This took about 4 days of doing just this. It was a final project for a 3DS Max class I was taking and I waited as long as possible, and then I did more than I should have. The animation is actually all run on lines with the ships attached, so it took less time than you'd think it would.
Would you please explain(or make a video) how to make this kinda cartoonish look in 3ds max?

Yep. It uses the particle stream effect in Max with the particles set to always face forwards. The shots were done the same way.
