you might enjoy the book 'the master switch' by Tim Wu. He explains how all new media started really free and were all brought under control eventually. He think it will happen for the internet as well. Has some stories that give you a nice feeling of how free it once was to start a radio station.

Scratch that, I forgot to dividee to 8 to convert bits to bytes. about 700 MB's per day.
