  • I dont really like this son, but i like Daedalus, that is the nick who i used many times. :) Va pupa dae.

  • heard this in english learning about daedalus and icarus imediately loved it

  • Has anyone ever thought that this song could be about how God gave Jesus to die on the cross. Then he's angry at us as humans for crucifying him. Like we are the gods, he is talking about in the song. Because in a way we all think we are gods and have all the power to make descisions, but more often then not we make all the wrong ones... and destroy what is good and pure in the world. Something to think about.

  • @AturkeyFrog Nah, it's actually about the legend of Daedalus. The Melting Point of Wax from Artist in the Ambulance is about it as well lol.

  • Such raw emotion from Dustin, if Thrice were to make another Alchemy Index like album I think I would die of excitement.

  • @Realrpg I wish they would too! regrettably theyve broken up/hiatus for the foreseeable future :(

  • @CireNappat

Woah man Thrice has already stressed enough that they're not breaking up , to be fair they put of albums extremely fast than most bands and are constantly touring, not to mention they have a family to attend to. So lets keep our heads up :)

  • When he starts cursing the gods at 4:08 I get so many chills.

  • this song is like sex for my ears

  • cant even begin to describe how much i LOVE this song

  • The word's and flow of this song paint the picture of Icarus and his father so perfectly in the mind...well done thrice.

  • this song is so deep, i love it

  • I'm probably overthinking it, but at 3:44 the way the lead guitar rises, stops, falls a little, and then sinks makes me think of Icarus flying toward the Sun and falling into the sea every single time I hear it. I can't get the thought out of my head.

  • listening to this song is devastating after hearing Icarus's willingness to "find out what impossible means" in melting point of wax

  • I have finally come to terms that nothing Thrice could do well ever quite match up to the greatness that is the Alchemy Index. The way the album flows like 4 albums and the themes of it are so great without losing substance.

  • The song isn't bad. I like it. But why was it in the related videos for Thunder Bolts Megaghost? lol

  • fucking 240p sounds awful

awesome song though, and I mean awesome in the literal sense of the word, not just "really cool"

  • To further the connection between this and Melting Point of Wax...the latter is written from Icarus' point of view, speaking to his father. Daedalus is reversed. If I'm not mistaken, Dustin became a father some time between writing those two songs. Very cool change of perspective, both on a musical and a personal level, and two excellent songs to boot.

  • favorite song on the album

  • I like this album more every time i listen to it definitely one of my favorite albums like ever

  • Damn it, I was looking for the band Daedalus.

  • @TeknophagistMusic "thrice" by daedalus? lol

  • @TeknophagistMusic you came up on something better

  • BUT I'VE GOT A PLAN AND SOME WAX AND SOME STRING

  • Comment removed

  • wow! such nice music!!! =0 love it

  • not to mention Daed - e -lus

  • the emotion in the end seems so real

  • @calirapqueen trolls will be trollin

  • Song is just plain brilliant imo. Completely captures the perspective of Daedalus and I just love how there is a sliver of hope in the beginning and than the despair and anxiety slowly builds through the song until it turns in to total anguish when Icarus falls into the sea. Both the lyrics and music to it convey it so perfectly.

  • @Jikkle

yeah i completely agree with you the song is composed perfectly i listen to it over and over again like a mental patient

  • I'm building my wings strong enough to fly straight into the sun.

  • @EratoSt Me too meng, Maybe I'll see you in the shallows soon then! :D

  • Personally, I like The Melting Point of Wax better, but its cool that when I listen to it now, I see it as the situation through the perspective of the son, and this song as the father. I think its just the coolest thing ever

  • This song is so good. This is just... oh my.

  • Such a perfect ways to see the history, and how it changed dustin to have a kid

  • I love the different perspectives of the two songs. Melting point of wax is from the perspective of Icarus and his "leap of faith", while here we can see the perspective of his father and the pain of losing his son.

  • if this story applied to me, it would have consisted of me not even being acknowledged; because i left the cliff a long time ago...no coexsistense could have ever exsisted, not between me and another living organism

  • Does anyone know if this is Davide Merletto's band?

  • I hate most modern alt rock nowadays, but this still the best thing I've ever heard of the last two years. It's so fucking beautiful and I almost feel like weeping every time I listen to this. This is what emotion is, not fucking TBS or Dashboard.

  • who the hell disliked this, and why??

  • @OMFGallusernamesgone cuz justin bever found thisnow all her nitwit fallowers are coming

  • @OMFGallusernamesgone I think I disliked it because I disliked it, but it's just, you know, an opinion

  • those are some fucking amazing lyrics and chords. this song/band is criminally underrated

  • dustin would make an excellent and loving father

  • @hyperdemented I wish he was my father,

  • Im soooo glad you guys are arguing like it matters.

just listen to the music, ya fuckin ego-naughts ≤3

  • GAH! i tried to push like but my mouse literally just POOFED over to dislike. f**k my mouse!

  • Simply put Thrice contains lyrical content and musical rthym & style in many of their songs that far supercedes any 'mainstream' songs of the same year and thus have much more weight and appeal to those that truly can comprehend it's meaning.

Melting point of wax, and Daedalus are two great examples both are about the Greek myth and contain lyrical content that pulls on different emotions that create different experiences for the audio connoisseur (Yeah I'm audiophile get over it)

  • @devilkit13 no offense, but you're also vaguely pretentious.

  • @CaSCHWANK

Aren't we all when it comes to anything we are passionate about?

  • @devilkit13 not really, man. It isn't passion that makes you condescend others. When you talk about how you are one of the few people who can 'comprehend' some deeper meaning because you're some kind of 'connoisseur', that's just being pretentious.

Being passionate is all about enthusing about the wonderful feeling the music gives you and trying to share the experience, not saying that you are one of the few wise enough to feel it.

  • @CaSCHWANK well then maybe next time I should dull my words so they have much less content so I don't come off as sounding pretentious then, because that was never the intent.

So reiterating. Thrice just kicks ass

Not pretentious but also too shallow to truly convey how much I like them.

  • @devilkit13 lol... whatever, dude. I'm not going to argue with you there. They do kick quite a lot of ass. Just quit acting like you're better than everyone else because you think so, too. Please.

Also, I'm realizing now I sounded like a total dick... it's just that a holier-than-thou attitude is the ONE thing that pisses me off the most.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go calm my nerd rage.

  • @CaSCHWANK

    =3

  • @CaSCHWANK Umad? Why are you getting really intense about this guy liking Thrice? Also you put the words "one of the few" in his mouth... He never claimed he is of some elite team of super humans that can decipher beautiful music's meaning... He said he can comprehend it so it is more rewarding to listen to...

    Good fight.

  • @jatotsusuken uhh... everytbody's moved on, man... perhaps you could have done to read to the end of the conversation lol

ps. i just made rice crispy squares out of captain crunch with berries, and it was pretty much the best decision I've made all day.

    ...just saiyan.

  • Hey! Quick fact for the day, the word "faggot"actually is what a bundle of sticks used to be called. So to use it as an insult is basically calling someone a bundle of sticks, which is honestly more funny than offensive. So maybe next time you should think of a better insult than "bundle of sticks".

  • @starchild93 it was a bundle of sticks that they used to burn homosexual people with in old european times

  • captivated in the first 45 seconds of the song. Thrice is amazing

  • Warning: disliking may cause death :)

  • simply beautiful

  • gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Jeesh I just love their music. this song made me cry.

  • wow, k not what i was looking for at all. oh and judging by the comments left on this page not a single one of you doesn't tenaciously suck cock (seriously whats with all the touchy feely comments) oh and im probly not going to respond to any of your replies to this comment unless they are reaaaaally insulting or stupid, then i might just come back to call you a fag again.

  • @Cptheadstomp420 hah if they are insulting? dude i think you just insulted yourself by even saying this band sux, what do you listen to? Death core bands that sound like they are choking on dick the whole time? or just rap which talks about bitches and hoes that clealy you cant get haha go kill yourself and ask why your mom forgot to have an abortion buddy, that insulting enough?

  • @xiknivesix did you even read my comment? i said it wasnt what i was looking for and i insulted the people leaving behind there gay little comments like carokicksass. anyways if you even looked at my channel you'd find out i happen to like a lot of different music none of it like the shit you described when did i ever say the band was insulting or that they were bad? you are retarded and not insulting at all by the way... way to go laughing at your own "insults".... in text (thats fucking sad)

  • @Cptheadstomp420 stuuuuupid

  • @xiknivesix close miiiiiinded!

  • @Cptheadstomp420 lmao people say what they feel and you call them fags? cool....?

  • @Negronigganigga i also call people that reply to month old comments fags. congrats fag

  • I nearly cried listening to this.

  • I love listening to the Melting Point of Wax then this song to hear their development not only as a band, but as people too.

  • sooooo goood

  • I got chills when Dustin was singing the last "Oh gods" part. It's such an amazing song.

  • @LittleShyell Every. Single. Time. It's amazing.

  • :'(

  • Some of the things Thrice writes just leave me feeling like I've been hit by a fucking truck...

    In a good way?

  • Thrice is absolutely amazing. You can't even compare it to today's music. All of their albums, hell, all of their songs, have different styles. This and Broken Lungs are my two favorite on this album.

Now, as for this song... it starts off on an almost happy note, the chance to be free. But then, as has been pointed out, it quickly spirals down into a song of mourning. That's just my two cents.

  • god i love this story

  • This song is so beautiful. It makes me want to have a son someday and raise him to be a good man.

  • Like how it's so easy to play on the piano. I'll try that. Cool song.

  • Songs are songs, music is music, taste is taste.

  • crappy kbit rate is crappy!!!!

  • Probably worth it to mention that this isn't the only song that refers to the story of Icarus & Daedalus. The Melting Point of Wax also refers to this.

  • @gerard6654 Probably because of the philosophical value behind the story

  • Comment removed

  • @SalSayWut The Melting Point of Wax is a Thrice song. Based on that, I'd say most of the people watching this video care.

  • This song is so fun to play on guitar! Probably one of the best songs ever written.

  • You have few years to go if you think this is one of the best songs ever written.

  • @RazielCuts you cant tell him that, good music is a matter of opinion.

  • I'm sure you have all seen that "Led Zep" Hoodie/Shirt with a guy on it with these feather wings falling apart. Its Icarus of course! ( I know this is obvious, but its a great picture)

  • this song gave me goosebumps.

  • The music and lyrics in this song paint a strikingly sad picture. If I close my eyes @ 2:40 ,I can see Icarus lose altitude and finally plunge into the sea. I swear, the final chord in that sequence, sounds just like a splash to me.

  • Agreed

  • @jhake8369 Yes, Hearing the chords down step paints the still pictures of a fall in my mind.

  • @jhake8369 Very interesting, I never noticed that before. I love the artistry this band puts into their recordings. Such a sad song!

  • @jhake8369 you're comment gave me chills..lol

  • ok that's too good for words ...both music and lyrics

  • Cool:D

My Character in every RPG is called Daedalus

  • Daedalus was put in the labyrinth by Minos, which was on an island. Daedalus made wings out of wax and feathers for him and his son, Icarus, to fly away from there. During the flight, Daedalus gets distracted and falls asleep while Icarus climbs higher towards the sun, melting his wings.

  • Very beautiful song!! Isn't Daedalus a Greek character? :0 I think this is based off the painting ^^

  • I think that was Pandora :3

  • Listen to 'The melting point of wax' by Thrice before this song... perfect :)

  • is his sun realy dround dead

  • i have the flu and think im dying but this song makes me feel better hahah

  • sad song somehow. but i like it very much.

  • The part starting around 3:32 is godly.

  • Comment removed

  • this is beautiful

  • this songs about a greek mythology

  • Man everyone needs to calm down...Thrice is amazing.........I like them for their lyrics and the band as well...........they just have verses in their songs and I still blast em in my car ;)

  • @devostm: Doesn't owning an album make you appreciate it more? That's how it is with me.

  • awesome song =)

  • I bought both sets right when they came out. Definitely not a disappointment.

(there's definitely something special about owning an album, even after you torrent it)

  • This album was beautiful, and so is Beggars, the most under-rated band I know.

  • I totally agree with you man, imo they are one of the best band out there..

  • same here but i like it because if htey get big who knows they might sell out like metallica or any big noticed artist u digg???

  • Dunno, Thrice has always been pretty true to who they are. Their popularity is still really large, especially compared to early on. I don't think they're as focused on record sales as they are making music from the heart. And that's what makes them so amazing.

  • Also you guys should stop overreacting. As long as you have your faith one doesn't need to worry about things like "myths". Just stay faithful to GOD and none other and you'll be alright.

  • And what happens if you're wrong about which god it was you were supposed to stay faithful to?

  • TRUE! LOVE MUSIC!

  • I can't stand it when people argue about music. It's beautiful, that's all there's to say. Appreciate it.

  • @JonnyWag well music like this is beautiful ,but their and tons of music that are nothing but meaningless crap they dont mean anything to anybody except money

  • I think I'm being safe in saying that if the4realeddie is being serious in all of his comments, he either doesn't have any, or won't make any new friends.

You need to relax man - you say you're Christian, then show it

    James 1:19-20

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires

  • This song sadly is heard by people who hardly understand it has nothing to do with religion...

  • Everyone chill. It's a song about a Greek myth. The Greeks believed in multiple Gods. I find it extremely artistic that Dustin takes a modern phrase, "Oh, God!", and changed it to "Oh, Gods!", because that's what Daedalus would have said. It's not anti Christian, Thrice doesn't believe in multiple Gods, and if you're making those arguments, frankly, you're an idiot. It's a beautiful song with beautifully artistic lyrics. Open your eyes (and ears), and remove your head from your ass.

  • Thank you, finally someone who freakin understands, now look at the comment sent as a reply to me from joshuaspolar, and tell how not to get the urge of going on a rampage please? :|

  • Honestly, I think you are getting a little too worked up, but yes: I agree that, that comment is frustrating. I don't understand how this thread got so mussed up. While some of the comments about there being Christian undertones in Thrices lyrics is valid, it is not the case here. It's Greek mythology, NOT Christianity.

  • hey i commented on 4realeddie already - I guess I read some of the comments in the wrong order and I misunderstood what was going on. I take back my comment!

I know this song is not at all about Christianity - In my defense I wasn't even saying that in my original comment...

but this "realeddie" guy....he's completely smearing the name of Christianity - we are not supposed and DO not react the way he is!

  • I think everyone's overreacting. The fact of the matter is that it's a beautiful song with artistic lyrics.

  • Favorite song ever (seriously). I love how Dustin really sounds like this happened to him and not Daedalus/Icarus. Beautiful

  • Thrice is amazing, Truly.

  • Just stumbled across this stuff.

Nice, liking it. whatever you guys are going on about, i'm just enjoying the music, no other debate from me. Don't know anything else about this group, but i know i like their sound, they're cool. I'm a 47 yr old woman, so if anyone has a problem with that, are they really enjoying the music?

  • one of my favorites.

  • hey 4realeddie, what do you consider being christian, cause how you act in your writing shows me and probably others the wrong view that christians are portrayed. all you have shown as a christian is that there self righteous biggots, that are supior to everyone. if thats how your going to be dont call yourself a christian, dont tarnish the name.

  • thanks for understanding how i do.

  • i agree. I currently go to a private christian school (and ironically play in the [chapel praise and regular/marching] band under director named eddie xD) and am agnostic. what drove me away more than anything was people claiming to be for god then not knowing the first thing about being religious. =/ there ARE people out there, dont get me wrong, but they grow fewer and fewer every day, or so it seems...

  • why do what other people do and say, how they act, cause you to change what YOU believe? what does the hypocrisy of others have to do with what YOU think is REALITY?

note 1: capitals for emphasis, not yelling

note 2: serious question. its something i'm legitimately curious about, cuz you aren't the first person i've heard that from. trying to understand, not criticize.

  • What the heck does any of this have to do with Daedalus? lol

  • i'm out there

    ; ]

  • damn people, music is music, religion is religion, stop arguing dammit, just enjoy thrice's music

  • thank you

  • People here talk about religion when they don't even know who Icarus and what his story is....People really are stupid these days..Read something else than the bible for a change...

  • well Dustin being a a talented song writer and hes well known for having lots of metaphors in his lyrics and he is a christian so he obviously incorperates biblical stuff into his lyrics. Maybe there is christian relevance in these lyrics, just have to study them a bit more.

  • So if somebody is talented and is a freakin christian (I am a christian also) it means that all he does has to do with religion???Who the hell is brainwashing you people, are you so afraid of death that all you do is "believe" and never see the real truth? I pity you fools....

  • no i didnt say everything he does has to do with christianity, but most of dustins lyrics from the alchemy index are metaphors that have to do with his faith. Thats why so many people who understand the bible see more in his music that most other people who dont.

And were not brainwashed, im not scared of death, dont know where you came up with that. So what is the real truth then mr christian?

  • Hahaha, not only are you guys brainwashed, but you are also hypocrits, this conversation is over for there is no ending when talking to somebody who believes that supernatural forces are watching all the time...

  • your the hypocrit, you claimed you were a christian. I asked you some questions which you werent able to answer so all you do is call me brainwashed.

  • Your question has no relevance you inferior being, you believe because you are scared to face the real truth, so hide behind the greatest fictional story ever...pathetic, I pity you people. And I am a christian,, it doesn't mean I didn't start seeing the truth with the passing of time ;).

  • Ok i asked you a very relevant question, what do you beleive is the real truth!? What am i hiding behind? Nothing. I was stating taht Dustin writes whats in his heart and because hes a christian there are christian references and metaphors in his music. Being christian means you beleive in God and you make it seem like Hes not the truth and yet all you do is try to make me less of a person while still not answering these questions you build yourself on.

  • the Bible is the foundation of Christianity

you shouldn't need to read anything else to get a better understanding of God (or religions about God)

and neither Icarus NOR Daedalus have a major determining part in Christianity - notice it's called "Christianity," not Icarusness or Daedalusy or something

  • YOUR REPLY is so STUPID that I ask myself if you have a proper functioning brain, you religious incompetent monkey, think for yourself for a change you worthless being, and don't destroy this beautiful song just because you are retarded,Hitler where are you to get rid of all the inferiors...

  • woah buddy relax

i guess I read all these comments out of order, cuz I thought you were saying that Christianity is more than just the Bible.

    honest mistake

but I don't see how you can honestly think you're even CLOSE to being a Christian with the way you talk.

you're not getting into heaven like that man...maybe you should be reading the Bible a little more and not worry so much about these Greek mythologies

  • The Bible won't take your IQ, or general knowledge anywhere son, so open your eyes, and before telling me I ain't going to heaven consider that you are wasting your actual life by not knowing shit...Don't be a pussy, and don't hide your insecurities and fears in the Bible ;), you'll have a big letdown when you find out you're more alone than you thought, and besides all,you don't even know anything about your actual, and unique existence, that is here on Earth.

  • who the heck is giving you thumbs up?

you sound like a hormonal mentally challenged sociopath

  • The only difference is that you really are one..you don't deserve to listen to this great band that you clearly don't understand...

  • oh man, you have a point there.

If the people listening to this band are on the same level of intelligence as you, clearly I don't belong...because I'm not retarded

You don't know what you're talking about kid. You clearly still don't understand the confusion I had when I wrote my first comment- I hadn't read the comments correctly; no this song is not about Christianity.

Stop trying to act tough on the internet just because in real life you're annoying and insecure

  • Annoying and insecure? Is that the best you can come up with? Dude you clearly don't belong, among human beings that is... assuming such things without even knowing me makes you inferior from many points of view my disturbed friend, and trying to cover up your mistakes with "didn't correctly read your previous posts" is pathetic.

  • okay so correct me if im wrong but.. whether they're christian or not (which is obvious that they are) they dont sing stuff like most christian-bands that essentially say "yay god, jesus saved me" they just put their faith as part of their BACKGROUNDS, not their MESSAGES. k? =) so it doesnt matter if theyre christian or not, just enjoy the music.

  • well, there is image of the invisible, but thats the only song i know of. im kinda new to thrice, sorry.

  • I love this song

    it always make's me cry

that how great this song truly is

    :)-Thrice is awesome :)-

  • dont argue about the music and religion....

listen to the music and enjoy it for what it is.

  • @thc716blazed you can come to a deeper understanding and enjoyment of music by discussing the religious factors (not arguing of course)
