  • thanks for uploading the interview

  • Now I understand why he told me that this book was about his mother...

  • @projectsinexile Edward Said told you?

  • @saquibaa :Yes, the year he died, we had at Columbia University a symposium about his work. I had been his student for many years. During lunch I told him that I was reading his autobiography and that it was helping me to be a better mother to my son. He answered, 'You know what'? That book is about my relationship with my mother' Of course, the book is about many topics, but this is what he said to me, perhaps to make me feel good...

  • @projectsinexile I feel very lucky to be interacting - even though superficially - with someone so close to Said. This great man is one of my heroes in life. He teaches me to be restless and outraged and to take injustice in the world very personally. And that there can be no rest whatsoever in the fight against corruption, persecution and apathy.

Anyway, thanks for your response. You are kind.

  • @saquibaa I was thinking about Said. It came up in a conversation: I was telling a friend that years ago my husband who is Jewish (this fact is important in this context) did an illustration for The New York Times for a review of Said's 'The Palestinian Question' The illustration was sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. The paper censored the illustration of my husband. I was enraged because it was self censorship, they did not want to loose customers and sponsors!

  • saquibaa, PS My husband is not the only Jew in the world who thinks the Palestinian people should have a homeland!
