some of the behaviors and attitudes we show when we live the way we want - by the flesh - and then lists the fruit of the spirit which are the behaviors and attitudes we display when we are following the spirit's leading, not our own. When we let our flesh lead - negative fruit. When we let the spirit lead - good fruit.

so the holy spirit gives us the fruits or do we produce the fruits? or maybe we produce the fruit of self control when we don't give in to temptation?
